1Dietary resveratrol improves antioxidant status of sows and piglets and regulates antioxidant gene expression in placenta by Keap1-Nrf2 pathway and Sirt1显示文摘Background: Resveratrol, a plant phenol, affords protection against inflammation and oxidative stress. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary resveratrol supplementation during pregnancy and lactation on the antioxidant status of sows and piglets and on antioxidant gene expression and pathway in placenta.Methods: Forty sows were allotted to 2 dietary treatments 20 d after breeding. Sows were fed a control diet and a control diet with 300 mg/kg resveratrol. Oxidative stress biomarkers and antioxidant enzymes were measured in the placenta, milk, and plasma of sows and piglets. Antioxidant gene expression and protein expression of Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1-Nuclear factor E2-related factor 2(Keap1-Nrf2), nuclear factor kappa B-p65(NFκB-p65) and sirtuin1(Sirt1) were quantified in the placenta.Results: Dietary resveratrol increased the litter and piglets weaning weights. Antioxidant status in the milk, placenta and plasma of sows and piglets was partially improved by dietary resveratrol. In placenta, Nrf2 protein expression was increased and Keap1 protein expression was decreased by dietary resveratrol. The m RNA expression of antioxidant genes including catalase(CAT), glutathione peroxidase 1(GPX1), GPX4, superoxide dismutase 1(SOD1)and heme oxygenase 1(HO1), and phase 2 detoxification genes, including glutamate-cysteine ligase modifier(GCLM), microsomal glutathione S-transferase 1(MGST1) and UDP glucuronosyltransferase family 1 member A1(UGT1 A1), was increased by dietary resveratrol. Dietary resveratrol also increased Sirt1 and phosphorylated NFκB-p65 protein expression in the placenta. We failed to observe any influences of dietary resveratrol on pro-inflammatory cytokine levels, including those of interleukin 1β(IL-1β), IL-6, IL-8 and tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α). However, we observed that the m RNA expression of IL-8 in placenta was reduced by maternal resveratrol. In addition, dietary resveratrol showed interactive effects with day of lactation on activities of SOD and CAT and levels of malonaldehyde(MDA) and hydrogen peroxide(H2 O2) in milk.Conclusions: Dietary resveratrol supplementation during pregnancy and lactation improves the antioxidant status of sows and piglets, which is beneficial to the reproductive performance of sows. 2Morphological study on colonic pathology in ulcerative colitis treated by moxibustion显示文摘AIM To observe the therapeutic effect ofmoxibustion on ulcerative colitis and itsinfluence on the colonic mucosal morphology.METHODS Forty-six patients with ulcerativecolitis were randomly divided into themoxibustion with herbal medicine underneathgroup and the western medicine group.Thirtypatients were treated with the abovemoxibustion and 16 patients with Salicylayefapyridine(SASP).The colonic mucosa of 13patients in the moxibustion group was observedby colonoscopy before and after the treatment.Mucin was also analyzed by H.E and AB-PASstaining.RESULTS Seventeen patients were clinicallycured,12 were improved and 1 unchanged in themoxibustion group.In the control group,5patients were clinically cured,7 improved and 4unchanged.Thirteen patients with active UCwere taken as the subjects for histopathologicanalysis in this study.The colonic mucosallesions were remarkably improved and thecharacteristic of the mucin also changed.Inmost sections,the chronic inflammation ofmucosa was geatly ameliorated(P<0.01).Theinflammatory cell infiltratation much decreased and neutrophils,disapeared in most sections(P<0.001).The goblet cells significantlyincreased(P<0.001);crypt paracrypt abscessor mucosal ulceration was seen(P<0.001).CONCLUSION The rate of cure of ulcerative colitis by moxibustion with herbal medicine beneath is superior to that by SASP. 4Indoor Allergen Levels and Household Distributions in Nine Cities Across China显示文摘Objective Chinese allergic subjects have high levels of sensitization to house dust mite(HDM) and other indoor allergens. This study quantifies common indoor allergen levels in Chinese households. Methods Dust samples were collected from nine cities. Major allergens Der p 1 and Der f 1 from Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and D. farinae, and specific antigens of Blomia tropicalis, Tyrophagus putrescentiae, Acarus siro, and cockroach species Blattella germanica and Periplaneta americana were measured by ELISA. Results HDM allergens were found in dust samples from bedding in 95% of the Chinese households. The median levels varied from <0.006 to 9.2 μg/g of dust, depending on the city. The percentages of households having HDM allergen levels associated with the risk of developing allergy sensitization and asthma were 65% and 25%, respectively. Specific antigens of the storage mite and cockroach were only found in samples from the southern and tropical regions of China. Levels of mite allergens were generally higher in samples from bedding compared to samples from the living room, even for storage mites, whereas levels of cockroach antigens were higher in the living room samples. Conclusion HDM allergens are present in bedding dust samples from most Chinese households. Cities in southern and central China have relatively high levels of HDM major allergens compared to cities in northern and western China. 5Incidence and mortality of esophagus cancer in China, 2008-2012显示文摘Objective: To analyze the incidence and mortality rates of esophagus cancer in China from 2008 to 2012.Methods: Incident and mortality cases of esophagus cancer were retrieved from the National Central Cancer Registry(NCCR) database collecting from 135 cancer registries in China during 2008-2012. The incidence and mortality rates of esophagus cancer were calculated by area(urban/rural), region(eastern, middle, western), gender and age group(0, 1-4, 5-84 by 5 years and 85+ years). China census in 2000 and Segi’s world population were applied for age-standardized rates. Joinpoint model was used for time-trend analysis.Results: The crude incidence rate of esophagus cancer was 22.57/100,000. The age-standardized incidence rates by China standard population(ASIRC) and by world standard population(ASIRW) were 14.58/100,000 and14.80/100,000, respectively. The crude mortality rate of esophagus cancer was 17.19/100,000. The agestandardized mortality rates by Chinese standard population(ASMRC) and by world standard population(ASMRW) were 10.80/100,000 and 10.86/100,000 respectively. Incidence and mortality rates of esophagus cancer were higher in males than in females and higher in rural areas than in urban areas. The crude incidence rate in middle areas was the highest among all areas, followed by western areas and eastern areas. The age-specific incidence rate of esophagus cancer was relatively low in age groups before 40 years old and then increased after 45 years old. It peaked in the age group of 80-84 years. The patterns of age-specific mortality rates of esophagus cancer were close to those of age-specific incidence rates. The ASIRC of esophagus cancer decreased dramatically by 29.87% between 2003 and 2012, from 14.33/100,000 to 10.05/100,000. The esophagus cancer incidence rate decreased by 3.76% per year(P>0.05). The mortality rate of esophagus cancer decreased annually over the decades from 2003 to 2012 in China(P>0.05). In females, the annual percentage change(APC) of mortality rate was-5.43%[95% confidence intervals(95% CI):-6.50%,-4.30%](P<0.05) and the mortality rate of esophagus cancer in rural females was statistically significant(APC:-3.20%, 95% CI:-4.20%,-2.20%)(P<0.05).Conclusions: The focus of prevention and treatment for esophagus cancer is strengthening primary prevention of esophageal cancer, and promoting esophagus cancer secondary prevention to reduce incidence and mortality rates of esophagus cancer, prolong survival rate of patients and decline the burden of esophagus cancer in China.Yutong He Daojuan Li Baoen Shan Di Liang Jin Shi Wanqing Chen Jie He 2019Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2019,31,3:24

7Infection with novel coronavirus(SARS-CoV-2)causes pneumonia in Rhesus macaques显示文摘The 2019 novel coronavirus(SARS-CoV-2)outbreak is a major challenge for public health.SARS-CoV-2 infection in human has a broad clinical spectrum ranging from mild to severe cases,with a mortality rate of^6.4%worldwide(based on World Health Organization daily situation report).However,the dynamics of viral infection,replication and shedding are poorly understood.Here,we show that Rhesus macaques are susceptible to the infection by SARS-CoV-2.After intratracheal inoculation,the first peak of viral RNA was observed in oropharyngeal swabs one day post infection(1 d.p.i.),mainly from the input of the inoculation,while the second peak occurred at 5 d.p.i.,which reflected on-site replication in the respiratory tract.Histopathological observation shows that SARS-CoV-2 infection can cause interstitial pneumonia in animals,characterized by hyperemia and edema,and infiltration of monocytes and lymphocytes in alveoli.We also identified SARS-CoV-2 RNA in respiratory tract tissues,including trachea,bronchus and lung;and viruses were also re-isolated from oropharyngeal swabs,bronchus and lung,respectively.Furthermore,we demonstrated that neutralizing antibodies generated from the primary infection could protect the Rhesus macaques from a second-round challenge by SARS-CoV-2.The non-human primate model that we established here provides a valuable platform to study SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis and to evaluate candidate vaccines and therapeutics.Chao Shan Yan-Feng Yao Xing-Lou Yang Yi-Wu Zhou Ge Gao Yun Peng Lian Yang Xue Hu Jin Xiong Ren-Di Jiang Hua-Jun Zhang Xiao-Xiao Gao Cheng Peng Juan Min Ying Chen Hao-Rui Si Jia Wu Peng Zhou Yan-Yi Wang Hong-Ping Wei Wei Pang Zheng-Fei Hu Long-Bao Lv Yong-Tang Zheng Zheng-Li Shi Zhi-Ming Yuan 2020Cell Research2020,30,8:19

9Integration of Growing Milk Vetch in Winter and Reducing Nitrogen Fertilizer Application Can Improve Rice Yield in Double-Rice Cropping System显示文摘To study whether integrative fertilization [growing milk vetch in winter and reducing the dose of chemical nitrogen(N) fertilizer] can improve rice yield, and to reveal the underlying regulatory mechanisms for integrative fertilization, a three-year field trial including two treatments, milk vetch-rice-rice(MRR) and winter fallow-rice-rice(FRR), was conducted in 2010, 2011 and 2012.Our results demonstrated that the MRR treatment could significantly improve rice yield compared with the FRR treatment, especially when the application ratio of milk vetch and chemical fertilizer was 1:2.MRR treatment increased the effective panicle number and the spikelet number per panicle.In addition, a higher tillering number, leaf area index, photosynthetic-potential and photosynthetic-potential to grain ratio were observed in MRR treatment, which could provide enough dry matter for yield formation.Moreover, in MRR treatment, we discovered a higher transportation ratio and transformation ratio of dry matter in culm and leaves, and a stronger total sink capacity and spikelet-root bleeding intensity at the heading stage and 15 d after heading.Furthermore, the MRR treatment showed higher total N, phosphorus and potassium uptakes than FRR treatment, which was associated with the higher root dry weight in each soil layers.These results suggest that growing milk vetch in winter can improve rice yield under less chemical N fertilizer application, which is due to the improvement of soil nutrient status and the increased of rice root growth and development.ZHOU Chun-huo ZHAO Zun-kang PAN Xiao-hua HUANG Shan TAN Xue-ming WU Jian-fu SHI Qing-hua 2016Rice science2016,23,3:18

11Seedling growth and metal accumulation of selected woody species in copper and lead/zinc mine tailings显示文摘A greenhouse pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the potential of selected woody plants for revegetation in copper (Cu) and lead/zinc (Pb/Zn) mine tailing areas.Five woody species (Amorpha fruticosa Linn,Vitex trifolia Linn.var.simplicifolia Cham,Glochidion puberum (Linn.) Hutch,Broussonetia papyrifera,and Styrax tonkinensis) and one herbaceous species (Sesbania cannabina Pers) were planted in Cu and Pb/Zn tailings to assess their growth,root morphology,nutrition uptake,metal accumulation,and translocation in plants.Amorpha fruticosa maintained normal growth,while the other species demonstrated stress related growth and root development.Sesbania cannabina showed the highest biomass among the plants,although it decreased by 30% in Cu tailings and 40% in Pb/Zn tailings.Calculated tolerance index (TI) values suggested that A.fruticosa,an N-fixing shrub,was the most tolerant species to both tailings (TI values 0.92-1.01),while S.cannabina had a moderate TI of 0.65-0.81 and B.papyrifera was the most sensitive species,especially to Pb/Zn tailings (TI values 0.15-0.19).Despite the high concentrations of heavy metals in the mine tailings and plants roots,only a small transfer of these elements to the aboveground parts of the woody plants was evident from the low translocation factor (TF) values.Among the woody plants,V.trifolia var.simplicifolia had the highest TF values for Zn (1.32),Cu (0.78),and Pb/Zn (0.78).The results suggested that A.fruticosa and S.cannabina,which have the highest tolerance and biomass production,respectively,demonstrated the potential for tailings revegetation in southern China.Xiang Shi Xiaolei Zhang Guangcai Chen Yitai Chen Ling Wang Xiaoquan Shan 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,2:18
12A nowcasting model for the prediction of typhoon tracks based on a long short term memory neural network显示文摘It is of vital importance to reduce injuries and economic losses by accurate forecasts of typhoon tracks. A huge amount of typhoon observations have been accumulated by the meteorological department, however, they are yet to be adequately utilized. It is an effective method to employ machine learning to perform forecasts. A long short term memory(LSTM) neural network is trained based on the typhoon observations during 1949–2011 in China's Mainland, combined with big data and data mining technologies, and a forecast model based on machine learning for the prediction of typhoon tracks is developed. 15Linggui Zhugan Decoction(苓桂术甘汤)Inhibits Ventricular Remodeling after Acute Myocardial Infarction in Mice by Suppressing TGF-β1 Smad Signaling Pathway显示文摘Objective:To investigate the inhibitory effect of Linggui Zhugan Decoction(LZD,苓桂术甘汤)on the ventricular remodeling(VR)after acute myocardial infarction(AMI)and related mRNA and proteins expression in transforming growth factor-beta 1(TGF-β1)/Smad signaling pathway,and explain its putative mechanism.Methods:A VR model was generated by ligation of coronary artery in mice.Two weeks after surgery,60 mice were randomly divided into the model group,the sham-operation group(distilled water),the positive control group(2.4 mg/kg simvastatin),and the low-,medium-and high-dose LZD groups(2.1,4.2,8.4 g crude drug/kg,respectively)by a random number table,10 mice in each group.Mice in each group was treated for 4 weeks.Changes of hemodynamics indices and cardiac weight index were detected by the PowerLab data acquisition and analysis recording instrument.Morphology changes of myocardial tissue were observed by hematoxylin-eosin and Masson staining.The expressions of TGF-β1,Smad2,Smad3,p-Smad2 and p-Smad3 in myocardial tissue were detected by Western blotting.The mRNA expressions of TGF-β1,Smad2 and Smad3 were detected by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-qPCR).The expressions of matrix metalloprotein 2(MMP2),MMP9,collagenⅠand collagen Ⅲ were observed by immunohistochemical methods.Results:VR mice showed significant dysfunction in hemodynamic indices and cardiac structure and function.Compared with the shamoperation group,myocardial tissue damage,interstitial fibrosis occurred in the model mice,left ventricular systolic pressure(LVSP),left ventricular pressure maximum contraction rate(+dp/dtmax)and left ventricular pressure maximum relaxation rate(-dp/dtmax)decreased significantly(all P<0.01),while left ventricular end-diastolic pressure(LVEDP),cardiac weight index and left ventricular weight index elevated significantly,meanwhile TGF-β1,p-Smad2,p-Smad3,Smad2,Smad3,MMP2,MMP9,collagen Ⅰ,collagen Ⅲ protein expressions in myocardial tissue and TGF-β1 Smad2 and Smad3 mRNA expressions increased significantly(all P<0.01).Compared with the model group,LZD could significantly improve the pathological changes of myocardial tissue,increase LVSP,+dp/dtmax and-dp/dtmaxf lower LVEDP,reduce the whole heart weight index and left ventricular weight index and inhibit the over-expressions of TGF-β1f p-Smad2,p-Smad3,Smad2,Smad3,MMP2,MMP9,collagenⅠand collagenⅢproteins in myocardial tissue and mRNA expressions of TGF-β1 Smad2 and Smad3(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Conclusion:LZD can significantly suppress VR induced by AMI,and its underlying mechanism may be associated with its inhibitory effect on the TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway.WANG Liang SHI Hui HUANG Jin-ling XU Shan LIU Pei-pei 2020Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine2020,26,5:15
16Identification of mecciRNAs and their roles in the mitochondrial entry of proteins显示文摘Mammalian mitochondria have small genomes encoding very limited numbers of proteins.Over one thousand proteins and noncoding RNAs encoded by the nuclear genome must be imported from the cytosol into the mitochondria.Here,we report the identification of hundreds of circular RNAs(mecciRNAs)encoded by the mitochondrial genome.We provide both in vitro and in vivo evidence to show that mecciRNAs facilitate the mitochondrial entry of nuclear-encoded proteins by serving as molecular chaperones in the folding of imported proteins.Known components involved in mitochondrial protein and RNA importation,such as TOM40 and PNPASE,interact with mecciRNAs and regulate protein entry.The expression of mecciRNAs is regulated,and these transcripts are critical for the adaption of mitochondria to physiological conditions and diseases such as stresses and cancers by modulating mitochondrial protein importation.mecciRNAs and their associated physiological roles add categories and functions to the known eukaryotic circular RNAs and shed novel light on the communication between mitochondria and the nucleus.Xu Liu Xiaolin Wang Jingxin Li Shanshan Hu Yuqi Deng Hao Yin Xichen Bao Qiangfeng Cliff Zhang Geng Wang Baolong Wang Qinghua Shi Ge Shan 2020Science China(Life Sciences)2020,63,10:15

19Single and competitive adsorption affinity of heavy metals toward peanut shell-derived biochar and its mechanisms in aqueous systems显示文摘Converting peanut shells into biochar by pyrolysis was considered an environmentally friendly and efficient method for agricultural solid waste disposal.The properties of peanut shell-derived biochar(PBC)under different temperature and its adsorption capacity of heavy metals were investigated.It was found that PBC400 exhibited the highest cumulative capability for heavy metals elimination in single solute because of its high specific surface area and rich functional groups.Furthermore,the competitive adsorption revealed that PBC had a substantial difference in adsorption affinity from diverse heavy metal ions,sorption capacity decreased as Pb2+>Cu2+>Cd2+>Ni2+>Zn2+,which was lower than in a single solute.The adsorption process using selected biochar was optimized with respect to p H,reaction time,adsorbent dose,and initial concentration of heavy metals.The kinetic data was well fitted with PSO model,and the Langmuir model was adopted for adsorption equilibrium data in both cases of single solutes and mixed solutes for all heavy metals,which indicated that the removal course was primarily explained by monolayer adsorption,and chemical adsorption occupied an important role.Therefore,peanut shells derived biochar could be a potential and green adsorbent for wastewater treatment.Rui Shan Yueyue Shi Jing Gu YazhuoWang Haoran Yuan 2020Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,5:14
20Seroepidemiological Investigation of Lyme Disease and Human Granulocytic Anaplasmosis among People Living in Forest Areas of Eight Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Lyme disease and Human granulocytic anaplasmosis are tick‐borne diseases caused by Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum respectively. We have investigated infection and co-infection of the two diseases in the population of forest areas of eight provinces in China by measuring seroprevalence of antibodies against B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum. Methods Forest areas in 8 provinces were chosen for investigation using whole sampling and questionnaire survey methods. 3 669 serum samples from people in the forest areas were tested for the presence of antibodies by indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA). Results Seroprevalence against B. burgdorferi was 3% to 15% and against A. phagocytophilum was 2% to 18% in the study sites in the 8 provinces in China. We also found co-infection of B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum in 7 of the 8 provinces (the exception being the Miyun area in Beijing). The seroprevalence for both B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum was significantly higher among people exposed to ticks than among people who were not exposed to ticks.
