| 5 | Facile synthesis of ultrathin metal-organic framework nanosheets for Lewis acid catalysis显示文摘Ultrathin metalorganic framework (MOF) nanosheets are attracting great interest in catalysis due to their unique and intriguing two-dime nsional (2D) features. Although many progresses have been achieved, it is still highly desirable to develop novel strategies for controllable synthesis of the well-defined ultrathin MOF nanosheets. Herein we report a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-assisted route to synthesize the ultrathin Ni-MOF nanosheets characteristic of 1.5 nm in thickness, in which PVP is reacted with 2-aminoterephthalic acid (H2BDC-NH2) via formation of C=N bon d, followed by coord inatio n with Ni2+ io ns to form the ultrathi n MOF n anosheets. | 6 | Clinical features of seizures after cerebral venous sinus thrombosis and its effect on outcome among Chinese Han population显示文摘background and purpose Clinical features of epileptic seizures after cerebral venous sinus thrombosis(CVST)among Chinese patients are not known,and it is still controversial whether seizures would affect the outcome of CVST.Methods In a Chinese hospital-based study of consecutive patients with CVST between 2003 and 2015,we described the clinical features of seizures and determined the predictors of seizure onset using multivariable logistic regression analysis.We also compared the in-hospital case-fatality and short-term functional outcome(modified Rankin Scale(mRS)at discharge)in patients with versus without seizures using ordinal regression analysis.results Among 151 patients with CVST,52(34.4%)presented seizures,of which 42(80.8%)were generalised seizures.Male gender(OR 6.32,95% CI 2.06 to 19.35,p=0.001),motor deficits(OR 4.89,95% CI 1.52 to 15.68,p=0.008),intracerebral haemorrhage(OR 3.93,95% CI 1.16 to 13.26,p=0.027),cerebral infarction(OR 3.78,95% CI 1.15 to 12.36,p=0.029)and superior sagittal sinus thrombosis(OR 3.38,95% CI 91.16 to 9.86,p=0.026)were independent predictors for seizures.The overall in-hospital case-fatality rate was 2.0%(3/151),and 21(13.9%)had mRS>2 at discharge.Compared with patients without seizures,patients with seizures were more likely to have a worse outcome(p=0.02)at discharge,independent of age,gender,clinical presentation,clot burden and presence of parenchymal lesions.conclusions In Chinese Han patients,compared with patients without seizures,patients with seizures after CVST had a worse outcome.Risk factors such as male gender,paresis,parenchymal lesion and superior sagittal sinus thrombosis were independently associated with seizure onset after CVST.Generalised seizure was the main form of seizures after CVST,which was obviously different to seizures after strokes of arterial origin. | Hongyan Ding Yanan Xie Linxin Li Heling Chu Yuping Tang Qiang Dong Mei Cui | 2017 | Stroke & Vascular Neurology2017,2,4: | 8 |

| 9 | Bamboo charcoal enhances cellulase and urease activities during chicken manure composting:Roles of the bacterial community and metabolic functions显示文摘Microbial enzymes are crucial for material biotransformation during the composting process.In this study,we investigated the effects of adding bamboo charcoal(BC)(i.e.,at 5%,10%,and 20%corresponding to BC5,BC10,and BC20,respectively)on the enzyme activity levels during chicken manure composting.The results showed that BC10 could increase the cellulose and urease activities by 56%and 96%,respectively.The bacterial community structure in BC10 differed from those in the other treatments,and Luteivirga,Lactobacillus,Paenalcaligenes,Ulvibacter,Bacillus,Facklamia,Pelagibacterium,Sporosarcina,Cellvibrio,and Corynebacterium had the most important roles in composting.Compared with other treatments,BC10 significantly enhanced the average rates of degradation of carbohydrates(Dxylose(40%)andα-D-lactose(44%))and amino acids(L-arginine(16%),L-asparagine(14%),and L-threonine(52%)).We also explored the associations among the bacterial community and their metabolic functions with the changes in the activities of enzymes.Network analysis demonstrated that BC10 altered the co-occurrence patterns of the bacterial communities,where Ulvibacter and class Bacilli were the keystone bacterial taxa with high capacities for degrading carbon source,and they were related to increases in the activities of cellulase and urease,respectively.The results obtained in this study may help to further enhance the efficiency of composting. | Yanan Yin Chao Yang Jingrui Tang Jie Gu Haichao Li Manli Duan Xiaochang Wang Rong Chen | 2021 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,10: | 4 |
| 10 | Single-cell RNA sequencing of meiocytes and microspores reveals the involvement of the Rf4 gene in redox homeostasis of CMS-C maize显示文摘Normal microsporogenesis is determined by both nuclear and mitochondrial genes. In maize C-type cytoplasmic male sterility, it is unclear how the development of meiocytes and microspores is affected by the mitochondrial sterility gene and the nuclear restorer gene. In this study, we sequenced the transcriptomes of single meiocytes(tetrad stage) and early mononucleate microspores from sterile and restorer lines. The numbers of expressed genes varied in individual cells and fewer than half of the expressed genes were common to the same cell types. Four comparisons revealed 3379 differentially expressed genes(DEGs), with 277 putatively associated with mitochondria, 226 encoding transcription factors,and 467 possibly targeted by RF4. KEGG analysis indicated that the DEGs in the two lines at the tetrad stage were involved predominantly in carbon metabolism and in amino acid biosynthesis and metabolism, whereas the DEGs during the transition from the tetrad stage to the early mononucleate stage were associated mostly with regulation of protein metabolism, fatty acid metabolism, and anatomical structure morphogenesis. | 12 | Efficient inversions and duplications of mammalian regulatory DNA elements and gene clusters by CRISPR/Cas9显示文摘The human genome contains millions of DNA regulatory elements and a large number of gene clusters,most of which have not been tested experimentally.The clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats(CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated nuclease 9(Cas9)programed with a synthetic single-guide RNA(sgRNA)emerges as a method for genome editing in virtually any organisms.Here we report that targeted DNA fragment inversions and duplications could easily be achieved in human and mouse genomes by CRISPR with two sgRNAs.Specifically,we found that,in cultured human cells and mice,efficient precise inversions of DNA fragments ranging in size froma few tens of bp to hundreds of kb could be generated.In addition,DNA fragment duplications and deletions could also be generated by CRISPR through trans-allelic recombination between the Cas9-induced double-strand breaks(DSBs)on two homologous chromosomes(chromatids).Moreover,junctions of combinatorial inversions and duplications of the protocadherin(Pcdh)gene clusters induced by Cas9 with four sgRNAs could be detected.In mice,we obtained founders with alleles of precise inversions,duplications,and deletions of DNA fragments of variable sizes by CRISPR.Interestingly,we found that very efficient inversions were mediated by microhomology-mediated end joining(MMEJ)through short inverted repeats.We showed for the first time that DNA fragment inversions could be transmitted through germlines in mice.Finally,we applied this CRISPR method to a regulatory element of the Pcdha cluster and found a new role in the regulation of members of the Pcdhg cluster.This simple and efficient method should be useful in manipulating mammalian genomes to study millions of regulatory DNA elements as well as vast numbers of gene clusters. | Jinhuan Li Jia Shou YaGuo Yuanxiao Tang YonghuWu Zhilian Jia Yanan Zhai Zhifeng Chen Quan Xu Qiang Wu | 2015 | Journal of Molecular Cell Biology2015,7,4: | 4 |

| 14 | Nontargeted identification of peptides and disinfection byproducts in water显示文摘A broad range of organic compounds are known to exist in drinking water sources and serve as precursors of disinfection byproducts(DBPs).Epidemiological findings of an association of increased risk of bladder cancer with the consumption of chlorinated water has resulted in health concerns about DBPs.Peptides are thought to be an important category of DBP precursors in water.However,little is known about the actual presence of peptides and their DBPs in drinking water because of their high sample complexity and low concentrations.To address this challenge and identify peptides and non-chlorinated/chlorinated peptide DBPs from large sets of organic compounds in water,we developed a novel high throughput analysis strategy,which integrated multiple solid phase extraction(SPE),high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)separation,and non-target identification using precursor ion exclusion(PIE)high resolution mass spectrometry(MS).After MS analysis,structures of candidate compounds,particularly peptides,were obtained by searching against the Human Metabolome Database(HMDB).Using this strategy,we successfully detected 625 peptides(out of 17,205 putative compounds)and 617 peptides(out of 13,297)respectively in source and finished water samples.The source and finished water samples had 501 peptides and amino acids in common.The remaining 116 peptides and amino acids were unique to the finished water.From a subset of 30 putative compounds for which standards were available,25 were confirmed using HPLC-MS analysis.By analyzing the peptides identified in source and finished water,we successfully confirmed three disinfection reaction pathways that convert peptides into toxic DBPs. | Yanan Tang Ying Xu Feng Li Lindsay Jmaiff Steve E.Hrudey Xing-Fang Li | 2016 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,4: | 3 |

| 16 | Dietary ellagic acid ameliorated Clostridium perfringens-induced subclinical necrotic enteritis in broilers via regulating inflammation and cecal microbiota显示文摘Background: Subclinical necrotic enteritis(SNE), a common intestinal disease of broiler caused by Clostridium perfringens, could reduce production performance of broilers by chronic intestinal damage and poor absorption of nutrients. Ellagic acid(EA) has been reported to present antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties on human and animals in many aspects. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect and mechanism of EA in relieving SNE in broilers induced by C. perfringens.Results: C. perfringens challenge decreased body weight(BW), average daily gain(ADG), jejunal villi height/crypt depth(V/C) ratio, the activity of catalase(CAT) and the mRNA expression of zonula occludens 1(ZO-1) in jejunal mucosa of broilers. While feed conversion ratios(FCR), jejunal crypt depth(CD), the activities of myeloperoxidase(MPO) and diamine oxidase(DAO), as well as the concentrations of interleukin 6(IL-6), C-reactive protein(CRP) and procalcitonin(PCT) in serum, the activities of inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS) and lysozyme(LZM), the concentration of malondialdehyde(MDA), and the mRNA expressions of claudin-2, TNF-α, IL-1β, TLR-4, TLR-2, NF-κB,JAK3, STAT6 and iNOS in jejunal mucosa of broilers were increased by C. perfringens challenge. Dietary EA supplement relieved these adverse effects, and heightened jejunal villi height(VH), the concentration of D-xylose in plasma, activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD), and the mRNA expression of occludin in jejunal mucosa of broilers.The alpha diversity of cecal microbiota indicated that dietary EA supplement increased observed species and Shannon index. C. perfringens challenge increased the relative abundance of Firmicutes and decreased the relative abundance of Desulfobacterota in cecal microbiota. EA increased the relative abundance of Firmicutes in cecal microbiota. | 18 | Net primary productivity and its control of the Middle Jurassic peatlands: An example from the southern Junggar coalfield显示文摘The Jurassic is an important period of global coal formation, including the development of several large coalfields in central Asia and northern China. Individual seams within these peatlands represent sustained periods of terrestrial carbon accumulation and a key environmental indicator attributed to this record is the rate of carbon accumulation. Determining the rate of carbon accumulation requires a measure of time contained within the coal and this study aimed at determining the rate via the identification of Milankovitch orbital cycles using spectral analysis. Spectral analyses of geophysical data from two thick coal seams, No. 43(35.9 m) and No. 3(13.2 m), of the Middle Jurassic of the southern Junggar coalfield were conducted to identify significant signals of variations in ash content. The results showed that the variations in ash content of the coal showed spatial cycles at 0.2, 0.7 and 1.1 m^(-1), which were interpreted to represent 123 ka(eccentricity), 37.1 ka(obliquity), and 21.2 ka(precession) orbital periodicities, respectively. Using this timeframe, the depositional time of the No. 43 and No. 3 coal seams were calculated to be 876–970 and 322–357 ka, respectively. In combination with an understanding of carbon loss during coalification, the carbon accumulation rates of these Middle Jurassic peatlands were calculated to be 58.6–64.9 and60.3–66.8 g C m^(-2) a^(-1) for the No. 43 and No. 3 coal seams, respectively. Given that the net primary productivity(NPP) was 4.3 times the value of the carbon accumulation in a mid-latitude region of 40°–45°N, an NPP of 251.8–279.1 and259.1–287.1 g C m^(-2) a^(-1) was calculated for the No. 43 and No. 3 coal seams, respectively. In the context of the same paleolatitude(40°–45°N) and peat type, the NPP values of the Middle Jurassic strata in the study area were higher than those of the peatlands of the Holocene and Permian, and were similar to the NPP values of Early Cretaceous peatlands. Considering the NPP of a peatland is predominantly controlled by atmospheric CO_2 and O_2 levels and temperature, the lower content of CO_2 and an excessive O_2 level in the temporal atmosphere would lead to a decrease in peatland NPP. Therefore, it is inferred that the CO_2 level during the Middle Jurassic was higher than that of the icehouse Permian and Holocene periods, and it was similar to the CO_2 level of the greenhouse Cretaceous period. The results are consistent with the global CO_2 variation curve of Berner.
