| 3 | Removal of trace arsenic(V) and phosphate from water by a highly selective ligand exchange adsorbent显示文摘A highly selective ligand exchange type adsorbent was developed for the removal of trace arsenic(V) (As(V)) and phosphate from water. This adsorbent was prepared by loading zirconium(IV) on monophosphonic acid resin. This adsorbent was able to remove toxi canions efficiently at wide pH ranges. However, low pH was preferable for maximum breakthrough capacity in an adsorption operation.The effect of a large amount of competing anions such as chloride, bicarbonate, and sulfate on the adsorption systems of As(V) andphosphate anions was investigated. The experimental findings revealed that the As(V) and phosphate uptakes were not affiected by thesecompeting anions despite the enhancement of the breakthrough points and total adsorption. Phosphate anion was slightly preferablethan As(V) in their competitive adsorption by the adsorbent. The adsorbed As(V) and phosphate on the Zr(IV)-loaded resin werequantitatively eluted with 0.1 mol/L sodium hydroxide solution, and the adsorbent was regenerated by 0.5 mol/L sulfuric acid. Duringseveral cycles of adsorption-elution-regeneration operations, no Zr(IV) was detected in the column efluents. | 4 | Community ecology and spatial distribution of trees in a tropical wet evergreen forest in Kaptai national park in Chittagong Hill Tracts, Bangladesh显示文摘We investigated the floristic composition, woody species diversity and spatial distribution of trees in a tropical wet evergreen forest in Kaptai national park in Chittagong Hill Tracks, Bangladesh. We recorded 25 families, 37 genera, 40 species and 1771 woody individuals in a 0.09 ha plot. Euphorbiaceae and Moraceae were the most speciesrich families, and Castanopsis, Ficus and Terminalia were the most species-rich genera. Bursera serrata Wall. ex Colebr. was the dominant species in terms of highest importance value(13%). Trema orientalis(L.)Bl was typically a light demanding species as it appeared in the top canopy with only one individual having the seventh highest IV, but had no regeneration. The expected maximum number of species(Smax) was 140,indicating that many species may invade the forest as the Smax is greater than the recorded total number of species. The nature of the disappearance and appearance of species in the present forest reflects instability of floristic composition. The values of Shannon's index H ′ and Pielou's index J ′(evenness) were 3.36 bit and 0.63, respectively. These values show moderately high species diversity as compared to other subtropical forests in the tropics. In addition, a sample area of 200 m2 in this forest would be sufficient for measuring the diversity indices H ′ and J ′,whereas the trend of J ′may indicate the rate of equality of individuals among the different species decreased with increasing area. The distribution pattern for the total stand was completely random. However, the dominant species showed aggregate distribution for small areas, but random distribution for large areas. The spatial association between species showed that the strongest positive interspecific association occurred between Streblus asper Lour. and Castanea indica Roxb.(ω =0.51). As a whole, most species were weakly associated with each other,of which 58% species associations were completely negative. The result of cluster analysis showed that species pairs were spatially independent at all or most small clusters; stands of species from all clusters are mosaics of complete habitat and pioneer habitat. All patches in this forest community have similar habitat and regeneration niches, which could be a phenomenon for a young growth forest. Thus, the existence of habitat and regeneration niches may be an important factor in the maintenance of diversity in this forest. | S. M. | 18 | Phenotypic and Molecular Assessment of Wheat Genotypes Tolerant to Leaf Blight,Rust and Blast Diseases显示文摘Globally among biotic stresses,diseases like blight,rust and blast constitute prime constraints for reducing wheat productivity especially in Bangladesh.For sustainable productivity,the development of disease-resistant lines and high yielding varieties is vital and necessary.This study was conducted using 122 advanced breeding lines of wheat including 21 varieties developed by Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute with aims to identify genotypes having high yield potential and resistant to leaf blight,leaf rust and blast diseases.These genotypes were evaluated for resistance against leaf blight and leaf rust at Dinajpur and wheat blast at Jashore under field condition.Out of 122 genotypes tested,20 lines were selected as resistant to leaf blight based on the area under the diseases progress curve under both irrigated timely sown and irrigated late sown conditions.Forty-two genotypes were found completely free from leaf rust infection,59 genotypes were identified as resistant,and 13 genotypes were identified as moderately resistant to leaf rust.Eighteen genotypes were immune against wheat blast,42 genotypes were categorized as resistant,and 26 genotypes were identified as moderately resistant to wheat blast.Molecular data revealed that the 16 genotypes showed a positive 2NS segment among the 18 immune genotypes selected against wheat blast under field conditions.The genotypes BAW 1322,BAW 1295,and BAW 1203 can be used as earlier maturing genotypes and the genotypes BAW 1372,BAW 1373,BAW 1297 and BAW 1364 can be used for lodging tolerant due to short plant height.The genotypes WMRI Gom 1,BAW 1349 and BAW 1350 can be selected for bold grain and the genotypes WMRI Gom 1,BAW 1297,BAW 1377 can be used as high yielder for optimum seeding condition but genotypes BAW 1377 and BAW 1366 can be used for late sown condition.The selected resistant genotypes against specific diseases can be used in the further breeding program to develop wheat varieties having higher disease resistance and yield potential. | Ashraful Alam Milan Skalicky Muhammad Rezaul Kabir Monwar Hossain Abdul Hakim Siddikun Nabi Mandal Rabiul Islam Babul Anwar Akbar Hossain Fahmy Hassan Amaal Mohammadein Muhammad Aamir Iqbal Marian Brestic Mohammad Anwar Hossain Khalid Rehman Hakeem Ayman EL Sabagh | 2021 | Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2021,90,4: | 0 |
| 19 | Artifact suppression and analysis of brain activities with electroencephalography signals显示文摘Brain-computer interface is a communication system that connects the brain with computer (or other devices) but is not dependent on the normal output of the brain (i.e., peripheral nerve and muscle). Electro-oculogram is a dominant artifact which has a significant negative influence on further analysis of real electroencephalography data. This paper presented a data adaptive technique for artifact suppression and brain wave extraction from electroencephalography signals to detect regional brain activities. Empirical mode decomposition based adaptive thresholding approach was employed here to suppress the electro-oculogram artifact. Fractional Gaussian noise was used to determine the threshold level derived from the analysis data without any training. The purified electroencephalography signal was composed of the brain waves also called rhythmic components which represent the brain activities. The rhythmic components were extracted from each electroencephalography channel using adaptive wiener filter with the original scale. The regional brain activities were mapped on the basis of the spatial distribution of rhythmic components, and the results showed that different regions of the brain are activated in response to different stimuli. This research analyzed the activities of a single rhythmic component, alpha with respect to different motor imaginations. The experimental results showed that the proposed method is very efficient in artifact suppression and identifying individual motor imagery based on the activities of alpha component. | Md.
