| 1 | Research trend of cascade heat pumps显示文摘Most commercial and industrial facilities require very low temperatures for refrigeration and high temperatures for space heating and hot water purposes. Single stage heat pumps have not been able to meet these temperature demands and have been characterized by low capacities and coefficient of performance(COP). Cascade heat pump has been developed to overcome the weaknesses of single stage heat pumps. This study reviews recent works done by researchers on cascade heat pumps for refrigeration, heating and hot water generation. Selection of suitable refrigerants to meet the pressure and temperature demands of each stage of the cascade heat pump has been discussed. Optimization of design parameters such as intermediate temperature(low stage condensing and high stage evaporating temperatures), and temperature difference in the cascade heat exchanger for optimum performance of the cascade heat pump has been reviewed. It was found that optimising each design parameter of the cascade heat pump is necessary for maximum system performance and this may improve the exergetic efficiency, especially of cascade refrigeration systems, by about 30.88%. Cascade heat pumps have wider range of application especially for artificial snow production, in the supermarkets,for natural gas liquefaction, in drying clothes and food and as heat recovery system. The performance of cascade heat pumps can be improved by 19% when coupled with other renewable energy sources for various real time applications. Also, there is the need for much research on refrigerant charge amount of cascade heat pumps, refrigerant-refrigerant heat exchangers to be used as cascade heat exchanger, cascade heat pumps for simultaneous cooling, heating and hot water generation and on the use of variable speed compressors and their control strategies in matching system capacity especially at part load conditions. | BOAHEN Samuel CHOI JongMin | 2017 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2017,60,11: | 5 |

| 13 | Analysis of indoor set-point temperature of split-type ACs on thermal comfort and energy savings for office buildings in hot-humid climates显示文摘In hot-humid climates,particularly in sub-Saharan Africa(SSA),ambient temperatures and relative humidity are as high as 35°C and 84%,respectively,requiring the use of mechanical cooling systems for indoor thermal comfort.Split-type vapor-compression air-conditioners(SVAC)are mainly used for space cooling in SSA and consume 60-80%of total energy consumption in commercial and public buildings.Appropriate control strategy of the indoor set-point temperature of SVAC can result in significant energy savings in these buildings.In this study,modeling and dynamic simulation have been conducted using EnergyPlus to predict the energy saving potential and indoor thermal comfort of buildings in hot-humid climates by controlling set-point temperature of the SVAC.In a case study,climatic data for Ghana,was used to predict the energy saving potential and indoor thermal comfort.The study results revealed that,to ensure indoor thermal comfort at high outdoor temperature condition of 35°C,the least and optimum set-point temperatures of the SVAC should be 21°C and 25°C,respectively.On the other hand,for low outdoor temperature condition,the least and optimum set-point temperatures were 22°C and 26°C,respectively.Considering 1-star and 2-star rated SVACs which are dominantly used in Ghana,operating at 21-25°C in the case of high outdoor conditions,and 22-26°C for low outdoor conditions relative to the least temperatures resulted in energy savings of 8-33%and 12-44%,respectively. | KofiOwura Amoabeng Richard Opoku Samuel Boahen George Yaw Obeng | 2023 | Energy and Built Environment2023,4,3: | 1 |
