1Mesozoic contraction deformation in the Yanshan and northern Taihang mountains and its implications to the destruction of the North China Craton显示文摘Mesozoic contraction deformation in the Yanshan and Taihang mountains is characterized by basement-involved thrust tectonics,basement-cored buckling anticlines and ductile thrust and nappe tectonics.Most of these deformations are orientated west-east,west-northwest and northeast to north-northeast.The contraction deformations began in the Permian,continued through the Triassic and Jurassic and terminated in the Early Cretaceous,and constitute an important part of the destruction of the North China Craton.It is estimated,from balanced cross-section reconstructions,that the north-south shortening of the central part of the Yanshan belt before 135 Ma was around 38%.The initial crust thickness,pre-dating the major contraction deformation in late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic,was estimated to be around 35 km based on paleogeographic characteristics.Assuming that the inferred depth of ductile thrusting deformation,20-25 km,was the crust thickness involved in the contraction deformation,and also assuming that the N-S contraction deformation was accommodated by vertical crust thickening,the thickness of the crust after the contraction deformation was expected to be around 47-50 km.This was the approximate crust thickness required for the eclogitization of the lower crust for delamination.The gravity potential accumulated by the isostatic uplift of the thickened crust,together with the decrease in crustal strength caused by the coeval magmatisms associated with the contraction deformation,led to the subsequent extensional collapse of the middle and upper crust although the regional stress regime associated with the plate interactions remained constant.It is inferred that the Mesozoic contraction deformations in the Yanshan and Taihang mountains were not only a significant tectonic process contributing to the destruction of the craton in middle and upper crust but also stimulated delamination at a deep level and the extension of the shallow crust.In other words,both the suspected delamination of the lower crust and upper mantle and the well constrained extension deformations of the shallow crust in the eastern North China Craton during the late Mesozoic are a consequence of crust thickening due to previous contractions.Extensional deformations could be expected to occur independently in the shallow crust,and are not necessarily associated with or responding to delamination at a deep level.ZHANG ChangHou LI ChengMing DENG HongLing LIU Yang LIU Lei WEI Bo LI HanBin LIU Zi 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,6:40
2Study on Multi-Scale Blending Initial Condition Perturbations for a Regional Ensemble Prediction System显示文摘An initial conditions(ICs) perturbation method was developed with the aim to improve an operational regional ensemble prediction system(REPS). Three issues were identified and investigated:(1) the impacts of perturbation scale on the ensemble spread and forecast skill of the REPS;(2) the scale characteristic of the IC perturbations of the REPS; and(3) whether the REPS's skill could be improved by adding large-scale information to the IC perturbations. Numerical experiments were conducted to reveal the impact of perturbation scale on the ensemble spread and forecast skill. The scales of IC perturbations from the REPS and an operational global ensemble prediction system(GEPS) were analyzed. A 'multi-scale blending'(MSB) IC perturbation scheme was developed, and the main findings can be summarized as follows: The growth rates of the ensemble spread of the REPS are sensitive to the scale of the IC perturbations; the ensemble forecast skills can benefit from large-scale perturbations; the global ensemble IC perturbations exhibit more power at larger scales, while the regional ensemble IC perturbations contain more power at smaller scales; the MSB method can generate IC perturbations by combining the small-scale component from the REPS and the large-scale component from the GEPS; the energy norm growth of the MSB-generated perturbations can be appropriate at all forecast lead times; and the MSB-based REPS shows higher skill than the original system, as determined by ensemble forecast verification.ZHANG Hanbin CHEN Jing ZHI Xiefei WANG Yi WANG Yanan 2015Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2015,32,8:29
3Weathering of Pisha-Sandstones in the Wind-Water Erosion Crisscross Region on the Loess Plateau显示文摘Two types of pisha-sandstones of purple sandstones and gray sandstones,widely distributing in the wind-water erosion crisscross region of China,were selected and used in laboratory experiments for a better understanding of the drying-wetting-freezing weathering process resulting from the apportionment of water or salt solution to rock samples.Weathering experiments were carried out under the conditions of environment control(including temperature,moisture and salt solution).All rock samples were frequently subjected to 140 drying-wetting-freezing cycles.The influences of weathering process were evaluated.It was found that the different treatments of moisture and salt solution applications could affect the nature of the weathering products resulting from drying-wetting-freezing.It was also observed that salt solution could effectively alleviate the weathering of pisha-sandstones.Although not all the observations could be explained,it was apparent that simulated environmental factors had both direct and indirect effects on the weathering of rocks.NI Hanbin ZHANG Liping ZHANG Dengrong WU Xiyuan FU Xingtao 2008Journal of Mountain Science2008,5,4:11
4Effects of annealing temperature and time on microstructure and magnetic properties of Pr-Co thin films显示文摘A series of Pr-Co thin films were deposited on the Si (100) substrates with Cr underlayer by magnetron sputtering. The effects of both the post-annealing temperature and the annealing time on the microstructure and magnetic properties for the Pr-Co films were studied systemati- cally. The as-deposited Pr-Co thin films are mostly amorphous and tend to crystallize after annealing at temperatures above 600 C. When the annealing time is increased, the films show a complicated structure with various phases coexisting. Accordingly, the as-deposited film and low temperature annealed films are soft magnets and films annealed at temperatures beyond 600 C tend to be hard magnets. When the annealing time is increased from 5 min to 2 h, the films transfer from hard magnets to soft again. 5Growth and magnetic properties of single crystalline Ni nanowire arrays prepared by pulse DC electrodeposition显示文摘Highly textured Ni nanowire arrays were fabricated into anodic aluminum oxide(AAO) templates by pulse DC electrodeposition.The applied voltage and pH value of electrolytes were found strongly affecting the microstructure and magnetic properties of Ni nanowire arrays.Low applied potential and pH value both prefer to form polycrystalline fcc Ni nanowires.Increasing the applied potential or pH value favors the Ni [220] texture and even eventually forms the [220] oriented single crystal Ni wires,while exorbitant potential and pH value will conversely weaken the texture of nanowires.The magnetic properties of Ni wires are closely related to the microstructure of Ni nanowire arrays and large coercivities more than 1000 Oe were achieved at single crystalline Ni nanowire arrays.The mechanisms for the effect of applied potential and pH value on the grain size,texture and magnetic properties of Ni nanowire arrays have been discussed.ZHANG Jun JIN YaXin WANG HanBin YE Cong TONG WeiMing WANG Hao 2011Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2011,54,7:4
6Bulk nanocrystalline Al prepared by cryomilling显示文摘Bulk nanocrystalline Al was fabricated by mechanically milling at cryogenic temperature (cryomilling) and then by hot pressing in vacuum. By using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), the microstructure evolution of the material during cryomilling and consolidation was investigated. With increasing the mill- ing time, the grain size decreased sharply and reduced to 42 nm when cryomilled for 12 h. The grains had grown up, and the colum- nar grain was formed under the hot pressing and extrusion compared with the cryomilled powders. The grain size of as-extruded specimen was approximately 300-500 nm. The reason of high thermal stability of this bulk was attributed primarily to the Zener pin- ning from the grain boundary of the AlN arising from cryomilling and the solute drag of the impurity. Tensile tests show that the strength of nanocrystalline Al is enhanced with decreasing grain size. The ultimate tensile strength and tensile elongation were 173 MPa and 17.5%, respectively. 7A New Record of Kaloula(Amphibia: Anura: Microhylidae) in Shanghai, China显示文摘We discovered a medium-sized species of narrow-mouthed frog of the genus Kaloula in June and September 2014 during municipal surveys of amphibians in Shanghai. Three narrow-mouthed frogs were collected in city drains of the Binjiang Forest Park, Shanghai. Based on subsequent examination and morphological characters, these specimens were identified as Kaloula borealis(Barbour, 1908). The species was mainly distributed in Northern China and Korea. It is a new amphibian record for Shanghai. We found the visible differences in male secondary sexual characteristics between our specimens and Beijing specimens. 8Tiny noise,big mistakes:adversarial perturbations induce errors in brain-computer interface spellers显示文摘An electroencephalogram(EEG)-based brain-computer interface(BCI)speller allows a user to input text to a computer by thought.It is particularly useful to severely disabled individuals,e.g.amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients,who have no other effective means of communication with another person or a computer.Most studies so far focused on making EEG-based BCI spellers faster and more reliable;however,few have considered their security.This study,for the first time,shows that P300 and steady-state visual evoked potential BCI spellers are very vulnerable,i.e.they can be severely attacked by adversarial perturbations,which are too tiny to be noticed when added to EEG signals,but can mislead the spellers to spell anything the attacker wants.The consequence could range from merely user frustration to severe misdiagnosis in clinical applications.We hope our research can attract more attention to the security of EEG-based BCI spellers,and more broadly,EEG-based BCIs,which has received little attention before.Xiao Zhang Dongrui Wu Lieyun Ding Hanbin Luo Chin-Teng Lin Tzyy-Ping Jung Ricardo Chavarriaga 2021National Science Review2021,8,4:2
9Oxygen‑Defect Enhanced Anion Adsorption Energy Toward Super‑Rate and Durable Cathode for Ni–Zn Batteries显示文摘The alkaline zinc-based batteries with high energy density are becoming a research hotspot.However,the poor cycle stability and low-rate performance limit their wide application.Herein,ultra-thin CoNiO2 nanosheet with rich oxygen defects anchored on the vertically arranged Ni nanotube arrays(Od-CNO@Ni NTs)is used as a positive material for rechargeable alkaline Ni–Zn batteries.As the highly uniform Ni nanotube arrays provide a fast electron/ion transport path and abundant active sites,the Od-CNO@Ni NTs electrode delivers excellent capacity(432.7 mAh g^(−1))and rate capability(218.3 mAh g^(−1) at 60 A g^(−1)).Moreover,our Od-CNO@Ni NTs//Zn battery is capable of an ultra-long lifespan(93.0%of initial capacity after 5000 cycles),extremely high energy density of 547.5 Wh kg^(−1) and power density of 92.9 kW kg^(−1)(based on the mass of cathode active substance).Meanwhile,the theoretical calculations reveal that the oxygen defects can enhance the interaction between electrode surface and electrolyte ions,contributing to higher capacity.This work opens a reasonable idea for the development of ultra-durable,ultra-fast,and high-energy Ni–Zn battery.Jia Yao Houzhao Wan Chi Chen Jie Ji Nengze Wang Zhaohan Zheng Jinxia Duan Xunying Wang Guokun Ma Li Tao Hanbin Wang Jun Zhang Hao Wang 2021Nano-Micro Letters2021,13,11:2
10Cigarette smoke‑induced malignant transformation via STAT3 signalling in pulmonary epithelial cells in a lung‑on‑a‑chip model显示文摘Background Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)is a severe public health problem.Cigarette smoke(CS)is a risk factor for COPD and lung cancer.The underlying molecular mechanisms of CS-induced malignant transformation of bronchial epithelial cells remain unclear.In this study,we describe a lung-on-a-chip to explore the possible mechanistic link between cigarette smoke extract(CSE)-associated COPD and lung cancer.Methods An in vitro lung-on-a-chip model was used to simulate pulmonary epithelial cells and vascular endothelial cells with CSE.The levels of IL-6 and TNF-αwere tested as indicators of inflammation using an enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay.Apical junction complex mRNA expression was detected with qRT-PCR as the index of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition(EMT).The effects of CSE on the phosphorylation of signal transduction and transcriptional activator 3(STAT3)were detected by Western blotting.Flow cytometry was performed to investigate the effects of this proto-oncogene on cell cycle distribution.Results Inflammation caused by CSE was achieved in a lung-on-a-chip model with a mimetic movement.CSE exposure induced the degradation of intercellular connections and triggered the EMT process.CSE exposure also activated the phosphorylation of proto-oncogene STAT3,while these effects were inhibited with HJC0152.Conclusions CSE exposure in the lung-on-a-chip model caused activation of STAT3 in epithelial cells and endothelial cells.HJC0152,an inhibitor of activated STAT3,could be a potential treatment for CS-associated COPD and lung cancer.Wei Hou Siyi Hu Ken‑tye Yong Jie Zhang Hanbin Ma 2020Bio-Design and Manufacturing2020,3,4:1

13Synthesis and magnetic properties of CoPt nanoparticles显示文摘CoPt nanoparticles were prepared by simultaneous thermally reducing Co(CH3COO)2 and Pt(acac)2 in oleylamine with a small quantity of oleic acid. The composition of the particles was controlled by changing the amount of the reactants. Transmission electronic microscopy reveals that Co48Pt52 particles with an average diameter of 8.4 nm are steadily dispersed in octane in the presence of oleylamine and oleic acid. Selected area electron diffraction indicates that the as-prepared particles have a face center cubic structure. Magnetic properties of these particles measured by a vibrate sample magnetometer yield a coercivity of 1.194×104 A·m-1 and a saturation magnetization of 5.3 emu·g-1. 15Nanoplatforms for Sepsis Management: Rapid Detection/Warning, Pathogen Elimination and Restoring Immune Homeostasis显示文摘Sepsis,a highly life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by uncontrollable immune responses to infection,is a leading contributor to mortality in intensive care units.Sepsis-related deaths have been reported to account for 19.7%of all global deaths.However,no effective and specific therapeutic for clinical sepsis management is available due to the complex pathogenesis.Concurrently eliminating infections and restoring immune homeostasis are regarded as the core strategies to manage sepsis.Sophisticated nanoplatforms guided by supramolecular and medicinal chemistry,targeting infection and/or imbalanced immune responses,have emerged as potent tools to combat sepsis by supporting more accurate diagnosis and precision treatment.Nanoplatforms can overcome the barriers faced by clinical strategies,including delayed diagnosis,drug resistance and incapacity to manage immune disorders.Here,we present a comprehensive review highlighting the pathogenetic characteristics of sepsis and future therapeutic concepts,summarizing the progress of these well-designed nanoplatforms in sepsis management and discussing the ongoing challenges and perspectives regarding future potential therapies.Based on these state-of-the-art studies,this review will advance multidisciplinary collaboration and drive clinical translation to remedy sepsis.Gan Luo Jue Zhang Yaqi Sun Ya Wang Hanbin Wang Baoli Cheng Qiang Shu Xiangming Fang 2021Nano-Micro Letters2021,13,6:1

20Rice yellow stunt virus activates polyamine biosynthesis to promote viral propagation in insect vectors by disrupting ornithine decarboxylase antienzyme function显示文摘Intracellular polyamines(putrescine,spermidine,and spermine)have emerged as important molecules for viral infection;however,how viruses activate polyamines biosynthesis to promote viral infection remains unclear.Ornithine decarboxylase 1(ODC1)and its antienzyme 1(OAZ1)are major regulators of polyamine biosynthesis in animal cells.Here,we report that rice yellow stunt virus(RYSV),a plant rhabdovirus,could activate putrescine biosynthesis in leafhoppers to promote viral propagation by inhibiting OAZ1 expression.We observed that the reduction of putrescine biosynthesis by treatment with difluormethylornithine(DFMO),a specific nontoxic inhibitor of ODC1,or with in vitro synthesized dsRNAs targeting ODC1 mRNA could inhibit viral infection.In contrast,the supplement of putrescine or the increase of putrescine biosynthesis by treatment with ds RNAs targeting OAZ1 mRNA could facilitate viral infection.We further determined that both RYSV matrix protein M and ODC1 directly bind to the ODC-binding domain at the C-terminus of OAZ1.Thus,viral propagation in leafhoppers would decrease the ability of OAZ1 to target and mediate the degradation of ODC1,which finally activates putrescine production to benefit viral propagation.This work reveals that polyamine-metabolizing enzymes are directly exploited by a vector-borne virus to increase polyamine production,thereby facilitating viral infection in insect vectors.Xiao-Feng Zhang Tianbao Zeng Yunjie Xie Yuemin Zheng Huanqin Wang Hanbin Lin Zongwen Wang Taiyun Wei 2021Science China(Life Sciences)2021,64,9:0
