2Climate and litter C/N ratio constrain soil organic carbon accumulation显示文摘Soil organic carbon(SOC) plays critical roles in stabilizing atmospheric CO2 concentration, but the mechanistic controls on the amount and distribution of SOC on global scales are not well understood. In turn, this has hampered the ability to model global C budgets and to find measures to mitigate climate change. Here, based on the data from a large field survey campaign with 2600 plots across China’s forest ecosystems and a global collection of published data from forested land, we find that a low litter carbon-to-nitrogen ratio(C/N) and high wetness index(P/PET, precipitation-to-potentialevapotranspiration ratio) are the two factors that promote SOC accumulation, with only minor contributions of litter quantity and soil texture. The field survey data demonstrated that high plant diversity decreased litter C/N and thus indirectly promoted SOC accumulation by increasing the litter quality. We conclude that any changes in plant-community composition, plant-species richness and environmental factors that can reduce the litter C/N ratio, or climatic changes that increase wetness index, may promote SOC accumulation. 3Insight-HXMT observations of the first binary neutron star merger GW170817显示文摘Finding the electromagnetic(EM) counterpart of binary compact star merger, especially the binary neutron star(BNS) merger,is critically important for gravitational wave(GW) astronomy, cosmology and fundamental physics. On Aug. 17, 2017,Advanced LIGO and Fermi/GBM independently triggered the first BNS merger, GW170817, and its high energy EM counterpart,GRB 170817 A, respectively, resulting in a global observation campaign covering gamma-ray, X-ray, UV, optical, IR, radio as well as neutrinos. The High Energy X-ray telescope(HE) onboard Insight-HXMT(Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope) is the unique high-energy gamma-ray telescope that monitored the entire GW localization area and especially the optical counterpart(SSS17 a/AT2017 gfo) with very large collection area(~1000 cm^2) and microsecond time resolution in 0.2-5 MeV. In addition,Insight-HXMT quickly implemented a Target of Opportunity(ToO) observation to scan the GW localization area for potential X-ray emission from the GW source. Although Insight-HXMT did not detect any significant high energy(0.2-5 MeV) radiation from GW170817, its observation helped to confirm the unexpected weak and soft nature of GRB 170817 A. Meanwhile,Insight-HXMT/HE provides one of the most stringent constraints(~10^(-7) to 10^(-6) erg/cm^2/s) for both GRB170817 A and any other possible precursor or extended emissions in 0.2-5 MeV, which help us to better understand the properties of EM radiation from this BNS merger. 4The enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP显示文摘In this paper we present the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP. eXTP is a space science mission designed to study fundamental physics under extreme conditions of density, gravity and magnetism. The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density, measuring effects of QED, and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity. In addition to investigating fundamental physics, eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects. 6Overview to the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (Insight-HXMT) Satellite显示文摘As China’s first X-ray astronomical satellite, the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (HXMT), which was dubbed as Insight-HXMT after the launch on June 15, 2017, is a wide-band(1-250 ke V) slat-collimator-based X-ray astronomy satellite with the capability of all-sky monitoring in 0.2-3 Me V. 10Effect of nitrite on hydrolysis-acidification, biogas production and microbial community in semi-continuous two-phase anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge显示文摘Previous study found that the pre-treatment of sewage sludge with nitrite improves the biogas production during the mono/two-phase anaerobic digestion (AD) using batch biochemical methane potential tests.In this study,the effects of nitrite on hydrolysisacidification,biogas production,volatile solids destruction and microbial composition in semi-continuous two-phase AD of sewage sludge were investigated.The addition of nitrite promotes sludge organic matter solubilization (+484%) and VFAs production (+98.9%),and causes an increase in the VS degradation rate during the AD process (+8.7%).The comparison of biogas production from the acidogenic and methanogenic reactors with or without the addition of nitrite implies that the nitrite has no significant effect on the overall biogas production of two-phase sludge AD process.High-throughput sequencing analysis shows that the microbial communities of bacteria and archaea in two-phase AD reactors significantly changes after the addition of nitrite.Vulcanibacillus (bacteria) and Candidatus Methanofastidiosum (archaea) become the dominant genera in the acidogenic and methanogenic reactors with the nitrite respectively.These findings provide new insights about using nitrite to promote the organic matter degradation of sewage sludge in a semicontinuous two-phase AD system.Qian Sheng Yiqing Lu Shijie Yuan Xiaowei Li Xiaohu Dai Yali Guo Bin Dong 2023Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,4:1

12Improved Spallation Resistance of the Oxide Scale by Hf/Y Co-doping in Ni-Based Superalloy at High Temperature显示文摘Ni-based superalloys added with comparably higher concentrations of single-doped Hf and co-doped Hf/Y are prepared by vacuum induction melting(VIM).The oxidation properties up to 300 h at 900℃,1000℃,and 1100℃ are investigated.The undoped alloy exhibited a minimum oxidation rate at 900℃ and 1000℃.The co-doped alloy showed a higher oxidation rate;however,it possesses better scale adhesion,and no spallation occurs.Hf-doped alloy showed a lower oxidation rate and better scale adhesion at 900℃ and 1000℃,but exhibited a shorter lifetime at 1100℃.The spallation of the Hf-doped alloy is attributed to the precipitation of the HfO2 in and beneath the oxide scale.The spallation in the undoped alloy is accredited to the thermal expansion mismatch between the growing oxide scale and superalloy substrate.Incorporating two reactive elements(REs)in alloy minimized the precipitation of RE oxide in the oxide scale,diminished internal oxidation in the alloy,and decreased oxide scale spallation.Khalil Rehman Naicheng Sheng Shigang Fan Shijie Sun Guicheng Hou Yizhou Zhou Xiaofeng Sun 2022Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2022,35,10:0
13Pump quantum efficiency optimization of 3.5 μm Er-doped ZBLAN fiber laser for high-power operation显示文摘976 nm+1976 nm dual-wavelength pumped Er-doped ZBLAN fiber lasers are generally accepted as the preferred solution for achieving 3.5μm lasing.However,the 2μm band excited state absorption from the upper lasing level(^(4 )F_(9/2)→^(4)F_(7/2))depletes the Er ions population inversion,reducing the pump quantum efciency and limiting the power scaling.In this work,we demonstrate that the pump quantum efciency can be efectively improved by using a long-wavelength pump with lower excited state absorption rate.A 3.5μm Er-doped ZBLAN fber laser was built and its performances at diferent pump wavelengths were experimentally investigated in detail.A maximum output power at 3.46μm of~7.2 W with slope efciency(with respect to absorbed 1990 nm pump power)of 41.2%was obtained with an optimized pump wavelength of 1990 nm,and the pump quantum efciency was increased to 0.957 compared with the 0.819 for the conventional 1976 nm pumping scheme.Further power scaling was only limited by the available 1990 nm pump power.A numerical simulation was implemented to evaluate the cross section of excited state absorption via a theoretical ftting of experimental results.The potential of further power scaling was also discussed,based on the developed model.Lu Zhang Shijie Fu Quan Sheng Xuewen Luo Junxiang Zhang Wei Shi Jianquan Yao 2023Frontiers of Optoelectronics2023,16,4:0
14Loosely coordinating diluted highly concentrated electrolyte toward -60℃ Li metal batteries显示文摘Lithium metal batteries(LMBs) promise energy density over 400 Wh kg^(-1).However,they suffer severe electrochemical performance deterioration at sub-zero temperatures.Such failure behavior highly correlates to inferior lithium metal anode(LMA) compatibility and sluggish Li^(+) desolvation.Here,we demonstrate that cyclopentylmethyl ether(CPME) based diluted high-concentration electrolyte(DHCE)enables-60℃ LMBs operation.By leveraging the loose coordination between Li^(+) and CPME,such developed electrolyte boosts the formation of ion clusters to derive anion-dominant interfacial chemistry for enhancing LMA compatibility and greatly accelerates Li^(+) desolvation kinetics.The resulting electrolyte demonstrates high Coulombic efficiencies(CE),providing over 99.5%,99.1%,98.5% and 95% at 25,-20,-40,and-60℃respectively.The assembled Li-S battery exhibits remarkable cyclic stability in-20,and-40℃ at 0.2 C charging and 0.5 C discharging.Even at-60℃,Li-S cell with this designed electrolyte retains> 70% of the initial capacity over 170 cycles.Besides,lithium metal coin cell and pouch cell with10 mg cm^(-2) high S cathode loading exhibit cycling stability at-20℃.This work offers an opportunity for rational designing electrolytes toward low temperature LMBs.Han Zhang Ziqi Zeng Qiang Wu Xinlan Wang Mingsheng Qin Sheng Lei Shijie Cheng Jia Xie 2024Journal of Energy Chemistry2024,90,3:0
15Spin-Enhanced C-C Coupling in CO_(2)Electroreduction with Oxide-Derived Copper显示文摘Electrocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide(CO_(2))to multicarbon(C2+)products involves intricate multiple protons and electron transfer of C-C coupling,which is dictated by not only the intrinsic reactivity but also the spin states of electrons in the catalyst.Here,we observe spin-enhanced CO_(2)reduction(CO_(2)RR)electrocatalytic activity on an oxidederived copper(OD-Cu)catalyst due to the existence of a specific Cu*site that carried the magnetic moments.Due to the correlation of magnetic and catalytic properties in OD-Cu,the current density through the OD-Cu electrode increases by nearly 10%at 350 mT.The field strength and angle dependence of such magnetic field effect(MFE),together with the time-resolved measurements proved that it originated from the alignment of magnetic moments on Cu*sites.The MFE on the electrocatalytic process enabled an enhancement(up to 15%)of the CO_(2)RR Faradaic efficiency using the OD-Cu catalyst.Importantly,the enhancement was attributed to the spinantiparallel alignment of electrons to promote C-C coupling on asymmetric Cu*-Cu sites;consequently,the optimal bias was reduced by∼0.2 V under the magnetic field for C2 products with Faradaic efficiency>30%and selectivity>75%.Our work uncovers a new paradigmfor spin-enhanced catalysis applicable to a broad range of chemical reactions involving spin singlet products.Jinjie Hao Shijie Xie Qing Huang Zijing Ding Hua Sheng Chuang Zhang Jiannian Yao 2023CCS Chemistry2023,5,9:0
16HSPA8 acts as an amyloidase to suppress necroptosis by inhibiting and reversing functional amyloid formation显示文摘Ultra-stable fibrous structure is a hallmark of amyloids.In contrast to canonical disease-related amyloids,emerging research indicates that a significant number of cellular amyloids,termed‘functional amyloids’,contribute to signal transduction as temporal signaling hubs in humans.However,it is unclear how these functional amyloids are effectively disassembled to terminate signal transduction.RHIM motif-containing amyloids,the largest functional amyloid family discovered thus far,play an important role in mediating necroptosis signal transduction in mammalian cells.Here,we identify heat shock protein family A member 8(HSPA8)as a new type of enzyme—which we name as‘amyloidase’—that directly disassembles RHIM-amyloids to inhibit necroptosis signaling in cells and mice.Different from its role in chaperone-mediated autophagy where it selects substrates containing a KFERQ-like motif,HSPA8 specifically recognizes RHIM-containing proteins through a hydrophobic hexapeptide motif N(X_(1))φ(X_(3)).The SBD domain of HSPA8 interacts with RHIM-containing proteins,preventing proximate RHIM monomers from stacking into functional fibrils;furthermore,with the NBD domain supplying energy via ATP hydrolysis,HSPA8 breaks down pre-formed RHIM-amyloids into non-functional monomers.Notably,HSPA8’s amyloidase activity in disassembling functional RHIM-amyloids does not require its co-chaperone system.Using this amyloidase activity,HSPA8 reverses the initiator RHIM-amyloids(formed by RIP1,ZBP1,and TRIF)to prevent necroptosis initiation,and reverses RIP3-amyloid to prevent necroptosis execution,thus eliminating multi-level RHIM-amyloids to effectively prevent spontaneous necroptosis activation.The discovery that HSPA8 acts as an amyloidase dismantling functional amyloids provides a fundamental understanding of the reversibility nature of functional amyloids,a property distinguishing them from disease-related amyloids that are unbreakable in vivo.Erpeng Wu Wenyan He Chenlu Wu Zhangcheng Chen Shijie Zhou Xialian Wu Zhiheng Hu Kelong Jia Jiasong Pan Limin Wang Jie Qin Dan Liu Junxia Lu Huayi Wang Jixi Li Sheng Wang Liming Sun 2023Cell Research2023,33,11:0

18“In-N-out” design enabling high-content triethyl phosphate-based non-flammable and high-conductivity electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries显示文摘Safety issues related to flammable electrolytes in lithium-ion batteries(LIBs) remain a major challenge for their extended applications.The use of non-flammable phosphate-based electrolytes has proved the validity in inhibiting the combustion of LIBs.However,the strong interaction between Li^(+) and phosphate leads to a dominant solid electrolyte interphase(SEI) with limited electronic shielding,resulting in the poor Li^(+) intercalation at the graphite(Gr) anode when using high-phosphate-content electrolytes.To mitigate this issue and improve Li^(+) insertion,we propose an “In-N-Out” strategy to render phosphates “noncoordinative”.By employing a combination of strongly polar solvents for a “block effect” and weakly polar solvents for a “drag effect”,we reduce the Li^(+)–phosphate interaction.As a result,phosphates remain in the electrolyte phase(“In”),minimizing their impact on the incompatibility with the Gr electrode(“Out”).We have developed a non-flammable electrolyte with high triethyl phosphate(TEP) content(>60 wt.%),demonstrating the excellent ion conductivity(5.94 mS cm^(-1) at 30 ℃) and reversible Li^(+) intercalation at a standard concentration(~1 mol L^(-1)).This approach enables the manipulation of multiple electrolyte functions and holds the promise for the development of safe electrochemical energy storage systems using non-flammable electrolytes.Mengchuang Liu Fenfen Ma Zicheng Ge Ziqi Zeng Qiang Wu Hui Yan Yuanke Wu Sheng Lei Yanli Zhu Shijie Cheng Jia Xie 2024Science China Chemistry2024,67,2:0
19Enhanced Dynamic Phase Stability and Suppressed Mn Dissolution in Low-Tortuosity Spinel LMO Electrode显示文摘Microspinel LiMn_(2)O_(4)(LMO)is a widely used cathode material in power lithium-ion batteries.However,inevitable Mn dissolution and dynamic phase instability will cause the degradation of microspinel LMO during cycling.Here,a low-tortuosity LMO(LMO-LT)electrode is fabricated by an ice-templating method,which exhibits enhanced dynamic phase stability,alleviated Mn dissolution,and rare particle microcracks during cycling.It is shown that the low-tortuosity electrode enables fast lithium-ion diffusion and thus small concentration polarization,leading to uniform electrochemical reaction within microregions of the LMO-LT electrode.Furthermore,the fast lithium-ion transport kinetics and even mesoscopic scale reactions of the LMO-LT electrode effectively alleviate irreversible phase transition and Mn dissolution as well as suppress crack generation in LMO particles.As a result,the full cell[negative-to-positive capacity ratio(N/P)=1.1]with thick LMO-LT cathode(13 mg cm^(−2))and Li_(4)Ti_(5)O_(12) anode sustains 80.0%capacity over 200 cycles.The LMO-LT electrode further delivers 78.9%capacity of that at 0.1 C at the high rate of 5 C.This work provides an important strategy to enhance dynamic phase stability and suppress Mn dissolution at the mesoscopic scale,promoting the development of high-performance LMO electrodes.Renjie He Sheng Lei Mengchuang Liu Mingsheng Qin Wei Zhong Shijie Cheng Jia Xie 2022Energy Material Advances2022,,1:0
