1Sodium Stress in the Halophyte Thellungiella halophila and Transcriptional Changes in a thsos1-RNA Interference Line显示文摘The plasma membrane Na^+/H^+-antiporter salt overly sensitive1(SOS1)from the halophytic Arabidopsis-relative Thel-lungiella halophila(ThSOS1)shows conserved sequence and domain structure with the orthologous genes fromArabidopsis thaliana and other plants.When expression of ThSOS1 was reduced by RNA interference(RNAi),pronouncedcharacteristics of salt-sensitivity were observed.We were interested in monitoring altered transcriptional responsesbetween Thellungiella wild type and thsosl-4,a representative RNAi line with particular emphasis on root responses to saltstress at 350 mmol/L NaCl,a concentration that is only moderately stressful for mature wild type plants.Transcript profilingrevealed several functional categories of genes that were differently affected in wild-type and RNAi plants.Down-regulationof SOS1 resulted in different gene expression even in the absence of stress.The pattern of gene induction in the RNAi plantunder salt stress was similar to that of glycophytic Arabidopsis rather than that of wild type Thellungiella.The RNAi plantsfailed to down-regulate functions that are normally reduced in wild type Thellungiella upon stress and did not up-regulatefunctions that characterize the Thellungiella salt stress response.Metabolite changes observed in wild type Thellungiellaafter salt stress were less pronounced or absent in RNAi plants.Transcript and metabolite behavior suggested SOS1functions including but also extending its established function as a sodium transporter.The down-regulation of ThSOS1converted the halophyte Thellungiella into a salt-sensitive plant.Dong-Ha Oh Qingqiu Gong Alex Ulanov Quan Zhang Youzhi Li Wenying Ma Dae-Jin Yun Ray A. 2Healing time of incision infection after hepatobiliary surgery treated by needle-free incision suture closure显示文摘AIM:To compare the effectiveness of needle-free incision suture closure with butterfly tape and traditional secondary suturing techniques in treating incision infection.METHODS:Two hundred and twenty-three patients with incision infection following hepatobiliary surgery at a tertiary hospital were randomly divided into three groups:90 patients were closed by needle-free incision suture closure,which gradually closed the incision wound when drainage from incision infection was visibly decreased and healthy granulation tissues had grown;79 patients were closed by butterfly bandage;another 54 patients were closed by traditional secondary suturing technique.Healing time of incision infection was calculated from the beginning of dressing change to the healing of the incision.RESULTS:Healing time in the needle-free incision suture closure group(24.2±7.2 d)was significantly shorter than that in the butterfly bandage group(33.3±11.2 d)and the traditional secondary suturing group(36.2±15.3 d)(P<0.05).Healing time in the butterfly bandage group appeared to be slightly shorter than that in the secondary suture group,but the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).CONCLUSION:Needle-free incision suture closure could gradually close the infection wound at the same time of drainage and dressing change,thereby shortening the healing time.Wen-Jie Ma Yong Zhou Hui Mao Rui-Hua Xu Anuj Shrestha Fu-Yu Li Alex Lorance Qin Yang Yong-Qiong Zhang Ting Jiang Huan Feng Wei Zhang Nan-Sheng Cheng 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,42:8

8Approaching 19%efficiency and stable binary polymer solar cells enabled by a solidification strategy of solvent additive显示文摘Additives play a crucial role in enhancing the photovoltaic performance of polymer solar cells(PSCs).However,the typical additives used to optimize blend morphology of PSCs are still high boiling-point solvents,while their trace residues may reduce device stability.Herein,an effective strategy of“solidification of solvent additive(SSA)”has been developed to convert additive from liquid to solid,by introducing a covalent bond into low-cost solvent diphenyl sulfide(DPS)to synthesize solid dibenzothiophene(DBT)in one-step,which achieves optimized morphology thus promoting efficiency and device stability.Owing to the fine planarity and volatilization of DBT,the DBT-processed films achieve ordered molecular crystallinity and suitable phase separation compared to the additive-free or DPS-treated ones.Importantly,the DBT-processed device also possesses improved light absorption,enhanced charge transport,and thus a champion efficiency of 17.9%is achieved in the PM6:Y6-based PSCs with an excellent additive component tolerance,reproducibility,and stability.Additionally,the DBT-processed PM6:L8-BO-based PSCs are further fabricated to study the universality of SSA strategy,offering an impressive efficiency approaching19%as one of the highest values in binary PSCs.In conclusion,this article developed a promising strategy named SSA to boost efficiency and improve stability of PSCs.Manjun Xiao Longfei Liu Yongdie Meng Baobing Fan Wenyan Su Conggui Jin Luocheng Liao Fan Yi Chao Xu Rui Zhang Alex K.-Y.Jen Wei Ma Qunping Fan 2023Science China Chemistry2023,66,5:1

12A new perspective to develop regiorandom polymer acceptors with high active layer ductility,excellent device stability,and high efficiency approaching 17%显示文摘The recently reported efficient polymerized small-molecule acceptors(PSMAs)usually adopt a regioregular backbone by polymerizing small-molecule acceptors precursors with a low-reactivity 5-brominated 3-(dicyanomethylidene)indan-1-one(IC)end group or its derivatives,leading to low molecular weight,and thus reduce active layer mechanical properties.Herein,a series of newly designed chlorinated PSMAs originating from isomeric IC end groups are developed by adjusting chlorinated positions and copolymerized sites on end groups to achieve high molecular weight,favorable intermolecular interaction,and improved physicochemical properties.Compared with regioregular PY2Se-Cl-o and PY2Se-Cl-m,regiorandom PY2Se-Cl-ran has a similar absorption profile,moderate lowest unoccupied molecular orbital level,and favorable intermolecular packing and crystallization properties.Moreover,the binary PM6:PY2Se-Cl-ran blend achieves better ductility with a crack-onset strain of 17.5% and improved power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 16.23% in all-polymer solar cells(all-PSCs)due to the higher molecular weight of PY2Se-Cl-ran and optimized blend morphology,while the ternary PM6:J71:PY2Se-Cl-ran blend offers an impressive PCE approaching 17% and excellent device stability,which are all crucial for potential practical applications of all-PSCs in wearable electronics.To date,the efficiency of 16.86% is the highest value reported for the regiorandom PSMAs-based all-PSCs and is also one of the best values reported for the all-PSCs.Our work provides a new perspective to develop efficient all-PSCs,with all high active layer ductility,impressive PCE,and excellent device stability,towards practical applications.Qunping Fan Ruijie Ma Wenyan Su Qinglian Zhu Zhenghui Luo Kai Chen Yabing Tang Francis RLin Yuxiang Li He Yan Chuluo Yang Alex K.-Y.Jen Wei Ma 2023Carbon Energy2023,5,2:0

15Decline in subarachnoid haemorrhage volumes associated with the first wave of the COVID- 19 pandemic显示文摘Background During the COVID-19 pandemic,decreased volumes of stroke admissions and mechanical thrombectomy were reported.The study’s objective was to examine whether subarachnoid haemorrhage(SAH)hospitalisations and ruptured aneurysm coiling interventions demonstrated similar declines.Methods We conducted a cross-sectional,retrospective,observational study across 6 continents,37 countries and 140 comprehensive stroke centres.Patients with the diagnosis of SAH,aneurysmal SAH,ruptured aneurysm coiling interventions and COVID-19 were identified by prospective aneurysm databases or by International Classification of Diseases,10th Revision,codes.The 3-month cumulative volume,monthly volumes for SAH hospitalisations and ruptured aneurysm coiling procedures were compared for the period before(1 year and immediately before)and during the pandemic,defined as 1 March-31 May 2020.The prior 1-year control period(1 March-31 May 2019)was obtained to account for seasonal variation.Findings There was a significant decline in SAH hospitalisations,with 2044 admissions in the 3 months immediately before and 1585 admissions during the pandemic,representing a relative decline of 22.5%(95%CI−24.3%to−20.7%,p<0.0001).Embolisation of ruptured aneurysms declined with 1170-1035 procedures,respectively,representing an 11.5%(95%CI−13.5%to−9.8%,p=0.002)relative drop.Subgroup analysis was noted for aneurysmal SAH hospitalisation decline from 834 to 626 hospitalisations,a 24.9%relative decline(95%CI−28.0%to−22.1%,p<0.0001).A relative increase in ruptured aneurysm coiling was noted in low coiling volume hospitals of 41.1%(95%CI 32.3%to 50.6%,p=0.008)despite a decrease in SAH admissions in this tertile.Interpretation There was a relative decrease in the volume of SAH hospitalisations,aneurysmal SAH hospitalisations and ruptured aneurysm embolisations during the 16Natural interploidy hybridization among the key taxa involved in the origin of horticultural chrysanthemums显示文摘Understanding hybridization and introgression between natural plant populations can give important insights into the origins of cultivated species. Recent studies suggest differences in ploidy might not create such strong reproductive barriers as once thought, and thus studies into cultivated origins should examine all co-occurring taxa, including those with contrasting ploidy levels. Here, we characterized hybridization between Chrysanthemum indicum L., Chrysanthemum vestitum (Hemsley) Ling and Chrysanthemum vestitum var. latifolium (Zhou & Chen), the most important wild species involved in the origins of cultivated chrysanthemums. We analyzed the population structure of 317 Chrysanthemum accessions based on 13 microsatellite markers and sequenced chloroplast trnL-trnF for a subset of 103 Chrysanthemum accessions. We identified three distinct genetic clusters, corresponding to the three taxa. We detected 20 hybrids between species of different ploidy levels, of which 19 were between C. indicum (4x) and C. vestitum (6x) and one was between C. indicum and C. vestitum var. latifolium (6x). Fourteen hybrids between C. indicum and C. vestitum were from one of the five study sites. Chrysanthemum vestitum and C. vestitum var. latifolium share only one chloroplast haplotype. The substantially different number of hybrids between hybridizing species was likely due to different levels of reproductive isolation coupled with environmental selection against hybrids.
