| 1 | Poor performance of the modified early warning score for predicting mortality in critically ill patients presenting to an emergency department显示文摘BACKGROUND:This study was undertaken to validate the use of the modified early warning score(MEWS) as a predictor of patient mortality and intensive care unit(ICU)/ high dependency(HD)admission in an Asian population.METHODS:The MEWS was applied to a retrospective cohort of 1 024 critically ill patients presenting to a large Asian tertiary emergency department(ED) between November 2006 and December2007.Individual MEWS was calculated based on vital signs parameters on arrival at ED.Outcomes of mortality and ICU/HD admission were obtained from hospital records.The ability of the composite MEWS and its individual components to predict mortality within 30 days from ED visit was assessed.Sensitivity,specificity,positive and negative predictive values were derived and compared with values from other cohorts.A MEWS of ≥4 was chosen as the cut-off value for poor prognosis based on previous studies.RESULTS:A total of 311(30.4%) critically ill patients were presented with a MEWS ≥4.Their mean age was 61.4 years(SD 18.1) with a male to female ratio of 1.10.Of the 311 patients,53(17%)died within 30 days,64(20.6%) were admitted to ICU and 86(27.7%) were admitted to HD.The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.71 with a sensitivity of 53.0%and a specificity of 72.1%in addition to a positive predictive value(PPV) of 17.0%and a negative predictive value(NPV)of 93.4%(MEWS cut-off of ≥4) for predicting mortality.CONCLUSION:The composite MEWS did not perform well in predicting poor patient outcomes for critically ill patients presenting to an ED. | Le Onn Ho Huihua Li Nur Shahidah Zhi Xiong Koh Papia Sultana Marcus Eng Hock Ong | 2013 | World Journal of Emergency Medicine2013，4，4： | 12 |
| 2 | Value of a new stick-type rapid urine test for the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection in the Vietnamese population显示文摘AIM:To assess the value of a new test for the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori) infection,Rapirun H.pylori Antibody Stick(Rapirun Stick),in a Vietnamese population.METHODS:Eligible patients without previous history of H.pylori eradication were recruited.Rapid urease test(RUT) and histologic examination were used to diagnose the H.pylori infection.Patients were considered H.pylori positive when the RUT results were positive and/or the bacteria were detected histologically.Rapirun Stick tests were performed using urine samples,and the results were compared with the other 2 methods.RESULTS:We enrolled 200 patients with a mean age of 36(range,18-76) years.There were 116 females and 84 males.Of the 200 patients,111(55.5%) were diagnosed as being H.pylori positive.The sensitivity,specificity,and accuracy of the Stick test were 84.7%,89.9%,and 87.0%,respectively.There were 17(8.5%) falsenegative patients and 9(4.5%) false-positive patients.CONCLUSION:The Rapirun Stick test has high sensitivity,specificity,and accuracy for the diagnosis of H.pylori infection in the Vietnamese population.The test can be clinically applied in Vietnamese populations. | Duc T Quach Toru Hiyama Fumio Shimamoto Quang D Le Linh X Ho Nhu HT Vu Masaharu Yoshihara Naomi Uemura | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014，20，17： | 4 |
| 3 | Biodegradable magnesium pins enhanced the healing of transverse patellar fracture in rabbits显示文摘Displaced fractures of patella often require open reduction surgery and internal fixation to restore the extensor continuity and articular congruity.Fracture fixation with biodegradable magnesium(Mg)pins enhanced fracture healing.We hypothesized that fixation with Mg pins and their degradation over time would enhance healing of patellar fracture radiologically,mechanically,and histologically.Transverse patellar fracture surgery was performed on thirty-two 18-weeks old female New Zealand White Rabbits.The fracture was fixed with a pin made of stainless steel or pure Mg,and a figure-of-eight stainless steel band wire.Samples were harvested at week 8 or 12,and assessed with microCT,tensile testing,microindentation,and histology.Microarchitectural analysis showed that Mg group showed 12%higher in the ratio of bone volume to tissue volume at week 8,and 38.4%higher of bone volume at week 12.Tensile testing showed that the failure load and stiffness of Mg group were 66.9%and 104%higher than the control group at week 8,respectively.At week 12,Mg group was 60.8%higher in ultimate strength than the control group.Microindentation showed that,compared to the Control group,Mg group showed 49.9%higher Vickers hardness and 31%higher elastic modulus at week 8 and 12,respectively.At week 12,the new bone of Mg group remodelled to laminar bone,but those of the control group remained woven bone-like.Fixation of transverse patellar fracture with Mg pins and its degradation enhanced new bone formation and mechanical properties of the repaired patella compared to the Control group. | Dick Ho Kiu Chow Jiali Wang Peng Wan Lizhen Zheng Michael Tim Yun Ong Le Huang Wenxue Tong Lili Tan Ke Yang Ling Qin | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021，6，11： | 3 |
| 4 | Upconversion luminescence of Gd2O3:Er3+and Gd2O3:Er3+/silica nanophosphors fabricated by EDTA combustion method显示文摘Gd2O3:Er^3+nanophosphors were fabricated by the combustion method in presence of Na2 ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid(EDTA-Na2)as fuel at not high temperature(≤350℃)within a very short time of 5 min.The added concentration of Er^3+ions in Gd2O3 matrix was changed from 0.5 mol%to 5.0 mol%.The X-ray diffraction pattern of samples indicates the monoclinic structure of Gd2O3:Er^3+.The morphology and chemical composition analysis of the Gd2O3:Er^3+samples are characterized by a field emission scanning electron microscope(FESEM)and a Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer(FTIR).The photoluminescence(PL),photo luminescence excitation(PLE)and upconversion(UC)at room temperature of the prepared materials with different concentrations of Er^3+were investigated.The PL of Gd2O3:Er^3+nanomaterials are shown in visible at 545,594,623,648,688 nm under excitation at 275 nm.The emission bands from transitions of Er^3+from 2P3/2 to 4F9/2 are observed,UC luminescent spectra of the Gd2O3:Er^3+/silica nanocomposites under 976 nm excitation show the bands at 548 and 670 nm.The influence of excitation power at 980 nm for transitions were measured and calculated.The results indicate that the upconversion process of Gd2O3:Er^3+/silica is two photons absorption mechanism.The low temperature dependence of UC luminescent intensities of the main bands of Gd2O3:Er^3+was investigated towards development of a nanotemperature sensor in the range of 10-300 K. | Le Quoc Minh Tran Kim Anh Nguyen Duy Hung Pham Thi Minh Chau Nguyen Thi Quy Hai Ho Van Tuyen Vu Thi Thai Ha Vu Duc Tu Wieslaw Strek | 2019 | Journal of Rare Earths2019，37，11： | 2 |
