1Bistatic scattering centres of cone-shaped targets and target length estimation显示文摘The bistatic scattering centres are commonly modeled as the fixed scattering centres for imaging;however, the location of the bistatic scattering centre changes with the bistatic geometry in some real scenes. This paper focuses on the bistatic scattering centres of cone-shaped targets and considers how to utilize the length of the bistatic high-resolution range profile(HRRP) for target identification.Firstly, the locations of the bistatic scattering centres on the edge of a cone-shaped target are deduced with the method of equivalent currents, which are the intersection points of the edge and the plane constructed by the symmetry axis and the bisector of the bistatic angle. Then, based on the above conclusion, the wideband echo model and bistatic HRRP of a cone-shaped target is deduced. Then, the relation between the length of the bistatic HRRP and target length is deduced, which is useful for target identification. Finally, the bistatic HRRPs of cone-shaped targets are calculated via the Feko software and the calculated results validate the theoretical analysis. This research provides an exact mathematics model for the echo simulation, imaging, feature extraction and identification of cone-shaped targets in the bistatic radar.AI XiaoFeng ZOU XiaoHai LI YongZhen YANG JianHua XIAO ShunPing 2012Science China(Information Sciences)2012,55,12:8
2Inferring the Tree of Life of the order Cypriniformes, the earth's most diverse clade of freshwater fishes: Implications of varied taxon and character sampling显示文摘The phylogenetic relationships of species are fundamental to any biological investigation, including all evolutionary studies. Accurate inferences of sister group relationships provide the researcher with an historical framework within which the attributes or geographic origin of species (or supraspecific groups) evolved. Taken out of this phylogenetic context, interpretations of evolutionary processes or origins, geographic distributions, or speciation rates and mechanisms, are subject to nothing less than a biological experiment without controls. Cypriniformes is the most diverse clade of freshwater fishes with estimates of diversity of nearly 3,500 species. These fishes display an amazing array of morphological, ecological, behavioral, and geographic diversity and offer a tremendous opportunity to enhance our understanding of the biotic and abiotic factors associated with diversification and adaptation to environments. Given the nearly global distribution of these fishes, they serve as an important model group for a plethora of biological investigations, including indicator species for future cli-matic changes. The occurrence of the zebrafish, Danio rerio, in this order makes this clade a critical component in understanding and predicting the relationship between mutagenesis and phenotypic expressions in vertebrates, including humans. With the tremendous diversity in Cypriniformes, our understanding of their phylogenetic relationships has not proceeded at an acceptable rate, despite a plethora of morphological and more recent mo-lecular studies. Most studies are pre-Hennigian in origin or include relatively small numbers of taxa. Given that analyses of small numbers of taxa for molecular characters can be compromised by peculiarities of long-branch attraction and nodal-density effect, it is critical that significant progress in our understanding of the relationships of these important fishes occurs with increasing sampling of species to mitigate these potential problems. The recent Cypriniformes Tree of Life initiative is an effort to achieve this goal with morphological and molecular (mitochondrial and nuclear) data. In this early synthesis of our understanding of the phylogenetic relationships of these fishes, all types of data have contributed historically to improving our understanding, but not all analyses are complementary in taxon sampling, thus precluding direct understanding of the impact of taxon sampling on achieving accurate phylogenetic inferences. However, recent molecular studies do provide some insight and in some instances taxon sampling can be implicated as a variable that can influence sister group relationships. Other instances may also exist but without inclusion of more taxa for both mitochondrial and nuclear genes, one cannot distinguish between inferences being dictated by taxon sampling or the origins of the molecular data.Richard L. 3Probing the limits of plasmonic enhancement using a two-dimensional atomic crystal probe显示文摘Achieving larger electromagnetic enhancement using a nanogap between neighboring metallic nanostructures has been long pursued for boosting light–matter interactions. However, the quantitative probing of this enhancement is hindered by the lack of a reliable experimental method for measuring the local fields within a subnanometer gap. Here,we use layered MoS2 as a two-dimensional atomic crystal probe in nanoparticle-on-mirror nanoantennas to measure the plasmonic enhancement in the gap by quantitative surface-enhanced Raman scattering. Our designs ensure that the probe filled in the gap has a well-defined lattice orientation and thickness, enabling independent extraction of the anisotropic field enhancements. We find that the field enhancement can be safely described by pure classical electromagnetic theory when the gap distance is no<1.24 nm.For a 0.62 nm gap,the probable emergence of quantum mechanical effects renders an average electric field enhancement of 114-fold,38.4%lower than classical predictions.Wen Chen Shunping Zhang Meng Kang Weikang Liu Zhenwei Ou Yang Li Yexin Zhang Zhiqiang Guan Hongxing Xu 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:4
4Phylogenetic relationships of Cypriniformes and plasticity of pharyngeal teeth in the adaptive radiation of cyprinids显示文摘The Cypriniformes comprise approximately 4,200 species accounting for 25% of the diversity of all freshwater fish, which is widely distributed across the world's continents except Antarctica, South America, and Australia. The highest species diversity is found in Southeastern Asia. Despite its remarkable species diversity and broad-scale geographic patterns of distribution, the evolutionary history of this major freshwater fish group remains largely unresolved. To gain insight of the evolutionary history of Cypriniformes, we present a phylogeny of this group using 1 mitochondrial gene and 15 nuclear genes comprising a total of14,061 bp. Bayesian inference using all gene fragments yielded a well resolved phylogeny, which is mostly consistent with topologies obtained from Maximum Likelihood analyses. Our results further confirmed the monophyly of Cypriniformes and seven constituent subclades including Cyprinidae, Catostomidae, Gyrinocheilidae, Balitoridae, Cobitidae, Nemacheilidae, and Botiidae. Bayesian divergence time analysis indicated that the origin of the Cypriniformes was about 193 Mya during the early Jurassic, coinciding with the onset of the Pangaea breakup. The basal divergence of Cypriniformes is 154 Mya during the late Jurassic. Our findings from molecular divergence and biogeographical analysis indicate the most likely initial geographical range of the ancient Cypriniformes was both East and South Asia(Southeastern area of Mesozoic Laurasia). Moreover, the burst in species diversity in Cyprinidae afforded by the nearly worldwide colonization is possibly in response to the plasticity of pharyngeal dentition. The present study demonstrates that the Cypriniformes was about 193 Mya during the early Jurassic, coinciding with the onset of the Pangaea breakup. The plasticity of pharyngeal dentition of cyprinids might contribute to the burst and radiation of this lineage. The phylogenetic and biogeographic analyses in this study help to improve our understanding of the evolutionary history of this diverse and important freshwater fish group.Wenjing Tao Lei Yang Richard L.Mayden Shunping He 2019Science China(Life Sciences)2019,62,4:4

6Recent genome duplications facilitate the phenotypic diversity of Hb repertoire in the Cyprinidae显示文摘Whole-genome duplications(WGDs)are an important contributor to phenotypic innovations in evolutionary history. The diversity of blood oxygen transport traits is the perfect reflection of physiological versatility for evolutionary success among vertebrates. In this study, the evolutionary changes of hemoglobin(Hb)repertoire driven by the recent genome duplications were detected in representative Cyprinidae fish, including eight diploid and four tetraploid species.Comparative genomic analysis revealed a substantial variation in both membership composition and intragenomic organization of Hb genes in these species.Phylogenetic reconstruction analyses were conducted to characterize the evolutionary history of these genes.Data were integrated with the expression profiles of the genes during ontogeny. Our results indicated that genome duplications facilitated the phenotypic diversity of the Hb gene family;each was associated with species-specific changes in gene content via gene loss and fusion after genome duplications. This led to repeated evolutionary transitions in the ontogenic regulation of Hb gene expression. Our results revealed that genome duplications helped to generate phenotypic changes in Cyprinidae Hb systems.Yi Lei Liandong Yang Haifeng Jiang Juan Chen Ning Sun Wenqi Lv Shunping He 2021Science China(Life Sciences)2021,64,7:2
7Near-field coupling and SERS effects of palladium nanoparticle dimers显示文摘The linear optical properties and the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) effect of spherical palladium nanoparticle dimers are analyzed theoretically using generalized Mie theory. The calculation results demonstrate that the near-field coupling effect greatly influences the absorption, scattering and extinction spectra of nanoparticle dimers. The surface plasmon resonance wave- length red-shifts dramatically as the separation between nanoparticles decreases. Because of the near-field coupling between nanoparticles and the size effect, the maximum SERS enhancement factor at the 'hot spot' between palladium nanoparticle dimers is as high as 107-108, while the averaged SERS enhancement factor over the entire nanoparticle surface is in the range of 105-106. The deviation between the position of the peak in the extinction spectrum and the wavelength for maximum surface-averaged enhancement for the Pd nanoparticle dimers indicates that localized surface plasmon resonance has different influences on the far and near fields. These theoretical results may help to reveal the relationship between the far and near fields, as well as understand the mechanism of electromagnetic enhancement in the surface-enhanced scattering of transition metals.RUAN FangXiong ZHANG ShunPing LI ZhiPeng YANG ZhiLin WU DeYin REN Bin XU HongXing 2010Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,26:2

10Was Wuhan the early epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic?——a critique显示文摘Recently, Worobey et al.(2022) published a report entitled ‘The Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan was the early epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic' that succinctly summarizes their study [1]. A pre-print version of this study had earlier elicited a series of highprofile media coverages [2,3]. All these reports deliver a social-political message that the Huanan market is the epicenter of COVID-19.Yanan Cao Lingling Chen Hua Chen Yupeng Cun Xiaofeng Dai Hongli Du Feng Gao Fengbiao Guo Yalong Guo Pei Hao Shunmin He Shunping He XiongLei He Zheng Hu Boon-Peng Hoh Xin Jin Qian Jiang Qinghua Jiang Asifullah Khan Hong-Zhi Kong Jinchen Li Shuai Cheng Li Ying Li Qiang Lin Jianquan Liu Qi Liu Jian Lu Xuemei Lu Shujin Luo Qinghua Nie Zilong Qiu Tieliu Shi Xiaofeng Song Jianzhong Su Sheng-ce Tao Chaolong Wang Chuan-Chao Wang Guo-Dong Wang Jiguang Wang Qi Wu Shaoyuan Wu Shuhua Xu Yu Xue Wenjun Yang Zhaohui Yang Kai Ye Yuan-Nong Ye Li Yu Fangqing Zhao Yiqiang Zhao Weiwei Zhai Dandan Zhang Liye Zhang Houfeng Zheng Qi Zhou Tianqi Zhu Ya-ping Zhang 2023National Science Review2023,10,4:0
113D landscape reorganization in response to feeding preferences adaptation in the youngest split Gymnocypris fish显示文摘Divergence in feeding preference is one of the main mechanisms that lead to the emergence of new species. However, little is known about the underlying genetic mechanism of feeding preference adaptation, especially in the three-dimensional(3D)chromatin organization regulation.Gymnocypris eckloni scoliostomus(GS)and G.eckloni eckloni(GE)are two sister species of G.eckloni(Cyprinidae:Schizothoracinae:Gymnocypris).Ning Sun Cheng Wang Wenqi Lv Xiaoni Gan Liandong Yang Shunping He Chengchi Fang 2023Journal of Genetics and Genomics2023,50,4:0
12Monsoon boosted radiation of the endemic East Asian carps显示文摘Major historical events often trigger the rapid flourishing of a few lineages, which in turn shape established biodiversity patterns. How did this process occur and develop? This study provides a window into this issue. The endemic East Asian carps(EEAC)dominated the ichthyofauna of East Asia and exhibited a high degree of adaptation to monsoonal river-lake ecosystems.A series of evidence, including ecogeography, phylogenetics, and macroevolution, suggests that the EEAC is a lineage that arose with the East Asian monsoon and thrived intimately with subsequent monsoon activities. We further deduce the evolution of the EEAC and find that a range of historical events in the monsoon setting(e.g.,marine transgression and regression and glacial-interglacial cycle)have further reshaped the distribution patterns of EEAC’s members.Comparative genomics analyses reveal that introgressions during the initial period of EEAC radiation and innovations in the regulation of the brain and nervous system may have aided their adaptation to river-lake ecosystems in a monsoon setting, which boosted radiation.Overall, this study strengthens knowledge of the evolutionary patterns of freshwater fishes in East Asia and provides a model case for understanding the impact of major historical events on the evolution of biota.Chenguang Feng Kun Wang Wenjie Xu Liandong Yang Kunyuan Wanghe Ning Sun Baosheng Wu Feixiang Wu Lei Yang Qiang Qiu Xiaoni Gan Yiyu Chen Shunping He 2023Science China(Life Sciences)2023,66,3:0
13Enlarged fins of Tibetan catfish provide new evidence of adaptation to high plateau显示文摘The uplift of the Tibetan Plateau significantly altered the geomorphology and climate of the Euroasia by creating large mountains and rivers.Fishes are more likely to be affected relative to other organisms,as they are largely restricted to river systems.Faced with the rapidly flowing water in the Tibetan Plateau,a group of catfish has evolved greatly enlarged pectoral fins with more numbers of fin-rays to form an adhesive apparatus. However, the genetic basis of these adaptations in Tibetan catfishes remains elusive. In this study,we performed comparative genomic analyses based on the chromosome-level genome of Glyptosternum maculatum in family Sisoridae and detected some proteins with conspicuously high evolutionary rates in particular in genes involved in skeleton development, energy metabolism, and hypoxia response. We found that the hoxd12a gene evolved faster and a loss-of-function assay of hoxd12a supports a potential role for this gene in shaping the enlarged fins of these Tibetan catfishes.Other genes with amino acid replacements and signatures of positive selection included proteins involved in low temperature(TRMU)and hypoxia(VHL)responses.Functional assays reveal that the G.maculatum TRMU allele generates more mitochondrial ATP than the ancestral allele found in low-altitude fishes.Functional assays of VHL alleles suggest that the G.maculatum allele has lower transactivation activity than the low-altitude forms. These findings provide a window into the genomic underpinnings of physiological adaptations that permit G.maculatum to survive in the harsh environment of the Tibetan Himalayas that mirror those that are convergently found in other vertebrates such as humans.Liandong Yang Ning Sun Honghui Zeng Ying Wang Wenjun Chen Zufa Ding Yang Liu Jing Wang Minghui Meng Yanjun Shen Jingliang Kang Xiuhui Ma Wenqi Lv Juan Chen Axel Meyer Baocheng Guo Shunping He 2023Science China(Life Sciences)2023,66,7:0
14Sympatric or micro-allopatric speciation in a glacial lake?Genomic islands support neither显示文摘Apparent cases of sympatric speciation may actually be due to micro-allopatric or micro-parapatric speciation. One way to distinguish between these models is to examine the existence and nature of genomic islands of divergence, wherein divergent DNA segments are interspersed with low-divergence segments.Such islands should be rare or absent under micro-allopatric speciation but common in cases of speciation with gene flow.Sympatric divergence of endemic fishes is known from isolated saline, crater, postglacial, and ancient lakes. Two morphologically distinct cyprinid fishes,Gymnocypris eckloni scoliostomus(GS)and G.eckloni eckloni(GE),in a small glacial lake on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,Lake Sunmcuo, match the biogeographic criteria of sympatric speciation. In this study,we examined genome-wide variation in 46individuals from these two groups. The divergence time between the GS and GE lineages was estimated to be 20-60 Kya.We identified 54 large genomic islands(≥100 kb)of speciation, which accounted for 89.4%of the total length of all genomic islands. These islands harboured divergent genes related to olfactory receptors and olfaction signals that may play important roles in food selection and assortative mating in fishes.Although the genomic islands clearly indicated speciation with gene flow and rejected micro-allopatric speciation, they were too large to support the hypothesis of sympatric speciation.Theoretical and recent empirical studies suggested that continual gene flow in sympatry should give rise to many small genomic islands(as small as a few kilobases in size). Thus, the observed pattern is consistent with the extensive evidence on parapatric speciation,in which adjacent habitats facilitate divergent selection but also permit gene flow during speciation. We suggest that many,if not most,of the reported cases of sympatric speciation are likely to be micro-parapatric speciation.Ning Sun Liandong Yang Fei Tian Honghui Zeng Ziwen He Kai Zhao Cheng Wang Minghui Meng Chenguang Feng Chengchi Fang Wenqi Lv Jing Bo Yongtao Tang Xiaoni Gan Zuogang Peng Yiyu Chen Shunping He 2022National Science Review2022,9,12:0
15Repressing iron overload ameliorates central poststroke pain via the Hdac2-Kv1.2 axis in a rat model of hemorrhagic stroke显示文摘Thalamic hemorrhage can lead to the development of central post-stroke pain.Changes in histone acetylation levels, which are regulated by histone deacetylases, affect the excitability of neurons surrounding the hemorrhagic area. However, the regulato ry mechanism of histone deacetylases in central post-stroke pain remains unclea r.Here,we show that iron overload leads to an increase in histone deacetylase 2expression in damaged ventral posterolateral nucleus neurons.Inhibiting this increase restored histone H3 acetylation in the Kcna2 promoter region of the voltage-dependent potassium(Kv)channel subunit gene in a rat model of central post-stroke pain, thereby increasing Kcna2expression and relieving central pain. However,in the absence of nerve injury, increasing histone deacetylase 2 expression decreased Kcna2expression,decreased Kv current, increased the excitability of neurons in the ventral posterolateral nucleus area, and led to neuropathic pain symptoms. Moreover, treatment with the iron chelator deferiprone effectively reduced iron overload in the ventral posterolateral nucleus after intracerebral hemorrhage, reversed histone deacetylase 2 upregulation and Kv1.2 downregulation, and alleviated mechanical hypersensitivity in central post-stroke pain rats. These results suggest that histone deacetylase 2 upregulation and Kv1.2 downregulation, mediated by iron overload, are important factors in central post-stroke pain pathogenesis and co uld se rve as new to rgets for central poststroke pain treatment. He Fang Mengjie Li Jingchen Yang Shunping Ma Li Zhang Hongqi Yang Qiongyan Tang Jing Cao Weimin Yang 2024Neural Regeneration Research2024,19,12:0

17The shikimate pathway regulates programmed cell death显示文摘Programmed cell death(PCD)is essential for both plant development and stress responses including immunity. However, how plants control PCD is not well-understood.The shikimate pathway is one of the most important metabolic pathways in plants, but its relationship to PCD is unknown. Here,we show that the shikimate pathway promotes PCD in Arabidopsis. We identify a photoperiod-dependent lesion-mimic mutant named Lesion in short-day(lis),which forms spontaneous lesions in short-day conditions.Mapbased cloning and whole-genome resequencing reveal that LIS encodes MEE32,a bifunctional enzyme in the shikimate pathway.Metabolic analysis shows that the level of shikimate is dramatically increased in lis.Through genetic screenings, three suppressors of lis(slis)are identified and the causal genes are cloned.SLISes encode proteins upstream of MEE32 in the shikimate pathway.Furthermore, exogenous shikimate treatment causes PCD.Our study uncovers a link between the shikimate pathway and PCD,and suggests that the accumulation of shikimate is an alternative explanation for the action of glyphosate, the most successful herbicide.Xuerui Lu Shixi Shi Chong Wu Xueao Zheng Chenkun Yang Jie Luo Shunping Yan 2022Journal of Genetics and Genomics2022,49,10:0
