| 5 | Anal canal gastrointestinal stromal tumors:Case report and literature review显示文摘Gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GIST)are an uncommon group of tumors of mesenchymal origin.GIST of the anal canal is extremely rare.At present,only 10cases of c-kit positive anal GIST have been reported in the literature.There is no widely accepted treatment approach for this neoplasia.Literature is sparse on imaging evaluation of anal canal GIST,usually described as a lesion in the intersphincteric space.We describe the case of a 73-year-old man with a mass in the anal canal,and no other symptoms.Endoanal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging showed a well circumscribed solid nodule in the intersphincteric space.The patient was treated by local excision.Gross pathological examination showed a 7 cm×3.5 cm×3cm mass,and histological examination showed a proliferation of spindle cells,with prominent nuclear palisading.The mitotic count was of 12 mitoses/50 HPF.The tumor was positive for KIT protein,CD34 and vimentin in the majority of cells,and negative for desmin and S100.A diagnosis of GIST,with high risk aggressive behavior was made.An abdomino-perineal resection was discussed,but refused.The follow-up included clinical evaluation and anal ultrasound.After 5 years the patient is well,with maintained continence and no evidence of local recurrence. | Nuno Carvalho Diogo Albergaria Rui Lebre Joo Giria Vitor Fernandes Helena Vidal Maria José Brito | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,1: | 1 |
| 6 | Hospitalizations and in-hospital mortality for inflammatory bowel disease in Brazil显示文摘BACKGROUND Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)is associated with complications,frequent hospitalizations,surgery and death.The introduction of biologic drugs into the therapeutic arsenal in the last two decades,combined with an expansion of immunosuppressant therapy,has changed IBD management and may have altered the profile of hospitalizations and in-hospital mortality(IHM)due to IBD.AIM To describe hospitalizations from 2008 to 2018 and to analyze IHM from 1998 to 2017 for IBD in Brazil.METHODS This observational,retrospective,ecological study used secondary data on hospitalizations for IBD in Brazil for 2008-2018 to describe hospitalizations and for 1998-2017 to analyze IHM.Hospitalization data were obtained from the Hospital Information System of the Brazilian Unified Health System and population data from demographic censuses.The following variables were analyzed:Number of deaths and hospitalizations,length of hospital stay,financial costs of hospitalization,sex,age,ethnicity and type of hospital admission.RESULTS There was a reduction in the number of IBD hospitalizations,from 6975 admissions in 1998 to 4113 in 2017(trend:y=-0.1682x+342.8;R^(2)=0.8197;P<0.0001).The hospitalization rate also decreased,from 3.60/100000 in 2000 to 2.17 in 2010.IHM rates varied during the 20-year period,between 2.06 in 2017 and 3.64 in 2007,and did not follow a linear trend(y=-0.0005049x+2.617;R^(2)=0,00006;P=0.9741).IHM rates also varied between regions,increasing in all but the southeast,which showed a decreasing trend(y=-0.1122x+4.427;R^(2)=0,728;P<0.0001).The Southeast region accounted for 44.29%of all hospitalizations.The Northeast region had the highest IHM rate(2.86 deaths/100 admissions),with an increasing trend(y=0.1105x+1.110;R^(2)=0.6265;P<0.0001),but the lowest hospitalization rate(1.15).The Midwest and South regions had the highest hospitalization rates(3.27 and 3.17,respectively).A higher IHM rate was observed for nonelective admissions(2.88),which accounted for 81%of IBD hospitalizations.The total cost of IBD hospitalizations in 2017 exhibited an increase of 37.5%compared to 2008.CONCLUSION There has been a notable reduction in the number of hospitalizations for IBD in Brazil over 20 years.IHM rates varied and did not follow a linear trend. | Ana Luiza Vilar Guedes Amanda Lopes Lorentz Larissa Fernandes de Almeida Rios Rios Beatriz Camara Freitas Adriano Gutemberg Neves Dias Ana Luísa Eckhard Uhlein Felipe Oliveira Vieira Neto Jobson Felipe Soares Jesus Túlio de SáNovaes Torres Raquel Rocha Vitor D Andrade Genoile Oliveira Santana | 2022 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Pharmacology and Therapeutics2022,13,1: | 0 |
| 7 | Abiotic stress on seed germination and plant growth of Zeyheria tuberculosa显示文摘Zeyheria tuberculosa(Vell.)Bureau ex Verl.is among the Brazilian flora threatened with extinction.It has high-quality wood and can be used to recover herbicidecontaminated areas.However,abiotic stresses can harm seed germination and seedling development under adverse conditions and need to be understood to improve autochthonous or indigenous biodiversity conservation and strengthen reforestation projects.This study evaluated the effects of temperature,water and saline stress on Z.tuberculosa seed germination and water stress on seedling growth.Three laboratory experiments evaluated germination under:(1)different temperatures(20,25,30,35 and 40℃);(2)different water potentials simulated with polyethylene glycol(PEG6000)at 25 and 30℃;and,(3)different osmotic potentials simulated with NaCl at 25 and 30℃.In addition,a greenhouse experiment subjected seedlings to five water regimes(20%,35%,50%,65%and 80%of maximum substrate water holding capacity).In the laboratory,seedling biometry and germination were evaluated,while physiological and morphological parameters were assessed in the greenhouse.Physiological potential of seeds increased at 25 and 30℃.Germination and vigor decreased as water and saline stresses increased.Germination tolerance thresholds for water and salt stresses were-0.6 and-0.4 MPa,respectively.In the greenhouse,the most restrictive water regimes reduced seedling physiological and morphological parameters.Seedling development was compromised at moisture levels below50%field capacity. | Robson Luis Silva de Medeiros Rinaldo Cesar de Paula Joao Vitor Oliveira de Souza Joao Pedro Peixoto Fernandes | 2023 | Journal of Forestry Research2023,34,5: | 0 |
