| 1 | Clinical and biochemical indexes from 2019-nCoV infected patients linked to viral loads and lung injury显示文摘The outbreak of the 2019-nCoV infection began in December 2019 in Wuhan,Hubei province,and rapidly spread to many provinces in China as well as other countries.Here we report the epidemiological,clinical,laboratory,and radiological characteristics,as well as potential biomarkers for predicting disease severity in 2019-nCoV-infected patients in Shenzhen,China.All 12 cases of the 2019-nCoV-infected patients developed pneumonia and half of them developed acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).The most common laboratory abnormalities were hypoalbuminemia,lymphopenia,decreased percentage of lymphocytes (LYM) and neutrophils (NEU),elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH),and decreased CD8 count.The viral load of 2019-nCoV detected from patient respiratory tracts was positively linked to lung disease severity.ALB,LYM,LYM (%),LDH,NEU (%),and CRP were highly correlated to the acute lung injury.Age,viral load,lung injury score,and blood biochemistry indexes,albumin (ALB),CRP,LDH,LYM (%),LYM,and NEU (%),may be predictors of disease severity.Moreover,the Angiotensin Ⅱlevel in the plasma sample from 2019-nCoV infected patients was markedly elevated and linearly associated to viral load and lung injury.Our results suggest a number of potential diagnosis biomarkers and angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) drugs for potential repurposing treatment of 2019-nCoV infection. | Yingxia Liu Yang Yang Cong Zhang Fengming Huang Fuxiang Wang Jing Yuan Zhaoqin Wang Jinxiu Li Jianming Li Cheng Feng Zheng Zhang Lifei Wang Ling Peng Li Chen Yuhao Qin Dandan Zhao Shuguang Tan Lu Yin Jun Xu Congzhao Zhou Chengyu Jiang Lei Liu | 2020 | Science China(Life Sciences)2020,63,3: | 157 |
| 2 | A novel m6A reader Prrc2a controls oligodendroglial specification and myelination显示文摘While N6-methyladenosine (m6A), the most abundant internal modification in eukaryotic mRNA, is linked to cell differentiation and tissue development, the biological significance of m6A modification in mammalian glial development remains unknown. Here, we identify a novel m6A reader, Prrc2a (Proline rich coiled-coil 2A), which controls oligodendrocyte specification and myelination. Nestin-Cre-mediated knockout of Prrc2a induces significant hypomyelination, decreased lifespan, as well as locomotive and cognitive defects in a mouse model. Further analyses reveal that Prrc2a is involved in oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPCs) proliferation and oligodendrocyte fate determination. Accordingly, oligodendroglial-lineage specific deletion of Prrc2a causes a similar phenotype of Nestin-Cre-mediated deletion. Combining transcriptome-wide RNA-seq, m6A-RIP-seq and Prrc2a RIP-seq analysis, we find that Olig2 is a critical downstream target gene of Prrc2a in oligodendrocyte development. Furthermore, Prrc2a stabilizes Olig2 mRNA through binding to a consensus GGACU motif in the Olig2 CDS (coding sequence) in an m6A-dependent manner. Interestingly, we also find that the m6A demethylase, Fto, erases the m6A modification of Olig2 mRNA and promotes its degradation. Together, our results indicate that Prrc2a plays an important role in oligodendrocyte specification through functioning as a novel m6A reader. | 3 | Few-layer Tellurium:one-dimensional-like layered elementary semiconductor with striking physical properties显示文摘Few-layer Tellurium, an elementary semiconductor, succeeds most of striking physical properties that black phosphorus(BP) offers and could be feasibly synthesized by simple solution-based methods. It is comprised of non-covalently bound parallel Te chains, among which covalent-like feature appears.This feature is, we believe, another demonstration of the previously found covalent-like quasi-bonding(CLQB) where wavefunction hybridization does occur. The strength of this inter-chain CLQB is comparable with that of intra-chain covalent bonding, leading to closed stability of several Te allotropes. It also introduces a tunable bandgap varying from nearly direct 0.31 eV(bulk) to indirect 1.17 eV(2L) and four(two) complex, highly anisotropic and layer-dependent hole(electron) pockets in the first Brillouin zone.It also exhibits an extraordinarily high hole mobility(~10~5 cm^2/Vs) and strong optical absorption along the non-covalently bound direction, nearly isotropic and layer-dependent optical properties, large ideal strength over 20%, better environmental stability than BP and unusual crossover of force constants for interlayer shear and breathing modes. All these results manifest that the few-layer Te is an extraordinary-high-mobility, high optical absorption, intrinsic-anisotropy, low-cost-fabrication, tunable bandgap, better environmental stability and nearly direct bandgap semiconductor. | 4 | Efficacy and safety of Shaoyang Xibi decoction in patients with knee osteoarthritis:a multi-center,single-blind,randomized controlled trial显示文摘PURPOSE: To observe the efficacy and safety of Shaoyang Xibi decoction(SYXBD) in patients with knee osteoarthritis(KOA), and to verify that the theory of 'Shaoyang dominating bone' in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) can be applied to KOA treatment.METHODS: Participants were randomly allocated to two groups: SYXBD(treatment group, n = 66)and Meloxicam(control group, n = 66). Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC) and 36-Item Short Form Health Survey(SF-36) were used to assess efficacy before the treatment and 8 weeks after the treatment.RESULTS: Baseline data before the treatment between the two groups were similar. The WOMAC scores significantly decreased and the SF-36 scores significantly increased after 8-week treatment in both groups compared with before the treatment(P < 0.05). SYXBD significantly decreased pain scores(P < 0.001), physical function scores(P <0.001) and the total scores(P < 0.001) in WOMAC compared to Meloxicam. SYXBD significantly improved physical function(P = 0.021), bodily pain(P = 0.002) and general health(P = 0.014), with no significant difference in role emotional(P = 0.053),role physical(P = 0.517), vitality(P = 0.241), social function(P = 0.712) and mental health(P = 0.800)in SF-36 compared to Meloxicam. No adverse events were reported in the treatment group while13 adverse events happened in the control group during the study.CONCLUSION: SYXBD, prepared based on the theory of 'Shaoyang dominating bone', has a better curative efficay and safety in patients with KOA compared with Meloxicam. | 6 | Elevated plasma levels of selective cytokines in COVID-19 patients reflect viral load and lung injury显示文摘A recent outbreak of pneumonia in Wuhan,China was found to be caused by a 2019 novel coronavirus(2019-nCoV or SARS-CoV-2 or HCoV-19).We previously reported the clinical features of 12 patients with2019-n Co V infections in Shenzhen,China.To further understand the pathogenesis of COVID-19 and find better ways to monitor and treat the disease caused by 2019-n Co V,we measured the levels of 48 cytokines in the blood plasma of those 12 COVID-19 patients.Thirty-eight out of the 48 measured cytokines in the plasma of 2019-n Co V-infected patients were significantly elevated compared to healthy individuals.Seventeen cytokines were linked to 2019-nCoV loads.Fifteen cytokines,namely M-CSF,IL-10,IFN-α2,IL-17,IL-4,IP-10,IL-7,IL-1 ra,G-CSF,IL-12,IFN-γ,IL-1α,IL-2,HGF and PDGF-BB,were strongly associated with the lung-injury Murray score and could be used to predict the disease severity of2019-n Co V infections by calculating the area under the curve of the receiver-operating characteristics.Our results suggest that 2019-nCoV infections trigger extensive changes in a wide array of cytokines,some of which could be potential biomarkers of disease severity of 2019-n Co V infections.These findings will likely improve our understanding of the immunopathologic mechanisms of this emerging disease.Our results also suggest that modulators of cytokine responses may play a therapeutic role in combating the disease once the functions of these elevated cytokines have been characterized. | Yingxia Liu Cong Zhang Fengming Huang Yang Yang Fuxiang Wang Jing Yuan Zheng Zhang Yuhao Qin Xiaoyun Li Dandan Zhao Shunwang Li Shuguang Tan Zhaoqin Wang Jinxiu Li Chenguang Shen Jianming Li Ling Peng Weibo Wu Mengli Cao Li Xing Zhixiang Xu Li Chen Congzhao Zhou William J Liu Lei Liu Chengyu Jiang | 2020 | National Science Review2020,7,6: | 6 |
| 7 | Survey of reefs based on Landsat 8 operational land imager(OLI)images in the Nansha Islands, South China Sea显示文摘A detailed survey of the reefs in the Nansha Islands' sea that are of strategic importance is conducive to their future development. In this study, a total of 50 Landsat 8 operational land imager(OLI) images were used to analyze the geological features and spectral characteristics of the Nansha reefs. The exposed islands/sandbanks,reef flats and sub-tidal reefs were identified with the near-infrared band, the red and green bands, and the blue band, respectively. Based on the relationships among various characteristics and bands illustrated in the OLI images, the maximum between-cluster variance threshold algorithm(OTSU method) and the mathematical morphology were employed to extract characteristic parameters of the spatial geometry of the reefs from top to bottom, which were subsequently operated by a series of post-processing methods such as vectorization,simplification and topological analysis. Among the 132 standalone reefs and 16 atolls that are identified in the study, four reefs have yet to be named in the Standard Names of Various Islands in the South China Sea and the website Nansha Islands Online(http://gffzzd4db47f6efa542b8hoqpkbbn0uvx06bwp.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/). Another 24 ones are exposed to the atmosphere even during high tides. Taiping Island with an area of 0.57 km^2 represents the largest exposed geological feature. | 8 | High-quality genome assembly of 'Cuiguan' pear (Pyrus pyrifolia) as a reference genome for identifying regulatory genes and epigenetic modifications responsible for bud dormancy显示文摘Dormancy-associated MADS-box(DAM)genes serve as crucial regulators of the endodormancy cycle in rosaceous plants.Although pear DAM genes have been identified previously,the lack of a high-quality reference genome and techniques to study gene function have prevented accurate genome-wide analysis and functional verification of such genes.Additionally,the contribution of other genes to the regulation of endodormancy release remains poorly understood.In this study,a high-quality genome assembly for'Cuiguan'pear(Pyrus pyrifolia),which is a leading cultivar with a low chilling requirement cultivated in China,was constructed using PacBio and Hi-C technologies.Using this genome sequence,we revealed that pear DAM genes were tandemly clustered on Chr8 and Chr15 and were differentially expressed in the buds between'Cuiguan'and the high-chilling-requirement cultivar'Suli'during the dormancy cycle.Using a virus-induced gene silencing system,we determined the repressive effects of DAM genes on bud break.Several novel genes potentially involved in the regulation of endodormancy release were identified by RNA sequencing and H3K4me3 chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing analyses of‘Suli'buds during artificial chilling using the new reference genome.Our findings enrich the knowledge of the regulatory mechanism underlying endodormancy release and chilling requirements and provide a foundation for the practical regulation of dormancy release in fruit trees as an adaptation to climate change. | Yuhao Gao Qinsong Yang Xinhui Yan Xinyue Wu Feng Yang Jianzhao Li Jia Wei Junbei Ni Mudassar Ahmad Songling Bai Yuanwen Teng | 2021 | Horticulture Research2021,8,1: | 5 |

| 11 | A New Species of the Genus Achalinus from Huangshan, Anhui, China(Squamata: Xenodermidae)显示文摘A new species of the genus Achalinus is described based on five specimens collected from the villages of Huangjialing and Fuxi, Huangshan, Anhui, China. It can be morphologically differentia ted from all the other species in Achalinus except for A. spinalis and A. werneri by the presence of a dotted black streak in the middle of the subcaudal. It can be distinguished from A. spinalis in that its two anterior temporals are in contact with eye, and A. werneri by its light brown flanks. The phylogenetic rela tionship of Achalinus was reconstructed using the mitochondrial locus of cytochrome coxidase subunit 1(CO1). The five new specimens form a monophyletic clade with strong support. The uncorrected p-dista nces between the new species and other representatives of Achalinus range from 13.6% to 21.7%. | 12 | Blue light-emitting polyfluorenes containing dibenzothiophene-S,S-dioxide unit in alkyl side chain显示文摘Blue light-emitting polyfluorenes containing dibenzothiophene-S,S-dioxide(SO) unit in alkyl side chain(PF-FSOs and PF-CzSOs) were synthesized. All the polymers show high thermal stability with the decomposition temperatures over400 °C. The highest occupied molecular orbital(HOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital(LUMO) energy levels of the copolymer slightly decrease with the increase of SO content in side chain. PL spectra of the polymers show slightly red shift and broadening with the increase of solvent polarities, indicating unremarkable intramolecular charge transfer(ICT) effect in the polymers containing SO unit in alkyl side chain. EL spectra of the polymers are almost unchanged in the current densities from 100 to 400 mA cm.2, indicating the superb EL stability of the resulted polymers. The EL spectra of the copolymers exhibit obvious blue-shift and narrowing with the CIE of(0.18, 0.11) for PF-FSO10 and(0.17, 0.11) for PF-CzSO10, respectively,compared with PF-SO10 containing SO unit in main chain with the CIE of(0.16, 0.17) and PFO with the CIE of(0.18, 0.18).The superior device performances were obtained with the luminous efficiency(LEmax) of 1.17 and 0.68 cd A.1 for PF-FSO15 and PF-CzSO20, respectively, compared with the LEmax of 0.37 cd A.1 for PFO. | 17 | Enhanced ionic diffusion interface in hierarchical metal-organic framework@layered double hydroxide for high-performance hybrid supercapacitors显示文摘Layered double hydroxides(LDHs)with abundant accessible active sites are promising electrode materials for hybrid supercapacitor(HSC)due to their ultrahigh theoretical capacitances.However,the structural agglomeration of LDH leads to poor rate capability and durability.Herein,we construct a diffusion-controlled interface in hierarchical architecture of metal-organic framework(MOF)HKUST-1@cobalt-nickel LDH(denoted as HKUST-1@CoNiLDH)through an in situ etching/electro-deposition strategy.The rapid charge transfer and ionic diffusion in HKUST-1@CoNiLDH deliver a remarkable specific capacity of 297.23 mAh·g^(−1) at 1 A·g^(−1),superior to mostly reported LDH-based electrodes.More importantly,the as-prepared HKUST-1@CoNiLDH//activated carbon HSC exhibit a high energy density of 39.8 Wh·kg^(−1) at a power density of 799.9 W·kg^(−1) with an outstanding capacitance retention of 90%after 5,000 charge–discharge cycles.The in-depth understanding of the ionic diffusion among the MOF/LDH interfaces will greatly promote the further development of designing and synthesizing high performance energy conversion and storage devices. | Yanan Zhang Junlei Chen Chenyang Su Keyao Chen Huabin Zhang Yuhao Yang Wenhuan Huang | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,10: | 2 |

| 19 | Sulfur vs. tellurium: the heteroatom effects on the nonfullerene acceptors显示文摘The effect of chalcogen heteroatom variation on donor materials has been systematically investigated. However, this effect on acceptors has rarely been explored. Herein, nonfullerene acceptors BFPSP and BFPTP were reported by simply changing the chalcogen atoms from S to Te. The differences between BFPSP and BFPTP in light absorption, energy levels, excited-state lifetimes, energy loss, charge mobilities, morphology, and photovoltaic properties were systematically investigated to understand the heteroatom effects.
