| 17 | COVID-19-related cardiomyopathy:Can dual-energy computed tomography be a diagnostic tool?显示文摘BACKGROUND No study on dual energy computed tomography(DECT)has been found in the literature to evaluate possibly fatal cardiac/myocardial problems in corona virus disease 2019(COVID-19)patients.Myocardial perfusion deficits can be found in COVID-19 patients even without any significant coronary artery occlusion, and these deficits can be shown via DECT with a perfect interrater agreement.AIM To assess lung perfusion alterations in COVID-19 patients. To our knowledge,no study using DECT has been performed to evaluate possibly fatal cardiac/myocardial problems in COVID-19 patients. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the role of DECT in the detection of COVID-19-related cardiac diseases.METHODS Two blinded independent examiners evaluated CT images using the 17-segment model according to the American Heart Association’s classification of the segmentation of the left ventricular myocardium.Additionally, intraluminal diseases and abnormalities in the main coronary arteries and branches were investigated.Following segment-by-segment analysis, perfusion deficiencies identified on the iodine map pictures on DECT were identified.RESULTS The study enrolled a total of 87 patients.Forty-two of these individuals were classified as COVID-19 positive, and 45 were classified as controls.Perfusion deficits were identified in 66.6%(n=30)of the cases. All control patients had a normal iodine distribution map.Perfusion deficits were found on DECT iodine map images with subepicardial(n=12,40%),intramyocardial(n=8,26.6%),or transmural(n=10,33.3%)anatomical locations within the left ventricular wall. There was no subendocardial involvement in any of the patients.CONCLUSION Myocardial perfusion deficits can be found in COVID-19 patients even without any significant coronary artery occlusion. These deficits can be shown via DECT with a perfect interrater agreement.Additionally, the presence of perfusion deficit is positively correlated with D-dimer levels. | Fahri Aydin Mecit Kantarci Sonay Aydın Erdal Karavaş Gökhan Ceyhun Hayri Ogul ÇağrıEminŞahin Suat Eren | 2023 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2023,11,5: | 0 |
| 18 | Investigation of isotope composition of nuclear fragments with angular momentum and Coulomb effects in peripheral ^(84)Kr+ ^(112,124)Sn collisons at 35 A MeV显示文摘New theoretical calculations are performed to investigate the Coulomb proximity and angular momentum effects on multifragmentation picture for84Kr+112,124 Sn collisions at an incident beam energy of 35 Me V/nucleon.Charge and isotopic distributions and the mean neutron-to-proton ratios of the fragments are reproduced within the microcanonical Markov chain calculations on the basis of Statistical Multifragmentation Model. It is shown that the Coulomb interactions and angular momentum effects are very important to reproduce isotopic composition of nuclear fragments in peripheral heavy-ion collisions at Fermi energies. Our results imply that it is possible to investigate in laboratories the modification of structure parameters of fragments, such as the symmetry energy coefficient, at subnuclear densities in dense environment of other species. | Nihal Buyukcizmeci Aysegul Ergun Hamide Imal Riza Ogul Alexander S Botvina | 2015 | Nuclear Science and Techniques2015,26,2: | 0 |
| 19 | Utility of diffusion-weighted imaging in the diagnosis of inguinal lymph node metastasis with malignant melanoma显示文摘Malignant melanoma is a malignancy of pigmentproducing cells(melanocytes) located predominantly in the skin. Nodal metastases are an adverse prognostic factor compromising long term patient survival. Therefore, accurate detection of regional nodal metastases is required for optimization of treatment. Computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) remain the primary imaging modalities for regional staging of malignant melanoma. However, both modalities rely on size-related and morphological criteria to differentiate between benign and malignant lymph nodes, decreasing the sensitivity for detection of small metastases. Surgery is the primary mode of therapy for localized cutaneous melanoma. Patients should be followed up for metastases after surgical removal. We report here a case of inguinal lymph node enlargement with a genital vesicular lesion with a history of surgery for malignant melanoma on her thigh two years ago. CT and diffusion weighted-MRI(DW-MRI) were applied for the lymph node identification. DW-MRI revealed malignant lymph nodes due to malignant melanoma metastases correlation with pathological findings. | Ummugulsum Bayraktutan Mecit Kantarci Berhan Pirimoglu Hayri Ogul Aylin Okur Nesrin Gursan | 2014 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2014,2,2: | 0 |
| 20 | Animal models of uveal melanoma显示文摘Animal models are crucial for the study of tumorigenesis and therapies in oncology research.Though rare, uveal melanoma(UM)is the most common intraocular tumor and remains one of the most lethal cancers.Given the limitations of studying human UM cells in vitro, animal models have emerged as excellent platforms to investigate disease onset, progression, and metastasis.Since Greene’s initial studies on hamster UM,researchers have dramatically improved the array of animal models.Animals with spontaneous tumors have largely been replaced by engrafted and genetically engineered models.Inoculation techniques continue to be refined and expanded.Newer methods for directed mutagenesis have formed transgenic models to reliably study primary tumorigenesis.Human UM cell lines have been used to generate rapidly growing xenografts. Most recently,patient-derived xenografts have emerged as models that closely mimic the behavior of human UM.Separate animal models to study metastatic UM have also been established.Despite the advancements, the prognosis has only recently improved for UM patients, especially in patients with metastases. There is a need to identify and evaluate new preclinical models. To accomplish this goal,it is important to understand the origin, methods, advantages, and disadvantages of current animal models. In this review, the authors present current and historic animal models for the experimental study of UM.The strengths and shortcomings of each model are discussed and potential future directions are explored. | Ogul E.Uner Nikhila Gandrakota Corrina P.Azarcon Hans E.Grossniklaus | 2022 | Annals of Eye Science2022,,1: | 0 |
