| 1 | MRI of magnetically labeled mesenchymal stem cells in hepatic failure model显示文摘AIM:To track intravascularly transplanted mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) labeled with superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) by using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in an experimental rabbit model of hepatic failure.METHODS:Human MSCs labeled with FDA-approved SPIO particles (Feridex) were transplanted via the mes-enteric vein into rabbits (n=16) with carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatic failure.Magnetic resonance (MR) examinations were performed with a 3.0 T clinical scanner immediately before and 2 h and 1,3,and 7 d after transplantation.Signal intensity (SI) changes on T2weighted MRI were measured,and correlation between MR findings and histomorphologic findings was also investigated.RESULTS:SI on T2-weighted MRI decreased significantly in the liver 2 h after injection of human MSCs and returned gradually to the levels found before injection in 7 d.Changes in SI in the liver at 2 h,1,3,and 7 d were 41.87% ± 9.63%,10.42% ± 4.3%,5.12% ± 1.9%,3.75% ± 1.2%,respectively (P < 0.001).Histologic analyses confirmed the presence of MSCs in the liver,localized mainly in the sinusoids in early period (2 h and 1 d) and concentrated to the border zone in late period (3 and 7 d).The number of iron-positive cells in the liver at 2 h and on 1,3 and 7 d after transplantation was 29.2 ± 4.8,10.1 ± 3.7,6.7 ± 2.2,and 5.8 ± 2.1,respectively (P=0.013).CONCLUSION:Intravascularly injected SPIO-labeled MSCs in an experimental rabbit model of hepatic failure can be detected and followed with MRI. | Kyu Ri Son Se Young Chung Hyo-Cheol Kim Hoe Suk Kim Seung Hong Choi Jeong Min Lee Woo Kyung Moon | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010，16，44： | 4 |
| 2 | Risk factors for tuberculosis after gastrectomy in gastric cancer显示文摘AIM: To examine incidence of tuberculosis(TB) in gastrectomy patients and investigate the risk factors for developing TB after gastrectomy in patients with gastric cancer.METHODS: A retrospective cohort study of gastrectomy patients with gastric cancer was performed at a university-affiliated hospital in Seoul, South Korea between January 2007 and December 2009. We reviewed patient medical records and collected data associated with the risk of TB, surgery, and gastric cancer. Standardized incidence ratios(SIRs) of TB were calculated to compare the incidence of TB in gastrectomy patients with that in the general Korean population, and risk factors for TB after gastrectomies were analyzed.RESULTS: Among the 1776 gastrectomy patients, 0.9%(16/1776) developed post-gastrectomy TB, with an incidence of 223.7 cases per 100000 patients per year. The overall incidence of TB in gastrectomy patients, adjusted by sex and age, was significantly higher thanthat in the general population(SIR = 2.22, 95%CI: 1.27-3.60). Previous TB infection [odds ratio(OR) = 7.1, P < 0.001], lower body mass index(BMI)(kg/m2; OR = 1.21, P = 0.043) and gastrectomy extent(total gastrectomy vs subtotal gastrectomy)(OR = 3.48, P = 0.017) were significant risk factors for TB after gastrectomy in a multivariate analysis.CONCLUSION: TB incidence after gastrectomy is higher than that in the general population. | 3 | Short-term overlap lamivudine treatment with adefovir dipivoxil in patients with lamivudine-resistant chronic hepatitis B显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of short-term overlap lamivudine therapy with adefovir in patients with lamivudine-resistant and nave chronic hepatitis B,we compared patients receiving overlap therapy with those receiving adefovir alone. METHODS:Eighty patients who had received lamivudine treatment for various periods and had a lamivudine- resistant liver function abnormality were enrolled.Forty of these patients received adefovir treatment combined with lamivudine treatment for≥2 mo,while the other 40 received adefovir alone.We assessed the levels of hepatitis B virus(HBV)DNA at 0,12 and 48 wk and serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT)levels after 0,12, 24 and 48 wk of adefovir treatment in each group. RESULTS:We found serum ALT became normalized in 72(87.5%)of the 80 patients,and HBV DNA decreased by≥2 log10 copies/mL in 60(75%)of the 80 patients at the end of a 48-wk treatment.HBV DNA levels were not significantly different between the groups.The improvements in serum ALT were also not significantly different between the two groups. | 8 | Phytogenic feed additives alleviate pathogenic Escherichia coli-induced intestinal damage through improving barrier integrity and inhibiting inflammation in weaned pigs显示文摘Background:This study was conducted to investigate the effects of each phytogenic feed additive(PFA;PFA1,bitter citrus extract;PFA2,a microencapsulated blend of thymol and carvacrol;PFA3,a mixture of bitter citrus extract,thymol,and carvacrol;PFA4,a premixture of grape seed,grape marc extract,green tea,and hops;PFA5,fenugreek seed powder)on the growth performance,nutrient digestibility,intestinal morphology,and immune response in weaned pigs infected with Escherichia coli(E.coli).Results:A total of 634-week-old weaned pigs were placed in individual metabolic cages and assigned to seven treatment groups.The seven treatments were as follows:1)NC;basal diet without E.coli challenge,2)PC;basal diet with E.coli challenge,3)T1;PC+0.04%PFA1,4)T2;PC+0.01%PFA2,5)T3;PC+0.10%PFA3,6)T4;PC+0.04%PFA4,7)T5;PC+0.10%PFA5.The experiments lasted in 21 d,including 7 d before and 14 d after the first E.coli challenge.In the E.coli challenge treatments,all pigs were orally inoculated by dividing a total of 10 mL of E.coli F18 for 3 consecutive days.The PFA-added groups significantly increased(P<0.05)average daily gain and feed efficiency and decreased(P<0.05)the fecal score at d 0 to 14 post-inoculation(PI).Tumor necrosis factorαwas significantly lower(P<0.05)in the PFA-added groups except for T1 in d 14 PI compared to the PC treatment.The T3 had a higher(P<0.05)immunoglobulin G and immunoglobulin A concentration compared to the PC treatment at d 7 PI.Also,T3 showed significantly higher(P<0.05)villus height:crypt depth and claudin 1 expression in ileal mucosa,and significantly downregulated(P<0.05)the expression of calprotectin compared to the PC treatment.Conclusions:Supplementation of PFA in weaned pigs challenged with E.coli alleviated the negative effects of E.coli and improved growth performance.Among them,the mixed additive of bitter citrus extract,thymol,and carvacrol showed the most effective results,improving immune response,intestinal morphology,and expression of tight junctions. | Se Yeon Chang Min Ho Song Ji Hwan Lee Han Jin Oh Yong Ju Kim Jae Woo An Young Bin Go Dong Cheol Song Hyun AhCho Seung Yeol Cho Dong Jun Kim Mi Suk Kim Hyeun Bum Kim Jin Ho Cho | 2023 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2023，14，1： | 1 |
