1A fundamental theorem for eco-environmental surface modelling and its applications显示文摘We propose a fundamental theorem for eco-environmental surface modelling(FTEEM) in order to apply it into the fields of ecology and environmental science more easily after the fundamental theorem for Earth’s surface system modeling(FTESM). The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei(BTH) region is taken as a case area to conduct empirical studies of algorithms for spatial upscaling, spatial downscaling, spatial interpolation, data fusion and model-data assimilation, which are based on high accuracy surface modelling(HASM), corresponding with corollaries of FTEEM. The case studies demonstrate how eco-environmental surface modelling is substantially improved when both extrinsic and intrinsic information are used along with an appropriate method of HASM. Compared with classic algorithms, the HASM-based algorithm for spatial upscaling reduced the root-meansquare error of the BTH elevation surface by 9 m. The HASM-based algorithm for spatial downscaling reduced the relative error of future scenarios of annual mean temperature by 16%. The HASM-based algorithm for spatial interpolation reduced the relative error of change trend of annual mean precipitation by 0.2%. The HASM-based algorithm for data fusion reduced the relative error of change trend of annual mean temperature by 70%. The HASM-based algorithm for model-data assimilation reduced the relative error of carbon stocks by 40%. 2Importance and vulnerability of lakes and reservoirs supporting drinking water in China显示文摘Drinking water is closely related to human health,disease and mortality,and contaminated drinking water causes 485,000 deaths from diarrhea each year worldwide.China has been facing increasingly severe water scarcity due to both water shortages and poor water quality.Ensuring safe and clean drinking water is a great challenge and top priority,especially for China with 1.4 billion people.In China,more than 4000 centralized drinking water sources including rivers,lakes and reservoirs,and groundwater have been established to serve urban residents.However,there is little knowledge on the percentage,serving population and water quality of three centralized drinking water source types.We collected nationwide centralized drinking water sources data and serving population data covering 395 prefecture-level and county-level cities and water quality data in the two most populous provinces(Guangdong and Shandong)to examine their contribution and importance.Geographically,the drinking water source types can be classified into three clear regions exhibiting apparent differences in the respective contributions of rivers,lakes and reservoirs,and groundwater.We further found that overall,lakes and reservoirs account for 40.6%of the centralized drinking water sources vs.river(30.8%)and groundwater(28.6%)in China.Lakes and reservoirs are particularly important in the densely populated eastern region,where they are used as drinking water sources by 51.0%of the population(318 million).Moreover,the contribution to the drinking water supply from lakes and reservoirs is increasing due to their better water quality and many cross-regional water transfer projects.These results will be useful for the government to improve and optimize the establishment of centralized drinking water sources,which provide safe and clean drinking water in China to safeguard people's lives and health and realize sustainable development goals.Yunlin Zhang Jianming Deng Boqiang Qin Guangwei Zhu Yinjun Zhang Erik Jeppesen Yindong Tong 2023Fundamental Research2023,3,2:3

8Anthropogenic influence on the extreme drought in eastern China in 2022 and its future risk显示文摘2022年夏季中国东部地区遭遇了一次持续性极端高温干旱事件.本文利用CMIP6检测归因比较计划(DAMIP)数据,量化了人为强迫对类2022年极端干旱事件发生概率的影响,并基于未来不同增暖情景试验给出了此类极端干旱事件的未来变化预估.通过分析不同外强迫因子作用下此类极端干旱事件的发生概率变化,发现人为强迫使此类极端干旱事件的发生概率提高约56%,这主要与人为强迫下中国东部平均水汽减少和平均上升运动减弱有关.进一步通过分析此类极端干旱事件对不同温室气体排放情景(SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,SSP5-8.5)的响应,发现在低排放情景下类2022年极端干旱事件的发生概率较当今气候显著下降,这主要与中国东部平均水汽的增加和平均环流的变化有关,而在高排放情景(SSP5-8.5)下,此类极端干旱事件的发生概率较当今气候增加约79%,这主要与高排放情景下平均下沉运动增强有关.该研究表明,人为强迫通过调制气候平均背景场从而引起极端事件发生频次的变化是人类活动影响极端气候事件的重要途径之一,极端干旱事件对温室气体排放量的响应可能是非线性的.Yinjun Zhang Lin Chen Yuqing Li Zi-An Ge 2024Atmospheric and Oceanic Science Letters2024,17,1:0
9Molecular basis and homeostatic regulation of Zinc taste显示文摘Dear Editor,Among all the essential trace metals,zinc is of particular importance for its huge panoply of biological functions.As a pivotal element for hundreds of enzymes,either scarcity or accumulation of body zinc can lead to severe disorders(Maret,2017).Therefore,body zinc must be tightly regulated in order to keep a precise amount that is sufficient for cells’survival but does not cause toxicity.As diet is the major source of trace elements including zinc,animals must adjust their feeding amount and preference to avoid scarcity or accumulation.However,how animal utilize their gustatory organs to detect zinc in food and whether the taste is regulated with body zinc level are unknown.Metals often cause the sense of taste termed as metallic taste.While sodium of certain concentration range delivers hedonic salty taste,salt solutions of most metals taste aversive.It was reported that zinc,copper and other heavy metal ions trigger an unpleasant sense of astringent/drying,sour or bitter.Although taste receptor cells were found essential for the detection of some divalent ions,the molecular mechanisms for this detection are largely elusive.Recently,the receptors for calcium were unambiguously identified in fruit fly(Lee et al.,2018).However,a full repertoire of receptors for sensing divalent ions is still lacking.Rui Luo Yuxiang Zhang Yinjun Jia Yan Zhang Zongyang Li Jieqing Zhao Ting Liu Wei Zhang 2022Protein & Cell2022,13,6:0
