| 6 | Optimal analytical and numerical approximations to the(un)forced(un)damped parametric pendulum oscillator显示文摘The(un)forced(un)damped parametric pendulum oscillator(PPO)is analyzed analytically and numerically using some simple, effective, and more accurate techniques. In the first technique, the ansatz method is employed for analyzing the unforced damped PPO and for deriving some optimal and accurate analytical approximations in the form of angular Mathieu functions. In the second approach, some approximations to(un)forced damped PPO are obtained in the form of trigonometric functions using the ansatz method. In the third approach,He’s frequency-amplitude principle is applied for deriving some approximations to the(un)damped PPO.In the forth approach,He’s homotopy technique is employed for analyzing the forced(un)damped PPO numerically. In the fifth approach, the p-solution Method, which is constructed based on Krylov–Bogoliúbov Mitropolsky method,is introduced for deriving an approximation to the forced damped PPO.In the final approach, the hybrid Padé-finite difference method is carried out for analyzing the damped PPO numerically. All proposed techniques are compared to the fourth-order Runge–Kutta(RK4)numerical solution. Moreover, the global maximum residual distance error is estimated for checking the accuracy of the obtained approximations. The proposed methodologies and approximations can help many researchers in studying and investigating several nonlinear phenomena related to the oscillations that can arise in various branches of science,e.g.waves and oscillations in plasma physics. | Haifa A Alyousef M R Alharthi Alvaro H Salas S A El-Tantawy | 2022 | Communications in Theoretical Physics2022,74,10: | 0 |
| 7 | Effects of cumulative COVID-19 cases on mental health:Evidence from multi-country survey显示文摘BACKGROUND Depression and anxiety were both ranked among the top 25 leading causes of global burden of diseases in 2019 prior to the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.The pandemic affected, and in many cases threatened, the health and lives of millions of people across the globe and within the first year, global prevalence of anxiety and depression increased by 25%with the greatest influx in places highly affected by COVID-19.AIM To explore the psychological impact of the pandemic and resultant restrictions in different countries using an opportunistic sample and online questionnaire in different phases of the pandemic.METHODS A repeated,cross-sectional online international survey of adults,16 years and above, was carried out in 10 countries(United Kingdom,India,Canada,Bangladesh,Ukraine,Hong Kong,Pakistan,Egypt,Bahrain,Saudi Arabia). The online questionnaire was based on published approaches to understand the psychological impact of COVID-19 and the resultant restrictions.Five standardised measures were included to explore levels of depression[patient health questionnaire(PHQ-9)],anxiety[generalized anxiety disorder(GAD)assessment],impact of trauma[the impact of events scale-revised(IES-R)],loneliness(a brief loneliness scale),and social support(The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social support).RESULTS There were two rounds of the online survey in 10 countries with 42866 participants in Round 1 and 92260 in Round 2.The largest number of participants recruited from the United Kingdom(112985 overall). The majority of participants reported receiving no support from mental health services throughout the pandemic. This study found that the daily cumulative COVID-19 cases had a statistically significant effect on PHQ-9,GAD-7,and IES-R scores. These scores significantly increased in the second round of surveys with the ordinary least squares regression results with regression discontinuity design specification(to control lockdown effects)confirming these results. The study findings imply that participants’mental health worsened with high cumulative COVID-19 cases.CONCLUSION Whist we are still living through the impact of COVID-19,this paper focuses on its impact on mental health, discusses the possible consequences and future implications. This study revealed that daily cumulative COVID-19 cases have a significant impact on depression, anxiety, and trauma.Increasing cumulative cases influenced and impacted education, employment, socialization and finances,to name but a few.Building a database of global evidence will allow for future planning of pandemics, particularly the impact on mental health of populations considering the cultural differences. | Shanaya Rathod Saseendran Pallikadavath Elizabeth Graves Mohammad M Rahman Ashlea Brooks Pranay Rathod Rachna Bhargava Muhammad Irfan Reham Aly Haifa Mohammad Saleh Al Gahtani Zahwa Salam Steven Wai Ho Chau Theone S E Paterson Brianna Turner Viktoria Gorbunova Vitaly Klymchuk Peter Phiri | 2023 | World Journal of Psychiatry2023,13,7: | 0 |
| 8 | Spinal cord injury regeneration using autologous bone marrowderived neurocytes and rat embryonic stem cells:A comparative study in rats显示文摘BACKGROUND Spinal cord injury(SCI)is an important cause of traumatic paralysis and is mainly due to motor vehicle accidents. However, there is no definite treatment for spinal cord damage.AIM To assess the outcome of rat embryonic stem cells(rESC)and autologous bone marrow-derived neurocytes(ABMDN)treatment in iatrogenic SCI created in rats, and to compare the efficacy of the two different cell types.METHODS The study comprised 45 male Wistar rats weighing between 250 and 300 g,which were divided into three groups, the control,rESC and ABMDN groups. The anesthetized animals underwent exposure of the thoracic 8th to lumbar 1st vertebrae.A T10-thoracic 12th vertebrae laminectomy was performed to expose the spinal cord.A drop-weight injury using a 10 g weight from a height of 25 cm onto the exposed spinal cord was conducted. The wound was closed in layers. The urinary bladder was manually evacuated twice daily and after each evacuation Ringer lactate 5 mL/100 g was administered, twice daily after each bladder evacuation for the first 7 postoperative days.On the 10th day,the rats underwent nerve conduction studies and behavioral assessment[Basso,Beattie,Brenham(BBB)]to confirm paraplegia.Rat embryonic stem cells,ABMDN and saline were injected on the 10th day.The animals were euthanized after 8 wk and the spinal cord was isolated, removed and placed in 2%formalin for histopathological analysis to assess the healing of neural tissues at the axonal level.RESULTS All the animals tolerated the procedure well. The BBB scale scoring showed that at the end of the first week no recovery was observed in the groups.Post-injection,there was a strong and significant improvement in rats receiving rESC and ABMDN as compared to the control group based on the BBB scale, and the Trainof-four-Watch SX acceleromyography device exhibited statistically significant(P<0.0001)regeneration of neural tissue after SCI.Histological evaluation of the spinal cord showed maximum vacuolization and least gliosis in the control group compared to the rESC and ABMDN treated animals. In the ABMDN group, limited vacuolization and more prominent gliosis were observed in all specimens as compared to the control and rESC groups.CONCLUSION This study provided strong evidence to support that transplantation of rESC and ABMDN can improve functional recovery after iatrogenic SCI.The transplanted cells showed a beneficial therapeutic effect when compared to the control group. | Mir Sadat-Ali Dakheel A Al-Dakheel Ayesha Ahmed Haifa A Al-Turki Abdallah S Al-Omran Sadananda Acharya Methal I Al-Bayat | 2020 | World Journal of Stem Cells2020,12,12: | 0 |
