1An experiment study of quartz-coesite transition at differential stress显示文摘In order to study quartz-coesite transition under the conditions of differential stress, experiments of quartzite deformation were carried out using a triaxial testing system with a Griggs type solid medium pressure vessel. Analyses on the plastically-deformed samples under optical microscope and Raman spectra show that fine-grained coesite was present in the region of samples adjacent to the pistons at temperatures of 950-1000℃, confining pressure of 1.3 GPa, differential stress of 1.5-1.67 GPa, and total strain of 75%-81%. It is evident that the transition pressure of quartz-coesite at differential stress and intensely-strained conditions is far lower than the pressure for coesite stability at isostatic pressure. In other words, the stress condition of coesite occurrence is not unique. The decrease in confining pressure for quartz-coesite transition under differential stress conditions is controlled by a combined effect of the maximum principal stress that provides a high stress environment, and differential stress that causes sample deformation. Coesite was produced in the plastically-deformed samples in this study, but it can occur in both semi-brittle and plastic deformation regimes as seen in previous studies. Phase transition in semi-brittle deformation regime is caused by local mechanical instability induced by shear deformation, and phase transition in plastic flow regime is due to strain instability induced by the presence of a high dislocation density within intensely-deformed quartz crystals.ZHOUYongsheng HEChangrong SONGJuan MAShengli MAJin 2005Chinese Science Bulletin2005,50,5:5
2Spatial distribution of heavy metals of agricultural soils in Dongguan, China显示文摘Distribution and speciation of heavy metals of agricultural soils(85 surface soil samples and 4 soil profiles) in Dongguan were investigated, while total Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn(abbreviated as Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn) and available Cu, Zn(Av-Cu, Av-Zn) were analyzed by a flame absorption spectrophotometer(AAS), and total Cd(Cd) was analyzed using graphite furnace AAS. The content of Cd, Cu and Ni was partially much more than the second grade of GB15618-1995 even though the mean contents of all heavy metal were less than the threshold value of the second grade and only the mean content of Pb was more than the value of national background. Results of descriptive statistic showed that the mean content of heavy metals should depend on land utilization and spatial location at some extent. The heavy metal contents were higher in the Southwest and Northwest than in the Central. In addition, the mean contents of Zn and Pb in Dongguan paddy soils were significantly higher than those of Pearl River Delta(PRD) and Taihu Lake region(TLR). Correlation analyses indicated that there existed significant correlation between Cr and Ni in orchard soils, and among Zn, Cd and Cu, between Av-Cu and Cu, between Av-Zn and Cr, Ni, pH value in vegetable soils, and a weak relationship between Cd, Cu and Pb, between Av-Zn and Zn. 3Research on Characteristics of Focal Rupture of the Zhangbei-Shangyi Earthquake by Means of Deformation Field Obtained by Spaceborne D-INSAR显示文摘In the last ten years, the D_InSAR (Differential Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) technique has proved very useful; it has been a new space observation technique with great potential. Investigating seismic focus rupture information using D_InSAR is a scientific issue to which more attention is being paid. In this paper, the basic theory of seismic focus dislocation models is discussed briefly. Based on a map of the interferometric deformation field of the Zhangbei_Shangyi earthquake from Jan.10, 1998, and applying the seismic focus dislocation model within elastic half_space medium; some geometrical and kinematical characteristics of the main seismic fault are deduced. Results were as follows: the seismic break surface of the Zhangbei_Shangyi earthquake is left_slip and thrust fault, striking in SEE_NWW 272°with dip angle 46°; rupture direction is unilateral faulting from SEE to NWW; length of rupture zone is 9km, width is 8km, and depth is 8km, the displacement vector of three directions are 290mm, 560mm and 0mm.ShanXinjian MaJin SongXiaoyu WangChao LiuJiahang ZhangGuifang 2003Earthquake Research in China2003,17,2:3

9ON COMPLEXITY OF POWER SYSTEMS显示文摘The power system is a classical example of complex systems. In this paper it is shown that the power industry in China is facing a tremendous challenge. The complexity in power systems is investigated as follows. First, the cascade failure in power systems is analyzed, and compared with sand-pile model. Next, we show that the agent-based modelling is a proper way for power network. Mathematically, the geometric dynamics and differential inclusion are useful tools for the stability analysis of large scale power systems. As for power market, the game theory and generalized control system model are proposed. For a complex power system, an evolutive model may be more accurate in description and analysis. Finally, certain newly developed numerical methods in the power system computation are introduced.
