1Mental health in the post-COVID-19 era:challenges and the way forward显示文摘The COVID-19 pandemic has posed a serious threat to global mental health.Multiple lines of evidence suggest that there is a varying yet considerable increase in mental health issues among the general population and vulnerable groups.12 The aftermath is obscure and speculative from a social, economic, individual and public mental health perspective.Recently published studies support the existence of an emotional epidemic curve, describing a high probability of an increase in the burden of mental health issues in the post-pandemic era.34 Furthermore, previous major public health emergencies showed that more than half of the population devel-oped mental health problems and required mental health intervention.45 There is,therefore,an urgent need to reorganise existing mental health services to address the current unmet needs for mental health and to prepare for future challenges in the postpandemic era in terms of prevention and management.Ramyadarshni Vadivel Sheikh Shoib Sarah El Halabi Samer El Hayek LamiaàEssam Drita Gashi Bytyçi Ruta Karaliuniene Andre Luiz Schuh Teixeira Sachin Nagendrappa Rodrigo Ramalho Ramdas Ransing Victor Pereira-Sanchez Chonnakarn Jatchavala Frances Nkechi Adiukwu Ganesh Kudva Kundadak 2021General Psychiatry2021,34,1:2

8An Explanatory Study Approach,Using Machine Learning to Forecast Solar Energy Outcome显示文摘AI(artificial intelligence)techniques play a crucially important role in predicting the expected energy outcome and its performance, analysis, modeling and control of renewable energy.Solar energy usage has grown exponentially over the years. In the face of global energy consumption and increased depletion of most fossil fuel, the world is faced with the challenges of meeting the ever-increasing energy demands, also utility companies who provide solar energy have a challenge of unstable input of solar energy to the grid due to its intermittent nature, unlike other sources, hence the difference between expected generation and actual generation, demand and supply can lead to an unbalanced grid. Therefore, incorporating accurately machine learning technology to predict the expected outcome of solar energy from the intermittent solar radiation will be crucial to keep a balance grid operation between supply and demand, production planning and energy management especially during installations of a photovoltaic power plant. However, one of the major problems of forecasting is the algorithms used to control, model, and predict performances of the energy systems which are complicated and involve large computer power, differential equations, and time series. Also having unreliable data(poor quality)for solar radiation over a geographical location as well as insufficient long series can be a bottleneck to actualization. To overcome these problems,we employ the Anaconda Navigator(Jupyter Notebook)for machine learning which can combine large amounts of data with fast, iterative processing and intelligent algorithms allowing the software to learn automatically from patterns or features to predict the performance and outcome of Solar Energy which in turn enables the balance between supply and demand on loads, efficient operation of the utility company as well as enhances power production planning and management.Agada Ihuoma Nkechi Nagata Yasunori 2022Journal of Energy and Power Engineering2022,16,2:0
9Protective roles of Vigna subterranea(Bambara nut) in rats with aspirin-induced gastric mucosal injury显示文摘Objective: Vigna subterranea is widely consumed as a traditional staple food in Nigeria and some West African countries. The ethanolic seed extract of V. subterranea(EEVS) was investigated for its gastroprotective effects on aspirin plus pylorus ligation-induced gastric ulcerated rats using an in vivo assay. Methods: Gastric mucosal ulceration was induced experimentally in Groups 2 to 5 using aspirin plus pylorus ligation. Rats in Group 1 were orally pretreated with 3% Tween 80 only as normal control.Groups 2 to 5 were pretreated with 3% Tween 80(ulcer group), 20 mg/kg of omeprazole(positive group),and 200 and 400 mg/kg of EEVS(experimental groups), respectively, once daily for 21 days before ulcer induction. Parameters including those for gastric secretions, ulcerated areas and gastric wall histology were assessed. Levels of superoxide dismutase(SOD), glutathione peroxidase(GP_X), and malondialdehyde(MDA) in the gastric tissue homogenate were also determined. Results: Pretreatment with EEVS significantly(P < 0.05) reduced the ulcer index, gastric volume and total acidity in rats with aspirin plus pylorus ligation-induced ulcer. The pH and mucus of gastric content increased significantly(P< 0.05) while the levels of SOD and GPx were observed to be elevated with a reduced amount of MDA. Significant severe gastric mucosal injury was exhibited in the ulcer group and EEVS or omeprazole offered significant(P < 0.05) protection against mucosal ulceration.Histologically, the gastric submucosal layer showed remarkable decrease in edema and leucocytes infiltration compared with ulcer group. Conclusion: The study suggests that EEVS offered a protective action against aspirin plus pylorus ligationinduced gastric ulcers in Wistar rats. The protective effect might be mediated via antisecretory, cytoprotective and antioxidative mechanisms.Morufu Eyitayo Balogun Elizabeth Enohnyaket Besong Jacinta Nkechi Obimma Ogochukwu Sophia Mbamalu Fankou Serges Athanase Djobissie 2018Journal of Integrative Medicine2018,16,5:0
10Integration of Photovoltaic Energy to the Grid,Using the Virtual Synchronous Generator Control Technique显示文摘Renewable energy is becoming more popular due to its benefits for both economic and environmental reasons. Therefore, having a fault free system will enhance efficiency and proper delivery of power. This paper presents the design, modelling and simulation of a Synchronverter, analyzing its fault and response of the system during integration.A synchronous frequency regulator for grid connection is proposed to improve quick recovery, power quality enhancement and good system performance after a fault occurrence. The swing equation provides the inertia and the damping for stability, swift system integration of photovoltaic energy to the grid and an overall effective performance. The effectiveness of the proposed model was simulated in MATLAB/Simulink to analyze the system’s response during and after a fault occurrence and photovoltaic integration comparing load change at different times.Simulation results and analysis are presented to validate proposed controller.Agada Ihuoma Nkechi Abdul Motin Howlader Atsushi Yona 2018Journal of Energy and Power Engineering2018,12,7:0

14Antioxidant activity in HIV and malaria co-infected subjects in Anambra State, southeastern Nigeria显示文摘Objective:To determine the antioxidant status of HIV and malaria co-infected participants. Methods:Blood samples collected from the 193 randomly recruited participants were used for HIV screening,Plasmodium falciparum antigen screening, malaria parasite density count, CD4^+ T cell count, glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase and total antioxidant status measurement.Standard laboratory methods were used for the analysis. Results:The results showed that glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase, total antioxidant status and CD4^+ T cell count were significantly lowered in symptomatic HIV participants with and without malaria co-infection(P<0.01) in each case compared with control participants. Also, glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidise, total antioxidant status and CD4^+ T cell count were significantly lowered in asymptomatic HIV participants with and without malaria co-infection(P<0.05) in each case, compared with control participants without malaria.Similarly, these antioxidants were significandy lowered in control participants with malaria infection(P<0.05) compared with control participants without malaria. The malaria parasite density in symptomatic HIV infected participants was negatively associated with glutathione reductase(r = -0.906,P<0.01),glutathione peroxidase(r = -0.719,P<0.01) and total antioxidant status(r = -0.824,P<0.01).Conclusions: The antioxidant activity was affected in HIV infected participants with malaria co-infeclion. Malaria co-infeclion in HIV seems to exert additional burden on antioxidants. This calls for concern in malaria endemic areas with increasing prevalence of HIV infection.Faustina Nkechi Osuji Charles Chinedum Onyenekwe Martins Ifeanyichukwu Joseph Ebere Ahaneku Micheal Ezeani Ifeoma Pricilla Ezeugwunne 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012,5,11:0
15Challenges in the management of paediatric cataract in a developing country显示文摘AIM:To review the management of cataract in children in a tertiary hospital in a developing country, and to highlight the challenges therein.· METHODS:The hospital records of children aged 15 years or less that had cataract surgery at University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital,Enugu from 2005 to 2008 were reviewed retrospectively.Information was obtained on bio-data,pre-and post-operative visual acuity(VA),biometry, and type of surgery, use of intraocular lens(IOL) and presence of co-morbidity.SPSS was used for data entry and analysis.· RESULTS:The hospital records of 21 children(26 eyes) were analyzed. There were 12 males(57.1%) and 9 females(42.9%).Pre-operative VA could not be assessed in 11 eyes(42.3%),14 eyes(53.9%) had VA <3/60 and one eye(3.8%) had VA 6/60.Biometry was done in only 5 eyes(19.2%).All eyes had standard extracapsular cataract extraction without primary posterior capsulectomy;12 eyes(46.2%) had posterior chamber intraocular lens(PC-IOL) implant while 13 eyes(50.0%) had no IOL.After 12 weeks of follow up,vision assessment was available in only 15 eyes. With best correction,VA of 6/18 or better was achieved in only 5 eyes(33.3%).· CONCLUSION:Inadequate facilities and inadequate follow up after surgery are some of the challenges in managing paediatric cataract in the developing countries. If these challenges are not addressed, cataract will remain a major cause of childhood blindness and low vision in Africa for many years. There should be collaboration between Paediatric Ophthalmology Centres in industrialized and developing countries to enhance skill transfer.Governmental and International Non-governmental Organizations can go a long way to facilitate this exchange.Ifeoma R Ezegwui Ada E Aghaji Nkechi J Uche Ernest N Onwasigwe 2011International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2011,4,1:0
