1Over-expression of an Arabi-dopsisd δ-OAT gene enhances salt and drought tolerance in transgenic rice显示文摘d-OAT, ornithine--aminotransferase, is the key enzyme involved in proline biosynthesis. In this study the Arabidopsis d -OAT gene was transferred into rice (Oryza sativa L. ssp japonica cv. Zhongzuo 321), whose successful integration was demonstrated by PCR and Southern blot analysis. The over-expression of the gene in transgenic rice was also confirmed. Biochemical analysis showed that, under salt or drought stress conditions, proline contents in the leaves and roots in transgenic rice plants were 5- to 15-fold of those in non-transgenic controls. Under stress conditions, germinating rate of transgenic lines is higher than that of controls. Although the growth of rice plants tested were more and more retarded with the increasing of NaCl concentration, the transgenic plants grow faster compared to the controls under the same stress condition. Meanwhile, the resistance to KCl and MgSO4 stresses was also found enhanced in trans-genic rice. Furthermore, the over-expression of d -OAT also improved the yield of transgenic plants under stress condi-tions. The average yield per plant of transgenic lines in-creases about 12%—41% more than that of control lines under 0.1 mol/L NaCl stress. 2Recent advances in photodynamic therapy based on emerging two-dimensional layered nanomaterials显示文摘Photodynamic therapy(PDT)is a promising non-invasive therapy approach for various diseases including malignant tumor.The process of PDT involves three interrelated aspects,namely photosensitizer(PS),light source,and oxygen,among which PS is the decisive factor that determines its anticancer efficiency.There exist some defects in currently applied PDT,such as inadequate production of reactive oxygen species(ROS),poor penetration of exciting light,insufficient oxygen supply,and nonselective distribution of PS.With unique physicochemical and optical properties,two-dimensional nanomaterials(2DNMs)have aroused great interest in biomedical fields.2DNMs-based PDT is promising to significantly improve antitumor efficacy compared to conventional PDT.In this review,we will firstly introduce the underlying mechanism of PDT and how 2DNMs are absorbed and distribute inside tumor cells.After that,we will not only illustrate how 2DNMs-based PDT can enhance tumor-killing efficacy and minimize side-effects through conquering the above-mentioned defects of conventional PDT and the preparation process of 2DNMs,but also elaborate recent advances about 2DNMs-based PDT.Lastly,we will summarize the challenges and future prospects of 2DNMs-based PDT.Xinqiang Wu Xiaofeng Jiang Taojian Fan Zhiwei Zheng Zhaoyuan Liu Yubin Chen Liangqi Cao Zhongjian Xie Dawei Zhang Jiaqi Zhao Qiwen Wang Zhenhui Huang Zhijian Chen Ping Xue Han Zhang 2020Nano Research2020,13,6:6
3Pb, Cu botanogeochemical anomalies and toxic effects on plant cells in Pb-Zn (Sn) ore fields, Northeast Guangxi Autonomous Region, China显示文摘In the Lingchuan-Daoping and Xinglu Pb-Zn ore fields in northern and eastern Guangxi Autonomous Region, Pb, Cu botanogeochemical anomalies may be ascribed to the excessive amounts of Pb and Cu taken up by the root system of plants, such as China fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata Lamb. Hook), mason pine (Pinus massoniana Lamb.) and bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum var. latiusculum). Under transmission electron microscope (TEM), the excess Pb, Cu in the leaf cells of the plants are present as high electron-density substances, which were precipitated in the leaf cells, causing phytotoxic effects by deforming and injuring cellular tissues. The sorts of toxic elements accumulating in the leaf cells are consistent with those of the botanogeochemically anomalous elements in the polluted soil where the plants grow. 10Molecular cloning of the obese gene from Cyprinus carpio and its expression in Escherichia coli显示文摘Aiming to analyze the characteristics of the Cyprinus carpio obese gene structure and the biological activity of its expression product,we amplified the carp obese gene using reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction from carp mesentery adipose tissue RNA.Sequence analysis revealed that it has a length of 438 nt,which encodes a 146-amino acid peptide.When nucleotide sequence and deduced amino acid sequence were compared with homologous sequences from those of humans,pigs,and rats,they displayed a fairly high degree of conservation(the homology of the nucleotide sequence was 84%,86%,and 95%,respectively,while that of the amino acid sequence was 84%,82%,and 96%,respectively,for humans,pigs,and rats).The cDNA fragment was inserted into the expression vector pET-28a,and the resulting plasmid was expressed in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3)by isopropylthiogalactoside induction.Results of sodium dodecyl sulfate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis analysis indicated that a fusion protein was specifically expressed in E.coli BL21(DE3).The weight of the fusion protein was about 20 kDa,and a 16-kDa protein was expressed from the carp obese gene.By gel thin-layer scanning analysis,the amount of target protein was determined to be about 20%.The purified product was found to be biologically active and to reduce the food intake and body weight of mice during tests.Dai Hanchuan Long Liangqi Ding Guang 2006Frontiers in Biology2006,1,1:1

18Response surface methodology-based hybrid robust design optimization for complex product under mixed uncertainties显示文摘Minimizing the impact of the mixed uncertainties(i.e.,the aleatory uncertainty and the epistemic uncertainty) for a complex product of compliant mechanism(CPCM) quality improvement signifies a fascinating research topic to enhance the robustness.However, most of the existing works in the CPCM robust design optimization neglect the mixed uncertainties, which might result in an unstable design or even an infeasible design. To solve this issue, a response surface methodology-based hybrid robust design optimization(RSM-based HRDO) approach is proposed to improve the robustness of the quality characteristic for the CPCM via considering the mixed uncertainties in the robust design optimization. A bridge-type amplification mechanism is used to manifest the effectiveness of the proposed approach. 19A new method of continuous blood pressure monitoring using multichannel sensing signals on the wrist显示文摘Hypertension is a worldwide health problem and a primary risk factor for cardiovascular disease.Continuous monitoring of blood pressure has important clinical value for the early diagnosis and prevention of cardiovascular disease.However,existing technologies for wearable continuous blood pressure monitoring are usually inaccurate,rely on subject-specific calibration and have poor generalization across individuals,which limit their practical applications.Here,we report a new blood pressure measurement method and develop an associated wearable device to implement continuous blood pressure monitoring for new subjects.The wearable device detects cardiac output and pulse waveform features through dual photoplethysmography(PPG)sensors worn on the palmar and dorsal sides of the wrist,incorporating custom-made interface sensors to detect the wearing contact pressure and skin temperature.The detected multichannel signals are fused using a machine-learning algorithm to estimate continuous blood pressure in real time.This dual PPG sensing method effectively eliminates the personal differences in PPG signals caused by different people and different wearing conditions.The proposed wearable device enables continuous blood pressure monitoring with good generalizability across individuals and demonstrates promising potential in personal health care applications.Liangqi Wang Shuo Tian Rong Zhu 2023Microsystems & Nanoengineering2023,9,5:0
20Yunnan Revisited显示文摘THERE is an indissoluble bond between Yunnan and me. I first went there in 1970 after graduating from university in the coastal metropolis of Shanghai. 1 left for Beijing eight years later, when the reform and opening-up policy was in its infancy. It was not until March 2006 that the opportunity arose to revisit Yunnan's rural areas. I was prepared for dramatic changes after my 28-year absence. Those that I saw in the provincial capital of Kunming were only to be expected, but I was totally unprepared for the transformation I witnessed in the rural areas isolated from Kunming by the Hengduan Mountains, most notably in Simao City where 1 embarked on my career. Some were beneficial, others less so.
