2Modeling Soil Organic Carbon Storage and Its Dynamics in Croplands of China显示文摘Soil organic carbon (SOC) is one of the centre issues related to not only soil fertility but also environmental safety. Assessing SOC dynamics in croplands has been a challenge in China for long due to the lack of appropriate methodologies and data sources. As an alternative approach for studying SOC dynamics, process-based models are adopted to meet the needs. In this paper, a process-based model, DeNitrification-DeComposition (DNDC), was applied to quantify the SOC storage and the spatial distribution in croplands of China in 2003, with the support of a newly compiled county-level soil/ climate/land use database. The simulated results showed that the total SOC storage in the top layer (0-30 cm) of the 1.18 × 108 ha croplands of China is 4.7-5.2 Pg C in 2003 with an average value of 4.95 Pg C. The SOC storage in the northeastern provinces (1.3 Pg C) accounts for about 1/4 of the whole national totals due to their dominantly fertile soils with high organic matter content. SOC density ranges from 3.9 to 4.4 kg C m-2, with an average of 4.2 kg C m-2, a level is much lower than the world average level. The model results also indicated that high rates of SOC losses occurred in the croplands with the most common cropping patterns in China as like single soybean > maize > paddy > cotton > winter wheat and corn rotation. The results reported in this paper showed that there was still a great potential for improving SOC status in most croplands of China by adopting proper farming practices and land-use pattern. 3Temperature and Precipitation Suitability Evaluation for the Winter Wheat and Summer Maize Cropping System in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain of China显示文摘The Huang-Huai-Hai Plain is the most important winter wheat and maize production region in China.In response to the increasing population pressure,the Chinese authorities strongly invested in improving the irrigation systems and increasing ground and surface water exploitation within the plain to increase the crop productivity.This resulted in a reduction of water resource availability and in turn indirectly affected the suitability of various agricultural ecosystems in the plain.The main purpose of this study was to review the suitability of temperature and precipitation for the winter wheat and summer maize cropping system in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain,in order to provide a preliminary irrigation scheme.This analysis provides a first attempt to enhance the water resource management as well as to increase the water use efficiency.For this aim,a GIS-based multicriteria analysis procedure has been developed consisting of(1) definition of objectives(evaluated entities) and database building;(2) definition of evaluation criteria;(3) standardization of the criteria;(4) combination of the criteria;(5) classification of the objectives;and(6) integration of the objectives.The land suitability classification maps were transformed into maps of required irrigation amounts for each growing stage of the winter wheat and summer maize cropping system.The study also exemplified the limitations and proposed future research activities that will improve the detail and accuracy of the evaluation results.Nguyen Thanh Tuan QIU Jian-jun Ann Verdoodt LI Hu Eric Van Ranst 2011Agricultural Sciences in China2011,10,2:12
4Effects of dietary supplementation with essential oils and protease on growth performance,antioxidation,inflammation and intestinal function of weaned pigs显示文摘This experiment evaluated the impacts of essential oils(EO)and protease(PRO),independently or in combination,on growth performance,antioxidation,inflammation and intestinal function of weaned pigs.One hundred and sixty weaned pigs(21 d of age,BW of 6.74±0.20 kg)were randomly divided into 4 treatments with 8 replicate pens of 5 pigs per pen.Dietary treatments included the following:1)control diet(CON),2)CON with 300 mg/kg essential oils(EO),3)CON with 500 mg/kg protease(PRO),4)CON with 300 mg/kg essential oil and 500 mg/kg protease(EO + PRO).On d 8,one pig from each penwas selected for sampling.The remaining pigs were fed for an additional week and growth performance was monitored during this period.Dietary treatments had no marked effects(P>0.05)on the growth performance of pigs.However,pigs receiving EO diet had higher(P<0.05)serumglutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)activity,and tended to decrease(P=0.063)serum concentration of tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-a).In addition,pigs receiving EO diet had higher(P<0.05)abundances of phylum Actinobacteria,and genera Bifidobacterium,and lower(P<0.05)phylum Bacteroidetes and genera Alloprevotella in colonic digesta.Pigs receiving PRO diet decreased(P<0.05)the serum concentration of malondialdehyde(MDA)and diamine oxidase activity,increased(P<0.05)the villus height and the ratio of villus height to crypt depth in duodenum,increased sucrase activity in jejunal mucosa,and also increased the abundance of phylum Actinobacteria in colonic digesta.Furthermore,the synergistic effects of EO and PROwas observed(P<0.05)for pigs with decreasing serum TNF-a concentration and increasing serum GSH-Px activity.Collectively,the results indicated that dietary supplementation of EO and PRO had no significant effects on growth performance of weaned pigs.EO diet appeared to improve antioxidant activity and intestinal microbiota,while PRO diet improved intestinal morphology and digestive enzyme activity,and there was a synergistic effect of EO and PRO on reducing inflammatory parameters in weaned pigs.Xie Peng Qiang Zhou Cheng Wu Jian Zhao Quan Tan Ying He Liang Hu Zhengfeng Fang Yan Lin Shengyu Xu Bin Feng Jian Li Yong Zhuo Chris Van Ginneken Xuemei Jiang De Wu Lianqiang Che 2022Animal Nutrition2022,,2:8

6Modeling the Impacts of Soil Organic Carbon Content of Croplands on Crop Yields in China显示文摘This study quantified the impacts of soil organic carbon(SOC) content on the grain yield of crops using a biogeochemical model(DNDC,denitrification-decomposition).Data on climate,soil properties,and farming management regimes of cropping systems were collected from six typical agricultural zones(northeast,north,northwest,mid-south,east and southwest regions of China,respectively) and integrated into a GIS database to support the model runs.According to the model,if the initial SOC content in the cropland was increased by 1 g C kg-1,the crop yield may be increased by 176 kg ha-1 for maize in the northeast region,454 kg ha-1 for a maize-wheat rotation in the north region,328 kg ha-1 for maize in the northwest region,185 kg ha-1 for single-rice in the mid-south region,266 kg ha-1 for double-rice in east region,and 229 kg ha-1 for rice and wheat rotation in southwest region.There is a great potential for enhancing the crop yield by improving the SOC content in each region of China.QIU Jian-jun WANG Li-gang LI HU TANG Hua-jun LI Chang-sheng Eric Van Ranst 2009Agricultural Sciences in China2009,8,4:6
7Preferential binding between intracellular organic matters and Al_(13) polymer to enhance coagulation performance显示文摘Coagulation is the best available method for removing intracellular organic matter(IOM),which is released from algae cells and is an important precursor to disinfection by-products in drinking water treatment. To gain insight into the best strategy to optimize IOM removal, the coagulation performance of two Al salts, i.e., aluminum chloride(AlCl_3) and polyaluminum chloride(PACl, containing 81.2% Al_(13)), was investigated to illuminate the effect of Al species distribution on IOM removal. PACl showed better removal efficiency than AlCl_3 with regard to the removal of turbidity and dissolved organic carbon(DOC), owing to the higher charge neutralization effect and greater stability of pre-formed Al_(13) species. High pressure size exclusion chromatography analysis indicated that the superiority of PACl in DOC removal could be ascribed to the higher binding affinity between Al_(13) polymer and the low and medium molecular weight(MW) fractions of IOM. The results of differential log-transformed absorbance at 254 and 350 nm indicated more significant formation of complexes between AlCl_3 and IOM, which benefits the removal of tryptophan-like proteins thereafter. 8Phylogenetic Analysis of Brine Shrimp (Artemia) in China Using DNA Barcoding显示文摘DNA barcoding is a powerful approach for characterizing species of organisms,especially those with almost identical morphological features,thereby helping to to establish phylogenetic relationships and reveal evolutionary histories. In this study,we chose a 648-bp segment of the mitochondrial gene,cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI),as a standard barcode region to establish phylogenetic relation-ships among brine shrimp (Artemia) species from major habitats around the world and further focused on the biodiversity of Artemia species in China,especially in the Tibetan Plateau. Samples from five major salt lakes of the Tibetan Plateau located at altitudes over 4,000 m showed clear differences from other Artemia pop-ulations in China. We also observed two consistent amino acid changes,153A/V and 183L/F,in the COI gene between the high and low altitude species in China. 11A prototype web-based analysis platform for drought monitoring and early warning显示文摘It has long been recognized that an effective drought monitoring and early warning system,which provides functions for real-time condition monitoring and prediction,risk assessment,information dissemination and response recommendation,is very important for the preparedness for and mitigation of drought impacts.In this article,we review the currently existing drought monitor and early warning systems,discuss applicable remote sensing datasets and drought indicators and present the development of a web-based quasi-real-time Global Drought Monitoring&Analysis Platform(Web-GDMAP).The Web-GDMAP is built upon a series of indicators derived from multi-source satellite remote sensing data and various other sources of data.From a technical perspective,the Web-GDMAP system includes a series of components from data storage,model implementation and distribution,to client-side visualization and user intuitive interaction.From a theoretical perspective,the Web-GDMAP system integrates multi-indicators on different aspects of drought,including anomalies in precipitation,anomalies in land surface thermal and vegetation conditions,water deficit of soil and plants,etc.Several case studies on applying the developed Web-GDMAP in the Asian region are demonstrated.Further improvements and perspectives are discussed.Mattijn van Hoek Jie Zhou Li Jia Jing Lu Chaolei Zheng Guangcheng Hu Massimo Menenti 2020International Journal of Digital Earth2020,13,7:2
