| 1 | Is increased red cell distribution width an indicating marker of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and fibrotic stage?显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the red cell distribution width(RDW)as an indicator of the presence of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)and its association with fibrotic scores.METHODS:A retrospective study was carried out that included sixty-two biopsy proven NASH,32 simple steatosis patients and 30 healthy controls. The correlation between the clinical and histopathological features of NASH patients and RDW values was evaluated.Liver fibrosis scores were measured using a 0 to 4 point scale and were divided in to two groups;fibrosis scores0-1 were termed mild and fibrosis scores 2-4 were termed advanced fibrosis.RDW values were compared between NASH,simple steatosis and healthy controls.Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to evaluate the independent predicting factors for the presence of liver fibrosis caused by NASH.RESULTS:Patients with NASH had higher RDW values compared with simple steatosis and healthy control groups[14.28%±0.25%vs 13.37%±0.12%,12.96%±0.14%(P<0.01),respectively].Patients with advanced fibrosis had higher RDW values than the mild fibrosis group(15.86%±0.4%vs 13.63%±0.67%,P<0.01,respectively).RDW also correlated with fibrotic scores(r=0.579 andP<0.01).The variables that were significant in the univariate analysis were evaluated in multivariate logistic regression analysis, and RDW was an independent predicting factor of NASH(OR=1.75,95%CI:1.129-2.711,P<0.05).CONCLUSION:RDW a new non-invasive marker that can be used to demonstrate the presence of NASH and indicate advanced fibrotic scores. | Mustafa Cengiz Burcu Aslan Candir Güldal Yilmaz Gülen Akyol Seren Ozenirler | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,42: | 8 |
| 2 | Hepatitis B-related events in autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation recipients显示文摘AIM: To investigate the frequency of occult hepatitis B, the clinical course of hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation and reverse seroconversion and associated risk factors in autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients. METHODS: This study was conducted in 90 patients undergoing autologous HSCT. Occult HBV infection was investigated by HBV-DNA analysis prior to transplantation, while HBV serology and liver function tests were screened prior to and serially after transplantation. HBV-related events including reverse seroconversion and reactivation were recorded in all patients. RESULTS: None of the patients had occult HBV prior to transplantation. Six (6.7%) patients were positivefor HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) prior to transplantation and received lamivudine prophylaxis; they did not develop HBV reactivation after transplantation. Clinical HBV infection emerged in three patients after transplantation who had negative HBV-DNA prior to HSCT. Two of these three patients had HBV reactivation while one patient developed acute hepatitis B. Three patients had anti-HBc as the sole hepatitis B-related antibody prior to transplantation, two of whom developed hepatitis B reactivation while none of the patients with antibody to HBV surface antigen (anti-HBs) did so. The 14 anti-HBs-and/or anti-HBc-positive patients among the 90 HSCT recipients experienced either persistent (8 patients) or transient (6 patients) disappearance of anti-HBs and/or anti-HBc. HBsAg seroconversion and clinical hepatitis did not develop in these patients. Female gender and multiple myeloma emerged as risk factors for loss of antibody in regression analysis (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Anti-HBc as the sole HBV marker seems to be a risk factor for reactivation after autologous HSCT. Lamivudine prophylaxis in HbsAg-positive patients continues to be effective. | zcan eneli Zübeyde Nur zkurt Kadir Acar Seyyal Rota Sahika Zeynep Aki Zeynep Arzu Yegin Münci Yagci Seren zenirler Gülsan Türkz Sucak | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,14: | 3 |

| 17 | Petroselinum crispum extract ameliorates scopolamine-induced cognitive dysfunction:role on apoptosis, inflammation and oxidative stress显示文摘This study was designed to investigate whether Petroselinum crispum(PC)extract has protective effects on the brain in the scopolamine-induced Alzheimer’s disease(AD)rat model. The rats were divided into;control,scopolamine(1 mg/kg,i.p.),galantamine(1.5 mg/kg,i.p.)and PC extract(2 g/kg,p.o.)-treated scopolamine groups. On day 14,the novel object recognition test(NORT)and Morris water maze test(MWMT)were performed and then the rats were sacrificed.Scopolamine-induced cognitive impairments observed in the NORT and MWMT,significantly improved with PC extract and galantamine treatments.Scopolamine reduced M_(1) receptor expression,Bcl-2/Bax ratio, and glutathione levels in the hippocampus and frontal cortex, while malondialdehyde levels,caspase-3/9 expressions, and acetylcholinesterase(AChE)activity were found to be increased. On the other hand,PC and galantamine treatments reversed these changes. In conclusion,PC extract has shown an ameliorative effect on the spatial and recognition memory,M_(1) receptor expression, apoptosis, oxidative stress, and increased AChE activity. Thus,it was concluded that PC could prevent AD-like conditions and can be used as a functional food. However, since animal models do not completely mimic those of humans, based on the data obtained in this study, the importance of PC on human AD should be demonstrated in future studies. | GökselŞener Gözde Karakadıoglu Dilek Ozbeyli Seren Ede Refiye Yanardag Ozlem Sacan Asli Aykac | 2022 | Food Science and Human Wellness2022,11,5: | 0 |
