| 1 | Juvenile hominoid cranium from the terminal Miocene of Yunnan,China显示文摘Fossil apes are known from several late Miocene localities in Yunnan Province,southwestern China,principally from Shihuiba(Lufeng)and the Yuanmou Basin,and represent three species of Lufengpithecus.They mostly comprise large samples of isolated teeth,but there are also several partial or complete adult crania from Shihuiba and a single juvenile cranium from Yuanmou.Here we describe a new,relatively complete and largely undistorted juvenile cranium from the terminal Miocene locality of Shuitangba,also in Yunnan.It is only the second ape juvenile cranium recovered from the Miocene of Eurasia and it is provisionally assigned to the species present at Shihuiba,Lufengpithecus lufengensis.Lufengpithecus has most often been linked to the extant orangutan,Pongo pygmaeus,but recent studies of the crania from Shihuiba and Yuanmou have demonstrated that this is unlikely.The new cranium reinforces the view that Lufengpithecus represents a distinct,late surviving lineage of large apes in the late Miocene of East Asia that does not appear to be closely affiliated with any extant ape lineage.It substantially increases knowledge of cranial morphology in Lufengpithecus and demonstrates that species of this genus represent a morphologically diverse radiation of apes,which is consistent with the dynamic tectonic and biotic milieu of southwestern China in the late Miocene. | JI XuePing JABLONSKI Nina G SU Denise F DENG ChengLong FLYNN Lawrence J YOU YouShan KELLEY Jay | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,31: | 8 |
| 2 | Fossil seeds of Euryale(Nymphaeaceae) indicate a lake or swamp environment in the late Miocene Zhaotong Basin of southwestern China显示文摘Euryale(Nymphaeaceae) is a monotypic genus distributed in eastern Asia, but fossils in its native distribution are sparse as compared to Europe where the genus has disappeared. Here, we describe a new fossil species, Euryale yunnanensis sp. nov., from the late Miocene Zhaotong Basin in southwestern China on the basis of seed remains. Characteristics including an ellipsoidal to almost spherical shape,a smooth surface, a germination cap that covers the micropyle, the separation of the hilum and germination cap(micropyle), elliptic testa surface cells with undulate margins and thickened cell walls collectively indicate a close affinity with the genus Euryale in Nymphaeaceae. Comparisons ofseed morphology and anatomy demonstrate that the newly described fossil species differs from modern and other fossil species of Euryale and thus verify the assignment to a new fossil species. As the modern Euryale is an aquatic plant,preferably living in swamps and lakes with shallow and stable water, we hypothesize that a lake and/or swamp environment with shallow water was present near Shuitangba in the Zhaotong Basin, where the Shuitangba hominoid lived during the late Miocene. This inference is generally consistent with paleoenvironmental data extracted from avian, fish, frog, turtle and crocodile fossils, as well as from aquatic pollen. | 3 | Further geological and palaeoanthropological investigations at the Maludong hominin site, Yunnan Province, Southwest China显示文摘Three-dimensional mapping and section work undertaken by us in 2008 have identified 11 stratigraphic units at Maludong site.AMS radiocarbon dating of charcoal established an accurate and internally consistent age profile for the sequence of 17.8±0.2 ka to 13.2±0.1 ka.Archaeomagnetic analysis showed changes in externally derived pedogenically enhanced material consistent with a warming in climate between the cold period of Henrich Event 1 and the B lling-Aller d interstadial.Human remains recovered during the 1989 excavation were derived from a deposit dating to this interstadial,or between 14.3±0.3 ka and 13.5±0.1 ka.Anthropogenic features,including burnt rocks,baked sediment and thick charcoal and ash layers,were identified and examined through archaeomagnetic analysis.Two monkey fossils are described here,one of them being reassigned from Macaca robustus to M.aff.M.assamensis.They confirm the young age of the site and also show signs of anthropogenic alteration in the form of burning.Additional human cranial remains are reported for the first time and new data are provided for some specimens described previously.A range of new features is identified that strengthen the affinities of the Maludong remains to archaic humans.The presence of this globally unique mosaic of archaic and modern features raises important questions about human evolutionary history in East Asia during the Late Upper Pleistocene. | JI XuePing CURNOE Darren BAO ZhenDe HERRIES Andy I R FINK David ZHU YunSheng HELLSTROM John LUO Yun TACON Paul S C | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,35: | 3 |
| 4 | ADSORPTION OF LDL ON THE MODIFIED CHITOSAN显示文摘In this paper, the selective adsorption of LDL on chitosan modified with PEG and Asp. was studied. The adsorption rate of LDL and HDL on the double modified chitosan was 57% and 12% respectively. The results shown that the double modified chitosan can be used a adsorbent for selective binding to LDL. | 8 | Electrochemical Detection of Superoxide Anion Released by Living Cells by Manganese(Ⅲ) Tetraphenyl Porphine as Superoxide Dismutase Mimic显示文摘Superoxide anion,one of the most active reactive oxygen species,is associated with the development of many diseases.So monitoring superoxide anion in living cells is of great significance for the pathological research of many diseases.In this work,a new non-enzymatic sensor tor the detection of superoxide anion(O^·-2)was developed,which was iabricated by the nanocomposites composed of manganese(Ⅲ)tetraphenyl porphine(MnTPP)as superoxide dismutase mimic and electrochemical reduced graphene oxide(ERGO)as electrode support material to modify the glassy carbon electrode(GCE).The electrochemical behavior of the fabricated electrode(MiiTPP/ERGO/GCE)was performed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)and cyclic voltammetry(CV),which revealed that MnTPP/ERGO/GCE possessed good catalytic ability to theelectrochemical reduction of O^·-2.The MnTPP/ERGO/GCE showed excellent electroanalysis perfonnance towards O^·-2 using the technique of diflerential pulse voltanimetry(DPV)with a linear relationship in the range of 0.2—110.0μmol/L,a sensitivity of 445 μA· L·mmol^-1·cm^- 2 and a detection limit of 0.039 μmol/L(S/N=3).The real-time monitoring of O^·-2 from MCF-7 breast cancer cells stimulated by zymosan was realized in this work,which indicates that the MnTPP/ERGO/GCE hold potential application for electrochemical quantification of superoxide anions in biological applications. | CUI Min REN Jujie WEN Xiaofang LI Na XING Yifei ZHANG Cong HAN Yuanyuan JI Xueping | 2020 | Chemical Research in Chinese Universities2020,36,5: | 1 |
| 9 | Interplay of transcription factors and microRNAs during embryonic hematopoiesis显示文摘Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), which are localized in the bone marrow of adult mammals, come from hematopoietic endothelium during embryonic stages. Although the basic processes of HSC generation and differentiation have been described in the past, the epigenetic regulation of embryonic hematopoiesis remains to be fully described. Here, by utilizing an in vitro differentiation system of mouse embryonic stem cells (ESCs), we identified more than 20 microRNAs that were highly enriched in embryonic hematopoietic cells, including some (e.g. miR-10b, miR-15b, and miR-27a) with previously unknown functions in blood formation. Luciferase and gene expression assays further revealed combinational binding and regulation of these microRNAs by key transcription factors in blood cells. | 11 | A novel snail-inspired bionic design of titanium with strontium-substituted hydroxyapatite coating for promoting osseointegration显示文摘As the population ages,more and more people are suffering from osteoarthritis(OA),resulting in an increasing requirement for joint implants.Surface modification to improve the topology and composition of the implants has been proved to be an effective way to improve the primary stability and long-term success rate of joint implants.In this work,a bionic micro/nano-structure accompanied with a strontium-substituted hydroxyapatite(SrHA)coating was fabricated on titanium(Ti)surface via electrochemical corrosion,ultrasonic treatment,and hydrothermal deposition methods.Thein vitro study demonstrated that the bionic structure and the bioactive apatite could synergistically increase the expressions of integrin-related gene(ITGα5β1)and osteoblastic genes(Col-I and OCN),and thus promote osteoblast growth.In addition,owing to the anti-bone resorption property of Sr^(2+),the coating could effectively inhibit osteoclast differentiation and proliferation.In a word,the prepared samples not only promoted osteogenesis but also inhibited osteoclastogenesis.The in vivo experiment via a rabbit model found that the bionic structured surface provided the pore for new bone ingrowth,which was beneficial to the mechanical interlocking between the implant and bone.Moreover,the bionic structure and bioactive SrHA coating had a synergistic effect on promoting bone formation,osseointegration,and bone-implant bonding strength.This study therefore presented a new strategy to fabricate bio-functionalized Ti-based implants for potential application in orthopedics field. | Zhen Geng Xueping Li Luli Ji Zhaoyang Li Zhenduo Cui Jing Wang Jingyuan Cui Xianjin Yang Changsheng Liu | 2021 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,20: | 0 |
