| 1 | The Reference Genome of Tea Plant and Resequencing of 81 Diverse Accessions Provide Insights into Its Genome Evolution and Adaptation显示文摘Tea plant is an important economic crop,which is used to produce the world's oldest and most widely consumed tea beverages.Here,we present a high-quality reference genome assembly of the tea plant(Camellia sinensis var.sinensis)consisting of 15 pseudo-chromosomes.LTR retrotransposons(LTR-RTs)account for 70.38%of the genome,and we present evidence that LTR-RTS play critical roles in genome size expansion and the transcriptional diversification of tea plant genes through preferential insertion in promoter regions and introns.Genes,particularly those coding for terpene biosynthesis pro-teins,associated with tea aroma and stress resistance were significantly amplified through recent tandem duplications and exist as gene clusters in tea plant genome.Phylogenetic analysis of the sequences of 81 tea plant accessions with diverse origins revealed three well-differentiated tea plant populations,support-ing the proposition for the southwest origin of the Chinese cultivated tea plant and its later spread to western Asia through introduction.Domestication and modern breeding left significant signatures on hundreds of genes in the tea plant genome,particularly those associated with tea quality and stress resis-tance.The genomic sequences of the reported reference and resequenced tea plant accessions provide valuable resources for future functional genomics study and molecular breeding of improved cul-tivars of tea plants. | Enhua Xia Wei Tong Yan Hou Yanlin An Linbo Chen Qiong Wu Yunlong Liu Jie Yu Fangdong Li Ruopei Li Penghui Li Huijuan Zhao Ruoheng Ge Jin Huang Ali Inayat Mallano Yanrui Zhang Shengrui Liu Weiwei Deng Chuankui Song Zhaoliang Zhang Jian Zhao Shu Wei Zhengzhu Zhang Tao Xia Chaoling Wei Xiaochun Wan | 2020 | Molecular Plant2020,13,7: | 51 |
| 2 | Discovery of direct inhibitors of Keap1–Nrf2 protein–protein interaction as potential therapeutic and preventive agents显示文摘The Keap1–Nrf2–ARE pathway is an important antioxidant defense mechanism that protects cells from oxidative stress and the Keap1–Nrf2 protein–protein interaction(PPI) has become an important drug target to upregulate the expression of ARE-controlled cytoprotective oxidative stress response enzymes in the development of therapeutic and preventive agents for a number of diseases and conditions. However, most known Nrf2 activators/ARE inducers are indirect inhibitors of Keap1–Nrf2PPI and they are electrophilic species that act by modifying the sulfhydryl groups of Keap1's cysteine residues. The electrophilicity of these indirect inhibitors may cause 'off-target' side effects by reacting with cysteine residues of other important cellular proteins. Efforts have recently been focused on the development of direct inhibitors of Keap1–Nrf2 PPI. This article reviews these recent research efforts including the development of high throughput screening assays, the discovery of peptide and small molecule direct inhibitors, and the biophysical characterization of the binding of these inhibitors to the target Keap1 Kelch domain protein. | 3 | Altitude dependency of trends of daily climate extremes in southwestern China, 1961-2008显示文摘A total of 12 indices of temperature extremes and 11 indices of precipitation ex-tremes at 111 stations in southwestern China at altitudes of 285-4700 m were examined for the period 1961-2008. Significant correlations of temperature extremes and elevation in-cluded the trends of diurnal temperature range, frost days, ice days, cold night frequency and cold day frequency. Regional trends of growing season length, warm night frequency, coldest night and warmest night displayed a statistically significant positive correlation with altitude. These characteristics indicated the obvious warming with altitude. For precipitation extreme indices, only the trends of consecutive dry days, consecutive wet days, wet day precipitation and the number of heavy precipitation days had significant correlations with increasing alti-tude owing to the complex influence of atmospheric circulation. It also indicated the increased precipitation mainly at higher altitude areas, whereas the increase of extreme precipitation events mainly at lowers altitude. In addition, the clearly local influences are also crucial on climate extremes. | 8 | Removal characteristics of microplastics by Fe-based coagulants during drinking water treatment显示文摘Microplastics have caused great concern worldwide recently due to their ubiquitous presence within the marine environment. Up to now, most attention has been paid to their sources,distributions, measurement methods, and especially their eco-toxicological effects. With microplastics being increasingly detected in freshwater, it is urgently necessary to evaluate their behaviors during coagulation and ultrafiltration(UF) processes. Herein, the removal behavior of polyethylene(PE), which is easily suspended in water and is the main component of microplastics, was investigated with commonly used Fe-based salts. Results showed that although higher removal efficiency was induced for smaller PE particles, low PE removal efficiency(below 15%) was observed using the traditional coagulation process, and was little influenced by water characteristics. In comparison to solution pH, PAM addition played a more important role in increasing the removal efficiency, especially anionic PAM at high dosage(with efficiency up to 90.9%). The main reason was ascribed to the dense floc formation and high adsorption ability because of the positively charged Fe-based flocs under neutral conditions. For ultrafiltration, although PE particles could be completely rejected,slight membrane fouling was caused owing to their large particle size. The membrane flux decreased after coagulation; however, the membrane fouling was less severe than that induced by flocs alone due to the heterogeneous nature of the cake layer caused by PE, even at high dosages of Fe-based salts. | 10 | Acute cerebrovascular disease following COVID-19: a single center, retrospective, observational study显示文摘Background and purpose COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).Apart from respiratory complications,acute cerebrovascular disease(CVD)has been observed in some patients with COVID-19.Therefore,we described the clinical characteristics,laboratory features,treatment and outcomes of CVD complicating SARS-CoV-2 infection.Materials and methods Demographic and clinical characteristics,laboratory findings,treatments and clinical outcomes were collected and analysed.Clinical characteristics and laboratory findings of patients with COVID-19 with or without new-onset CVD were compared.Results Of 219 patients with COVID-19,10(4.6%)developed acute ischaemic stroke and 1(0.5%)had intracerebral haemorrhage.COVID-19 with new onset of CVD were significantly older(75.7±10.8 years vs 52.1±15.3 years,p<0.001),more likely to present with severe COVID-19(81.8%vs 39.9%,p<0.01)and were more likely to have cardiovascular risk factors,including hypertension,diabetes and medical history of CVD(all p<0.05).In addition,they were more likely to have increased inflammatory response and hypercoagulable state as reflected in C reactive protein(51.1(1.3-127.9)vs 12.1(0.1-212.0)mg/L,p<0.05)and D-dimer(6.9(0.3-20.0)vs 0.5(0.1-20.0)mg/L,p<0.001).Of 10 patients with ischemic stroke;6 received antiplatelet treatment with aspirin or clopidogrel;and 3 of them died.The other four patients received anticoagulant treatment with enoxaparin and 2 of them died.As of 24 March 2020,six patients with CVD died(54.5%).Conclusion Acute CVD is not uncommon in COVID-19.Our findings suggest that older patients with risk factors are more likely to develop CVD.The development of CVD is an important negative prognostic factor which requires further study to identify optimal management strategy to combat the COVID-19 outbreak. | Yanan Li Man Li Mengdie Wang Yifan Zhou Jiang Chang Ying Xian David Wang Ling Mao Huijuan Jin Bo Hu | 2020 | Stroke & Vascular Neurology2020,5,3: | 22 |

| 12 | Patterns of shrub species richness and abundance in relation to environmental factors on the Alxa Plateau:Prerequisites for conserving shrub diversity in extreme arid desert regions显示文摘Shrub species are considered the dominant plants in arid desert ecosystems,unlike in semiarid steppe zones or in grassland ecosystems.On the Alxa Plateau,northern China,sparse vegetation with cover ranging from 15% to 30% is characterized mainly by multifarious shrubs because herbaceous species are strongly restricted by the extreme drought climate,wind erosion,overgrazing and sand burial.Patterns in shrub species richness and species abundance in relation to environmental conditions were examined by DCA(detrended correspondence analysis) and interpreted by a biplot.The rela-tionships between species diversity and environmental factors were examined using regression analyses.Our results show that the distributions of the shrub species in response to environmental conditions can be grouped into four ecological types,corresponding with the biological traits of the shrubs and their responses to the gradients of soil texture and soil water content.Patterns in species richness and species abundance were mainly determined by the deeper soil water content,instead of the soil texture as hypothesized by numerous studies in semiarid grasslands.With exception of the deeper soil water content,soil organic matter and total N content were positively correlated with species abundance,while pH was negatively correlated with it.These findings imply that it is vital for cur-rent shrub diversity conservation to reduce agricultural water use in the middle reaches of the Heihe River,which supplies water for the lower reaches in the western parts of the plateau,and to reduce the amount of groundwater exploitation and urban and oasis water use,to increase the water supply from Helan Mountain to the eastern desert of the Alxa Plateau. | XinRong Li HuiJuan Tan MingZhu He XinPing Wang XiaoJun Li | 2009 | Science China Earth Sciences2009,52,5: | 17 |

| 17 | Effects of salidroside on glioma formation and growth inhibition together with improvement of tumor microenvironment显示文摘Objective:To test the effects of salidroside on formation and growth of glioma together with tumor microenvironment.Methods:Salidroside extracted from Rhodiola rosea was purified and treated on human glioma cells U251 at the concentration of 20μg/mL.3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-dephenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT)assay for cytotoxicity and flow cytometry(FCM)for cell cycle analysis were performed.Then for in vivo study,xenotransplantation tumor model in nude mice was generated and treated with salidroside at the concentration of 50 mg/kg.d for totally 20 d.Body weight and tumor size were detected every 2 d after the treatment.The levels of 8-isoprostane,superoxide dismutase(SOD)and malondialdehyde(MDA),special markers for oxidative stress,were detected while immunofluoresence staining was performed for astrocyte detection.Results:For in vitro study,salidroside could decrease the viability of human glioma cells U251 and the growth of U251 cells at G0/G1checkpoint during the cell cycle.For in vivo study,salidroside could also inhibit the growth of human glioma tissue in nude mice.The body weight of these nude mice treated with salidroside did not decrease as quickly as control group.In the tumor xenotransplantation nude mice model,mice were found of inhibition of oxidative stress by detection of biomarkers.Furthermore,overgrowth of astrocytes due to the stimulation of oxidative stress in the cortex of brain was inhibited after the treatment of salidroside.Conclusions:Salidroside could inhibit the formation and growth of glioma both in vivo and in vitro and improve the tumor microenvironment via inhibition of oxidative stress and astrocytes. | Yanshan Zhang Yunyi Yao Huijuan Wang Yanqin Guo Hui Zhang Liang Chen | 2013 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2013,25,5: | 14 |
| 18 | Meta-analysis of cognitive function in Chinese first-episode schizophrenia: MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB) profile of impairment显示文摘Background Compromised neurocognition is a core feature of schizophrenia. With increasing studies researching cognitive function of Chinese patients with first-episode schizophrenia (FES) using MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB), it is not clear about the level and pattern of cognitive impairment among this population. Aim To provide a meta-analysis systematically analysing studies of neurocognitive function using MCCB in Chinese patients with FES. Methods An independent literature search of both Chinese and English databases up to 13 March 2019 was conducted by two reviewers. Standardised mean difference (SMD) was calculated using the random effects model to evaluate the effect size. Results 56 studies (FES=3167, healthy controls (HC)=3017) were included and analysed. No study was rated as 'high quality' according to Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology. Compared with HCs, Chinese patients with FES showed impairment with large effect size in overall cognition (SMD=-1.60,95% Cl -1.82 to -1.38,厂=67%) and all seven cognitive domains, with the SMD ranging from -0.87 to -1.41. In nine MCCB subtests, patients with FES showed significant difference in Symbol Coding (SMD=-1.90), Trail Making Test (TMT)(SMD=-1.36), Continuous Performance Test-Identical Pairs (SMD=-1.33), Hopkins Verbal Learning Test (SMD=-1.24), Brief Visuospatial Memory Test (SMD=-1.18), Mazes (SMD=-1.16), Category Fluency (SMD=-1.01), Spatial Span (SMD=-0.69) and Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (SMD=-0.38). Conclusions Our meta-analysis demonstrates that Chinese patients with FES show neurocognitive deficits across all seven MCCB cognitive domains and all nine subtests, particularly in two neurocognitive domains: speed of processing and attention/vigilance, with the least impairment shown in social cognition. | 19 | Removal of tetracycline from water by Fe-Mn binary oxide显示文摘Significant concerns have been raised over the presence of antibiotics including tetracyclines in aquatic environments.A series of FeMn binary oxide with different Fe:Mn molar ratios was synthesized by a simultaneous oxidation and coprecipitation process for TC removal.Results showed that Fe-Mn binary oxide had higher removal efficiency than that of hydrous iron oxide and hydrous manganese oxide,and that the oxide with a Fe:Mn molar ratio of 5:1 was the best in removal than other molar ratios.The tetracycline removal was highly pH dependent.The removal of tetracycline decreased with the increase of initial concentration,but the absolute removal quantity was more at high concentration.The presence of cations and anions such as Ca2+,Mg2+,CO32-and SO42-had no significant effect on the tetracycline removal in our experimental conditions,while SiO32-and PO43-had hindered the adsorption of tetracycline.The mechanism investigation found that tetracycline removal was mainly achieved by the replacement of surface hydroxyl groups by the tetracycline species and formation of surface complexes at the water/oxide interface.This primary study suggests that Fe-Mn binary oxide with a proper Fe:Mn molar ratio will be a very promising material for the removal of tetracycline from aqueous solutions. | Huijuan Liu Yang Yang Jin Kang Maohong Fan Jiuhui Qu | 2012 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,2: | 13 |
| 20 | Characterization of dissolved organic matter fractions and its relationship with the disinfection by-product formation显示文摘Dissolved organic matter(DOM) has been identified as precursor for disinfection by-products(DBPs) formation during chlorination. Recently,it has been demonstrated that the characteristics of DOM influence the DBPs formation mechanism. A study was,therefore,initiated to investigate the effects of DOM fractions on DBPs formation mechanism. In the chlorination process,organic acids are dominant precursors of total thihalomethanes(TTHM) because of the νC-O and unsaturated structures. Furthermore,the TTHM formation of organic acids was affected by pH more greatly. Based on the fluorescence spectroscopy analysis,DOM fractions contained several fluorescence substances. During chlorination,humic acid-like substances were found to exhibit high chlorine reactivity and hydrophobic organics decomposed to smaller molecules faster than hydrophilic organics even at lower chlorine dosages.
