| 2 | Potential antibacterial activity of berberine against multi drug resistant enterovirulent Escherichia coli isolated from yaks(Poephagus grunniens) with haemorrhagic diarrhoea显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antimicrobial efficacy of berberine,a plant alkaloid.Methods:Five multi-drug resistant(MDR) STEC/EPEC and five MDR ETEC isolates from yaks with haemorrhagic diarrhoea were selected for the study.Antibacterial activity of berberine was evaluated by broth dilution and disc diffusion methods.The binding kinetics of berberine to DNA and protein was also enumerated.Results:For both categories of enterovirulent Escherichia coli(E.roli) isolates, berberine displayed the antibaclerial effect in a dose dependent manner.The MIC50 of berberine chloride for STEC/EPEC isolates varied from 2.07μM to 3.6μM with a mean of(2.95±0.33)μM where as for ETEC strains it varied from 1.75 to 1.96μM with a mean of(1.87±0.03)μM. | 3 | Antioxidant activity and phenol and flavonoid contents of eight medicinal plants from Western Nepal显示文摘OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant activity, phenolic and flavonoids contents of selected medicinal plants form the Western region of Nepal.METHODS: The antioxidant activity of selected medicinal plants were determined by using 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity; total ferric ion reducing ability through spectroscopic analysis. The content of total phenols was determined using Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, whereas Aluminum chloride colorimetric method was used for flavonoid determination.RESULTS: Extracts of Syzygium Operculatus(87%),Astilbe Rivularis(83%) and Mallotus Philippnensis(88%) showed significant free radical scavenging activity with effective concentration(EC50) close to that of ascorbic acid. Syzygium Operculatus(96%),Astilbe Rivularis(97%) and Mallotus Philippnensis(97%) had potent reducing power in concentration dependent fashion. Those plant extract with higher free radical scavenging and ferric reducing effect also showed the greater content of both phenols and flavonoids, suggesting the correlation between polyphenolic content and antioxidant activity. Those plant extracts which showed better antioxidant activity assays, also demonstrated higher total phenol and flavonoid contents. | 4 | Effects of Organic Amendments on Soil Physical Attributes and Aggregate-Associated Phosphorus Under Long-Term Rice-Wheat Cropping显示文摘The quantification of phosphorus(P) in bulk soil and P distribution in different size fractions of water-stable aggregates(WSAs)are important for assessing potential P loss through runoff. We evaluated available and total P distribution within WSAs of a sitty clay to clay soil in a long-term fertility experiment of a rice-wheat cropping system in India. Surface soil samples were collected from seven plots amended with NPK fertilizers in combination with or without organic amendments, farmyard manure(FYM), green manure(GM), and paddy straw(PS). The plot with no NPK fertilizers or organic amendments was set as a control. The soil samples were separated by wet sieving into four soil aggregate size fractions: large macroaggregates(> 2.0 mm), small macroaggregates(0.25–2.0 mm), fine microaggregates(0.05–0.25 mm), and a silt + clay-sized fraction(< 0.05 mm). Structural indices were higher in the soil receiving organic amendments than in the soil receiving inorganic fertilizer alone. Organically amended soil had a higher proportion of stable macroaggregates than the control and the soil receiving inorganic fertilizer alone, which were rich in microaggregates. Total and available P contents within WSAs were inversely related to the aggregate size, irrespective of treatment. The distribution of available and total P in the soil aggregate size fraction was as follows: silt + clay-size fraction > small macroaggregates > fine microaggregates> large macroaggregates. Within a size class, aggregate-associated available and total P contents in the organically amended soil were in the following order: FYM > PS ≥ GM. The available P content of the microaggregates(< 0.25 mm) was 8-to 10-times higher than that of the macroaggregates(> 0.25 mm), and the total P content of the microaggregates was 4-to 5-times higher than that of the macroaggregates. | 6 | Multifault diagnosis in WSN using a hybrid metaheuristic trained neural network显示文摘Wireless sensor networks are susceptible to failures of nodes and links due to various physical or computational reasons.Some physical reasons include a very high temperature,a heavy load over a node,and heavy rain.Computational reasons could be a third-party intrusive attack,communication conflicts,or congestion.Automated fault diagnosis has been a well-studied problem in the research community.In this paper,we present an automated fault diagnosis model that can diagnose multiple types of faults in the category of hard faults and soft faults.Our proposed model implements a feed-forward neural network trained with a hybrid metaheuristic algorithm that combines the principles of exploration and exploitation of the search space.The proposed methodology consists of different phases,such as a clustering phase,a fault detection and classification phase,and a decision and diagnosis phase.The implemented methodology can diagnose composite faults,such as hard permanent,soft permanent,intermittent,and transient faults for sensor nodes as well as for links.The proposed implementation can also classify different types of faulty behavior for both sensor nodes and links in the network.We present the obtained theoretical results and computational complexity of the implemented model for this particular study on automated fault diagnosis.The performance of the model is evaluated using simulations and experiments conducted using indoor and outdoor testbeds. | Pabitra Mohan Khilar Tirtharaj Dash | 2020 | Digital Communications and Networks2020,6,1: | 3 |

| 8 | Optical and luminescence characteristics of Eu^(3+)-doped B_2O_3:SiO_2:Y_2O_3:CaO glasses for visible red laser and scintillation material applications显示文摘Europium(Eu^(3+)) doped glasses of chemical compositions(55-x)B_2O_3:10 SiO_2:25 Y_2O_3:10CaO:xEu_2O_3,where x denotes mol% and ranges 0≤ x ≤ 2.5, were synthesized by adopting conventional melt quenching technique, Physical properties like density, molar volume, polaron radius, inter-ionic distance and field strength of the glass samples were investigated to assess the impact of Eu_2O_3. Optical and luminescence properties of the glasses were characterized with optical absorption, photoluminescence,X-ray induced emission spectra, temperature dependence emission spectra and decay times. Judd-Ofelt(JO) intensity parameters(Ω_λ) of the glasses were evaluated based on the absorption spectrum of 0.5 mol%. JO parameters, calculated from absorption spectra with thermal corrections on oscillator strength, were used to evaluate radiative properties such as radiative transition probability(A_R),branching ratio(β_R), stimulated cross section emission(σ) and radiative lifetime(τ_R) for ~5D_0→~7 F_J(J = 0,1,2,3 and 4) transitions. The decay rate of ~5D_0 fluorescent level for all the glass samples was single exponential. Lifetimes of the ~5D_0 level were decreased with increasing concentrations of Eu^(3+)ions from 0.05 mol% to 2.5 mol% which might be due to energy transfer through cross-relaxation in the glasses. The chromaticity coordinates(x, y) were similar for all BSYCaEu glasses and were located at the red region of CIE 1931 color chromaticity diagram. | 9 | Dendrimer-decorated nanogels:Efficient nanocarriers for biodistribution in vivo and chemotherapy of ovarian carcinoma显示文摘Nanomedicine has revolutionized disease theranostics by the accurate diagnosis and efficient therapy.Here,the PAMAM dendrimer decorated PVCL-GMA nanogels(NGs)were developed for favorable biodistribution in vivo and enhanced antitumor efficacy of ovarian carcinoma.By an ingenious design,the NGs with a unique structure that GMA-rich domains were localized on the surface were synthesized via precipitation polymerization.After G2 dendrimer decoration,the overall charge is changed from neutral to positive,and the NGs-G2 display the whole charge nature of positively charged corona and neutral core.Importantly,the unique architecture and charge conversion of NGs-G2 have a profound impact on the biodistribution and drug delivery in vivo.As a consequence of this alteration,the NGs-G2 as nanocarriers emerge the highly sought biodistribution of reduced liver accumulation,enhanced tumor uptake,and promoted drug release,resulting in the significantly augmented antitumor efficacy with low side effects.Remarkably,this finding is contrary to some reported work that the nanocarriers with positive charge have preferential liver uptake.Moreover,the NGs-G2 also displayed thermal/pH dual-responsive behaviors,excellent biocompatibility,improved cellular uptake,and stimuli-responsive drug release.Encouragingly,this work demonstrates a novel insight into the strategy for optimizing design,improving biodistribution and enhancing theranostic efficacy of nanocarriers. | Xin Li Zhijun Ouyang Helin Li Chaolei Hu Pabitra Saha Lingxi Xing Xiangyang Shi Andrij Pich | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,10: | 2 |
