| 1 | Receiver function analysis for seismic structure of the crust and uppermost mantle in the Liupanshan area, China显示文摘A portable broadband seismic array was deployed from the northeast Tibetan Plateau to the southwest Ordos block, China. The seismic structure of the crust and uppermost mantle of the Liupanshan area is obtained using receiver function analysis of teleseismic body waves. The crustal thickness and Poisson's ratios are estimated by stacking the weighted amplitudes of receiver functions. Our results reveal complex seismic phases in the Liupanshan area, implying intense deformation at the boundary between the Tibetan Plateau and the Ordos block. The average crustal thickness is 51.5 km in the northeast Tibetan Plateau, 53.5 km in the Liupan Mountain and 50 km in the southwest Ordos block, resulting in a concave Moho beneath the Liupan Mountain. The Poisson's ratio of the Liupanshan area varies between 0.27-0.29, higher than the value of 0.25-0.26 to the east and west of the Liupan Mountain, suggesting partial melting in the lower crust. | 2 | Efficacy of a Chinese herbal formula on hepatitis B e antigenpositive chronic hepatitis B patients显示文摘BACKGROUND No guideline recommends antiviral therapy for hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg)-positive chronic hepatitis B patients with persistently normal alanine aminotransferase levels and a high hepatitis B virus(HBV)DNA viral load.AIM To evaluate the feasibility and safety of a Chinese herbal formula as a therapeutic option for chronic HBV infection.METHODS In total,395 patients(30–65 years old)with confirmed HBeAg-positive chronic hepatitis B infection and persistently normal alanine aminotransferase were randomized to receive either Chinese herbal formula or placebo for 96 wk.Endpoints to evaluate therapeutic efficacy included:(1)HBV DNA levels decreased to less than 4 log10 IU/mL at weeks 48 and 96;and(2)HBeAg clearance and seroconversion rates at weeks 48 and 96.RESULTS HBV DNA levels≤4 log10 IU/mL were 10.05%at week 48 and 18.59%at week 96 in the treatment group.The HBeAg clearance and conversion rates were 8.54%and 8.04%at week 48 and 16.08%and 14.57%at week 96,respectively.However,HBV DNA levels≤4 log10 IU/mL were 2.55%and 2.55%at weeks 48 and 96,respectively,and the HBeAg clearance rates were 3.06%and 5.61%at weeks 48 and 96,respectively,in the control group.The quantitative hepatitis B surface antigen and HBeAg levels at baseline and changes during the treatment period as well as the alanine aminotransferase elevation at weeks 12 and 24 were strong predictors of HBeAg clearance.CONCLUSION High rates of HBV DNA reduction,HBeAg clearance and seroconversion could be achieved with Chinese herbal formula treatments,and the treatments were relatively safe for HBeAg-positive chronic hepatitis B-infected patients with persistently normal alanine aminotransferase.The ability of the compound to modulate host immune function probably contributed to this effect. | Yu-Feng Xing Chun-Shan Wei Tian-Ran Zhou Dan-Ping Huang Wei-Chao Zhong Bin Chen Hua Jin Xiao-Yu Hu Zhi-Yun Yang Qing He Kai-Ping Jiang Jun-Min Jiang Zhen-Bin Hu Xin Deng Fan Yang Feng-Yi Li Gang Zhao Li-Chun Wang Yu-Qiang Mi Zuo-Jiong Gong Peng Guo Jian-Hua Wu Wei-Qun Shi Hong-Zhi Yang Da-Qiao Zhou Guang-Dong Tong | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020，26，30： | 7 |
| 3 | PCDD/Fs in soil around a hospital waste incinerator:comparison after three years of operation显示文摘Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans(PCDD/Fs) can be formed during the cooling of flue gases in waste incinerator.These pollutants are either in the gas phase or attached to the fine particles,escaping dust collection.After stack emission,they are slowly oxidized photochemically(gas phase),or eventually are deposited(dry and wet deposition of particulate) in earth surface.In 2007 and 2010,11 soil samples were collected in the vicinity of a hospital waste incinerator(HWI),prior and after its startup.In order to find out any variation of PCDD/Fs in soil,in brief dioxins,their concentrations were analyzed by high-resolution gas chromatography with high-resolution mass spectrometry(HRGC/HRMS).Compared to the baseline survey(2007),PCDD/Fs in soil significantly increased,by average,+81.6% in total PCDD/Fs and +132.7% in international toxic equivalency(I-TEQ) unit.By principal component analysis(PCA),both the PCDD/Fs homologue and the HxCDF isomer profile in soil were found to become more similar with fly ash.Generally,this incinerator influences the soil only in a limited area.More comprehensive supervision,stricter management and more advanced technology should be implemented in this plant to reduce pollutants emission,even though the level of PCDD/Fs in soil is quite low at present. | Xiaodong Li Mi Yan Jie Yang Tong Chen Shengyong Lu Jianhua Yan | 2012 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2012，24，4： | 6 |
| 4 | Inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 activity in subchondral bone modifies a subtype of osteoarthritis显示文摘Osteoarthritis(OA) causes the destruction of joints. Its pathogenesis is still under investigation, and there is no effective diseasemodifying therapy. Here, we report that elevated cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) expression in the osteocytes of subchondral bone causes both spontaneous OA and rheumatoid arthritis(RA). The knockout of COX-2 in osteocytes or treatment with a COX-2 inhibitor effectively rescues the structure of subchondral bone and attenuates cartilage degeneration in spontaneous OA(STR/Ort)mice and tumor necrosis factor-α transgenic RA mice. Thus, elevated COX-2 expression in subchondral bone induces both OAassociated and RA-associated joint cartilage degeneration. | 5 | High-throughput sequencing exclusively identified a novel Torque teno virus genotype in serum of a patient with fatal fever显示文摘Torque teno virus(TTV) has been found to be prevalent world-wide in healthy populations and in patients with various diseases, but its etiological role has not yet been determined. Using high-throughput unbiased sequencing to screen for viruses in the serum of a patient with persistent high fever who died of suspected viral infection and prolonged weakness, we identified the complete genome sequence of a TTV(isolate Hebei-1). The genome of TTV-Hebei-1 is 3649 bp in length, encoding four putative open reading frames, and it has a G+C content of 49%. Genomic comparison and a BLASTN search revealed that the assembled genome of TTV-Hebei-1 represented a novel isolate, with a genome sequence that was highly heterologous to the sequences of other reported TTV strains. A phylogenetic tree constructed using the complete genome sequence showed that TTV-Hebei-1 and an uncharacterized Taiwan Residents strain, TW53A37, constitute a new TTV genotype. The patient was strongly suspected of carrying a viral infection and died eventually without any other possible causes being apparent. No virus other than the novel TTV was identified in his serum sample. | 8 | Prognostic and incremental value of computed tomography-based radiomics from tumor and nodal regions in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma显示文摘Objective:This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of preoperative radiomics and establish an integrated model for esophageal squamous cell cancer(ESCC).Methods:A total of 931 patients were retrospectively enrolled in this study(training cohort,n=624;validation cohort,n=307).Radiomics features were obtained by contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CT)before esophagectomy.A radiomics index was set based on features of tumor and reginal lymph nodes by using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator(LASSO)Cox regression.Prognostic nomogram was built based on radiomics index and other independent risk factors.The prognostic value was assessed by using Harrell’s concordance index,time-dependent receiver operating characteristics and Kaplan-Meier curves.Results:Twelve radiomic features from tumor and lymph node regions were identified to build a radiomics index,which was significantly associated with overall survival(OS)in both training cohort and validation cohort.The radiomics index was highly correlated with clinical tumor-node-metastasis(cTNM)and pathologic TNM(pTNM)stages,but it demonstrated a better prognostic value compared with cTNM stage and was almost comparable with pTNM stage.Multivariable Cox regression showed that the radiomics index was an independent prognostic factor.An integrated model was constructed based on gender,preoperative serum sodium concentration,pTNM and the radiomics index for clinical usefulness.The integrated model demonstrated discriminatory ability better compared with the traditional clinical-pathologic model and pTNM alone,indicating incremental value for prognosis.Conclusions:CT-based radiomics for primary tumor and reginal lymph nodes was sufficient in predicting OS for patients with ESCC.The integrated model demonstrated incremental value for prognosis and was robust for clinical applications. | Bangrong Cao Kun Mi Wei Dai Tong Liu Tianpeng Xie Qiang Li Jinyi Lang Yongtao Han Lin Peng Qifeng Wang | 2022 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2022，34，2： | 3 |
