Increased Expression of Intercellular Adhesion Molecule-1,Vascular Cellular Adhesion Molecule-1 and Leukocyte Common Antigen in Diabetic Rat Retina显示文摘Purpose: To understand the expression and distribution of intercellular adhesion molecule- 1(ICAM- 1),vascular cellular adhesion molecule- 1 (VCAM- 1)and CD45 (Leukocyte Common Antigen) in the control nondiabetic and various courses of diabetic rats retina. To explore the role of adhesion molecules (Ams) and the adhesion of leukocytes to vascular endothelial cells via Ams in diabetic retinopathy(DR).Methods: Sixty healthy adult male Wistar rats were randomly divided into diabetic groups(induced by Streptozotocin, STZ) and normal control groups. Rats in these two groups were further randomly divided into 3, 7, 14, 30, 90 and 180 days-group,including 5 rats respectively. The immunohistochemical studies of ICAM-1, VCAM-1 and CD45 were carried out in the retinal digest preparations or retinal paraffin sections, and the results were analyzed qualitatively, semi-quantitatively.Results: No positive reaction of VCAM-1 was found, and weak reactions of ICAM-1,CD45 were found in nondiabetic rats retina. The difference of 6 control groups had no statistical significance(P > 0.05). The increased ICAM-1 and CD45 staining pattern were detectable 3 days after diabetes induction, and a few VCAM-1 positive cells were observed in the retinal blood capillaries. The difference of diabetes and control is significant( P < 0.05).Following the course, the expressions of ICAM-1, VCAM-1 and CD45 were increasingly enhanced, reaching a peak at the 14th day. Conclusion: Increased expression of ICAM-1, VCAM-1 and leukocytes adhering and stacking in retinal capillaries are the very early events in DR. Coherence of expression and distribution of the three further accounts for it is the key point for the onset of DR that Ams mediates leukocytes adhesion and endothelial cell injury.Ningyan Bai, Shibo Tang~#, Jing Ma, Yan Luo, Shaofeng Lin Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou 510060, China 2003Eye Science2003,19,3:4
Genome Sequence of a Marine Carotenoid Producing Yeast Rhodotorula mucilaginosa CYJ03显示文摘Carotenoids are valuable pigments that have been widely used in food, pharmaceutical, animal breeding and cosmetics industries.Due to the increasing demand for carotenoids of natural origin, the trend for production of carotenoids by red yeast has become popular.Strain Rhodotorula mucilaginosa CYJ03 was isolated from northern Yellow Sea of China for its carotenoid producing potential. It was found that the whole genome of CYJ03 was 19.03 Mb in size and contained 6301 protein-coding genes including a gene cluster for the carotenoids biosynthesis. The genome sequence would be valuable for exploring the potential biological properties of CYJ03,as well as for facilitating the molecular genetic analysis and the manipulation of carotenoids accumulation in this strain, and for the development of it as an engineered host for carotenoid production.TANG Wei WANG Yue CAI Yali LIU Shibo ZHANG Jun HE Zengguo 2020Journal of Ocean University of China2020,19,2:3

Management of Post-traumatic Aniridia with Retinal Detachment显示文摘Purpose: To reconstruct the anatomic and functional impairment in patients with post-traumatic aniridia, aphakia, and retinal detachment. Methods: Four patients with unilateral aniridia and aphakia as well as retinal detachment as results of severe eye injuries underwent scleral buckling, vitrectomy, membrane peeling, endolaser photocoagulation, silicone oil or gas temponade, combined with iris diaphragm-IOL implantation. Results: All four patients achieved successfully anatomic and functional reconstruction after surgery. During five to 22 months postoperative follow-up, all retinas remained attached. The final visual acuity increased from finger counting to 0.1 ~ 0.3. Conclusions: The combination of vitreoretinal surgery and iris diaphrgm-IOL implantation is an effective method for post-traumatic aniridia, aphakia and traumatic retinal detachment. It could ameliorate photophobia and improve the biocular vision.Furthermore, artificial iris diaphragm implantation could prevent silicone oil-endothelia contact and salvage silicone keratopathy. 6The Preliminary Report of Pathological Changes of Epiretinal Membranes and Internal Limiting Membrane Removed during Idiopathic Macular Hole Surgery显示文摘Purpose:To investigate the pathological changes of epiretinal membranes(ERM)and internal limiting membrane (ILM) removed during idiopathic macular hole surgery. Methods:Ten consecutive patients with a unilateral idiopathic macular hole underwent pars plana vitrectomy(PPV) with the surgical removal of the ERMs overlying the hole and ILM surrounding the hole. The pathological features of the excised tissues were examined under the microscope. Results:According to the morphological changes, four ERMs showed cellular elements which looked like glia cells, macrophages, plasma cells, lymphocytes and fibroblast cells. Two of the ILM appeared as transparent membranes without cellular elements. The other eight ILM showed cellular elements on the transparent membranes. Conclusion: Our study supports the hypothesis that the tangential traction of vitreous and proliferative cellular elements on the inner surface of ILM causes idiopathic macular holes. Removal of the posterior cortical vitreous, ILM and proliferative cellular tissue is a valid treatment for IMH.Jiaqing Li, Shibo Tang, Yan Luo, Jie Zhang, Shaofen LinZhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou 510060, China 2002眼科学报2002,18,3:1
Experimental Study on the Effect of Perfluorodecalin on Rabbit Corneas显示文摘Purpose: To study the effects of perfluorodecalin on the cornea of the rabbit eyes. Methods: Perfluorodecalin (0.05 ml/each) was injected into the anterior chambers of eighteen rabbit eyes. Corneal morphology and endothelial cells were monitored clinically by slit-lamp biomicroscope and specular microscope for 26 weeks. Animals were sacrificed in 1 st, 2nd, 4th, 10th, 16th, 22nd, and 26th week after injection, respectively, and the corneas were examined under the light microscope. Results: Perfluorodecalin droplets looking like “ fish eggs ” were found at about 1/4-1/2 of the corneal height in the inferior anterior chamber. Corneal opacification on the area contacted with perfluorodecalin was observed in five eyes five weeks after injection, and all in the 22nd week. Mutton fat KPs in one eye were seen in the 6th week firstly, and in all eyes in the 7th week. Corneal pannus formation in one eye was present in the 4th week, two eyes in the 5th week and three eyes in the 6th week. Retrocorneal fibrous membrane in one eye was detected at the 6th week and 3 eyes at the 7th week respectively. After injection of perfluorodecalin, endothelial cell density was sighificantly decreased (2789 ± 192 vs. 2341 ± 658, P < O. O1 ) and corneal thickness was increased. Conclusions: Perfluorodecalin injected into anterior chamber can lead to corneal damage and inflammatory reaction. 8AB001. Vision impairment & repairment in diabetes显示文摘With the development of global industrialization, urbanization and changes of people’s lifestyle,Diabetes Mellitus,DM has become a serious worldwide health issue. The prevalence of diabetes in China is more than 10%.Due to the huge population base,China has surpassed the U.S.and India, becoming the country with the largest diabetic population in the world.Diabetic retinopathy(DR)is one of the most common complications of DM.The latest epidemiological survey shows that 17.8-29.2%of China’s diabetes patients developed DR,and it has become the leading cause of blindness in adults over the age of 40.Despite the continued emergence of new medicine and treatment in the past ten years, and a large number of global clinical trials have been carried out,we still couldn’t prevent the occurrence and development of DR.Microvascular damage caused by DM has been a top priority in the prevention and treatment of diabetic complications.Chinese government attaches great importance to the prevention and treatment of DR and has included it into China’s plan of the prevention and treatment of blindness. In this presentation,I’m going to focus on the pathogenesis of DR,especially the relationship between immune inflammatory response and DR.Major challenges and solutions in clinical treatment were discussed as well.Shibo Tang 2017Annals of Eye Science2017,,1:0

Identifying spatiotemporal information of the point pollutant source indoors based on the adjoint-regularization method显示文摘Fast and accurate identification of the pollutant source location and release rate is important for improving indoor air quality. From the perspective of public health, identification of the airborne pathogen source in public buildings is particularly important for ensuring people’s safety and health. The existing adjoint probability method has difficulty in distinguishing the temporal source, and the optimization algorithm can only analyze a few potential sources in space. This study proposed an algorithm combining the adjoint-pulse and regularization methods to identify the spatiotemporal information of the point pollutant source in an entire room space. We first obtained a series of source-receptor response matrices using the adjoint-pulse method in the room based on the validated CFD model, and then used the regularization method and composite Bayesian inference to identify the release rate and location of the dynamic pollutant source. The results showed that the MAPEs(mean absolute percentage errors)of estimated source intensities were almost less than 15%,and the source localization success rates were above 25/30 in this study. This method has the potential to be used to identify the airborne pathogen source in public buildings combined with sensors for disease-specific biomarkers.Yuanqi Jing Fei Li Zhonglin Gu Shibo Tang 2023Building Simulation2023,16,4:0
Macrophages in Human Epiretinal and Vitreal Membranes in Patients with Proliferative Intraocular Disorders显示文摘Purpose: Macrophages are versatile cells and have been known as a cellular component of epiretinal membranes of proliferative intraocular disorders (PID). However, the origin and functions of these cells in the membranes are not yet clear. In the present study we investigated the characterization of macrophages/monocytes in various types of human epiretinal membranes from patients with proliferative vitreortinopathy (PVR) , proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and ocular perforating injury by means of immunohistochemical techniques. Methods: A total of 49 epiretinal membranes of PID in which 24 were PDR specimens, 17 were PVR and 8 were proliferations after perforating eye injury were studied. Monoclonal antibodies against human macrophages, monocytes, HLA-DR antigen and interleukin-1 (IL-1) were used. The alkaline phosphatase anti-alkaline phosphatase (APAAP) technique was performed. Results: The results showed that 19 out of 24 PDR specimens (79%), 15 out of 17 PVR specimens (88%) and 7 out of 8Shibo Tang, Rulong Gao, De-zheng WuZhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences, Guangzhou 510060, China 1996Eye Science1996,16,1:0
Pneumatic webbed soft gripper for unstructured grasping显示文摘Grasping unstructured and fragile objects such as food and fruits is a great challenge for robots.Being naturally different from the traditional rigid robot, soft robotics provide highly promising choices with their intrinsic flexibility and compliance to objects.Inspired by duck foot and octopus tentacle,a pneumatic webbed soft gripper was proposed, which is consisted of four multi-chambered fingers and four webs.Due to its silicone body and soft web structure, the developed soft gripper can naturally adapt, grasp and hold delicate and unstructured objects.Compressed air inflated into the three chambers of the finger actuates the silicone body and performs inflection and extension. The silicone web follows the motion of four fingers, forming a semi-closed grasping configuration. The fingers were fabricated with silicone rubber and constraint spring by casting process. The web was cast around the fingers. The inflecting motion was modeled via the pneumatic principle and geometrical analysis. The dynamic properties of the finger were tested by step and sinusoidal signals. And the grasping performances for different objects, such as egg, strawberry, candy, and knife, were also demonstrated by experiments. The proposed soft gripper performed stably in response to a 0.4 Hz reference sinusoidal signal. The bionic structure greatly improves the stability and reliability of grasping, particularly for unstructured and fragile objects. Moreover, the webs ensure the grasping for multiple objects in one snatch, especially suitable for agricultural products and food processing.Shibo Cai Chun’e Tang Lufeng Pan Guanjun Bao Wenyu Bai Qinghua Yang 2021International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2021,14,4:0
Lycium barbarum glycopeptide(wolfberry extract)slows N-methyl-N-nitrosourea-induced degradation of photoreceptors显示文摘Photoreceptor cell degeneration leads to blindness, for which there is currently no effective treatment. Our previous studies have shown that Lycium barbarum(L. barbarum) polysaccharide(LBP) protects degenerated photoreceptors in rd1, a transgenic mouse model of retinitis pigmentosa. L. barbarum glycopeptide(Lb GP) is an immunoreactive glycoprotein extracted from LBP. In this study, we investigated the potential protective effect of Lb GP on a chemically induced photoreceptor-degenerative mouse model. Wild-type mice received the following: oral administration of Lb GP as a protective pre-treatment on days 1–7;intraperitoneal administration of 40 mg/kg N-methylN-nitrosourea to induce photoreceptor injury on day 7;and continuation of orally administered Lb GP on days 8–14. Treatment with Lb GP increased photoreceptor survival and improved the structure of photoreceptors, retinal photoresponse, and visual behaviors of mice with photoreceptor degeneration. Lb GP was also found to partially inhibit the activation of microglia in N-methyl-N-nitrosourea-injured retinas and significantly decreased the expression of two pro-inflammatory cytokines. In conclusion, Lb GP effectively slowed the rate of photoreceptor degeneration in N-methyl-N-nitrosourea-injured mice, possibly through an anti-inflammatory mechanism, and has potential as a candidate drug for the clinical treatment of photoreceptor degeneration.Qihang Kong Xiu Han Haiyang Cheng Jiayu Liu Huijun Zhang Tangrong Dong Jiansu Chen Kwok-Fai So Xuesong Mi Ying Xu Shibo Tang 2024Neural Regeneration Research2024,19,10:0
Global trends in diabetic eye disease research from 2012 to 2021显示文摘Diabetic eye disease refers to a group of eye complications that occur in diabetic patients and include diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, diabetic cataracts, and diabetic glaucoma. However, the global epidemiology of these conditions has not been well characterized. In this study, we collected information on diabetic eye disease-related research grants from seven representative countries––the United States, China, Japan, the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, and France––by searching for all global diabetic eye disease journal articles in the Web of Science and Pub Med databases, all global registered clinical trials in the Clinical Trials database, and new drugs approved by the United States, China, Japan, and EU agencies from 2012 to 2021. During this time period, diabetic retinopathy accounted for the vast majority(89.53%) of the 2288 government research grants that were funded to investigate diabetic eye disease, followed by diabetic macular edema(9.27%). The United States granted the most research funding for diabetic eye disease out of the seven countries assessed. The research objectives of grants focusing on diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema differed by country. Additionally, the United States was dominant in terms of research output, publishing 17.53% of global papers about diabetic eye disease and receiving 22.58% of total citations. The United States and the United Kingdom led international collaborations in research into diabetic eye disease. Of the 415 clinical trials that we identified, diabetic macular edema was the major disease that was targeted for drug development(58.19%). Approximately half of the trials(49.13%) pertained to angiogenesis. However, few drugs were approved for ophthalmic(40 out of 1830;2.19%) and diabetic eye disease(3 out of 1830;0.02%) applications. Our findings show that basic and translational research related to diabetic eye disease in the past decade has not been highly active, and has yielded few new treatment methods and newly approved drugs.Yuan Yuan Shangli Ji Yali Song Zhaodi Che Lu Xiao Shibo Tang Jia Xiao 2024Neural Regeneration Research2024,19,10:0
