Multiple evidences indicate no relationship between prehistoric disasters in Lajia site and outburst flood in upper Yellow River valley, China显示文摘All around the world, ancient legends exist about the Great Flood, and the influence of the Great Flood in human evolutionary history is a hotly debated topic. In China, the legend of the prehistoric Great Flood and Yu the Great's flood control has a long history and is considered to be closely linked to the establishment of the Xia Dynasty. However, there is a lack of solid scientific evidence. Against this issue, some scholars have proposed that an earthquake around 1920 BCE in the Guanting Basin along the upper reaches of the Yellow River led to the creation of a lake by damming in the Jishi Gorge and that the outburst of water from that lake led to the massive flood in the Yellow River region. These studies provided new scientific evidence for the Chinese legend. In this paper, we date skeletal samples embedded in earthquake sand blasting from the Lajia site, analyze remains from natural disasters(such as earthquakes and floods) and also archaeological remains. In addition, we compared the skeletal samples dating with that of sediments from the dammed-up lake. Our results are inconsistent with those of previous scholars. The earthquake at the Lajia site occurred no earlier than 1800 BCE, and the dammed-up lake in Jishi Gorge had disappeared by 3600 BCE. Thus, the formation and outburst of the dammed lake, the sudden death of ancient humans at the Lajia site and the ancient earthquake were independent events occurring at different times. In addition, the massive flood in the upper reaches of the Yellow River did not actually happen. Thus, we argue against and invalidate the hypothesis that the massive flood was related to Yu the Great's flood control and the establishment of the Xia Dynasty.DONG GuangHui ZHANG FanYu LIU FengWen ZHANG DongJu ZHOU AiFeng YANG YiShi WANG GongHui 2018Science China Earth Sciences2018,61,4:7
The characteristics of recycling gas drilling technology显示文摘Recycling gas drilling is a new drilling technology. This paper can be divided into three parts, with the purpose of introducing and analyzing the characteristics of this new technology. First, the major equipment characteristic of this technology was introduced. Secondly, compared with conventional gas drilling, Angel's model was used to analyze the wellbore flow characteristics. Due to the closed loop and the effect of back pressure caused by the equipment, the gas flow rate decreases dramatically during drilling. Apart from this, it is also found that the kinetic energy at the casing shoe is always smaller than that at the top of the collar. The proposing of the drilling limit concept points out the basic difference between the two gas drilling technologies. Lastly, according to the results of the theoretical analysis, gas supplement operations for the wellbore must be conducted. Thus, two gas supplement schemes are presented in this paper, to provide some guidance for field operations.Yang Shunji Liu Gonghui Li Jun 2012Petroleum Science2012,9,1:3
Development and application of wellbore heat transfer model considering variable mass flow显示文摘Dual-gradient drilling technology is being increasingly used in formations with narrow pressure margins. For dual-gradient drilling based on downhole separation, hollow spheres are separated into the annulus at the separator position, resulting in variable mass flow in the wellbore. Thus, existing heat transfer models are no longer suitable for describing wellbore temperature profiles in dual-gradient drilling. This study focused on developing a wellbore heat transfer model that fully considers separated hollow spheres entering the annulus, complex casing programs, and heat sources, for dual-gradient drilling based on downhole separation. The model was solved using an iterative method. Then, the accuracy of the model was verified using temperature data measured from two wells. Finally, the difference in the annular temperature distributions between dual-gradient drilling and conventional single-gradient drilling were investigated,as were the wellbore heat transfer characteristics for dual-gradient drilling. The following major conclusions were drawn:(1)for dualgradient drilling based on downhole separation,at the separator location, the annular fluid temperature does not decrease, but rather increase in the flow direction because of the inflow of hollow spheres;(2)a clear inflection point exists in the annular fluid temperature curve at the location where the separator would be;(3)the magnitude of the mutation of the temperature curve at the inflection point is considerably affected by the heat capacities of the hollow spheres and the pure drilling fluid;(4)under the same change in separation efficiency, distance between the bit and separator, flow rate, and thermal conductivity of formation, the variation range of the fluid temperature at the bottom hole is greater than that at the wellhead.Jiangshuai Wang Jun Li Gonghui Liu Shujie Liu Meipeng Ren Kuidong Luo Shanxun Tao 2021Underground Space2021,6,3:3

Parameters optimization in deepwater dual-gradient drilling based on downhole separation显示文摘To ensure safe drilling with narrow pressure margins in deepwater, a new deepwater dual-gradient drilling method based on downhole separation was designed. A laboratory experiment was conducted to verify the effectiveness of downhole separation and the feasibility of realizing dual-gradient in wellbore. The calculation of dynamic wellbore pressure during drilling was conducted. Then, an optimization model for drilling parameters was established for this drilling method, including separator position, separation efficiency, injection volume fraction, density of drilling fluid, wellhead back pressure and displacement. The optimization of drilling parameters under different control parameters and different narrow safe pressure margins is analyzed by case study. The optimization results indicate that the wellbore pressure profile can be optimized to adapt to the narrow pressure margins and achieve greater drilling depth. By using the optimization model, a smaller bottom-hole pressure difference can be obtained, which can increase the rate of penetration(ROP) and protect reservoirs. The dynamic wellbore pressure has been kept within safe pressure margins during optimization process, effectively avoiding the complicated underground situations caused by improper wellbore pressure.WANG Jiangshuai LI Jun LIU Gonghui HUANG Tao YANG Hongwei 2019Petroleum Exploration and Development2019,46,4:1
Modeling the pressure characteristics of parallel chokes used in managed pressure drilling and related experiments显示文摘Based on the local resistance computation model for a choke valve and using the flow characteristics of choke valves, we studied the relationships between the back pressure of a parallel choke assembly and the opening extent of choke valves and developed a model to characterize the pressure regime of the manifold assembly. A comparison of pressure characteristic curves shows that a parallel choke manifold assembly has obvious advantages over the conventional serial type including high linearity of pressure-regulating characteristics curves, the elimination of the overshoot interval, wider effective regulating interval and the higher system security. Laboratory hydraulic experiments have validated the capability of a back pressure control model for the parallel choke assembly to accurately control pressure. This study is of great theoretical and practical significance to further improve the performance of chokes used in managed pressure well drilling.Liu Gonghui Zhang Tao Li Jun Yang Yulong 2012Petroleum Science2012,9,3:1
A Cementing Technology for Shale Oil Horizontal Wells显示文摘Organic rich dark shale of Q Formation can be found in many areas(e.g.,in the North of S Basin). The shale target stratum is easy to hydrate and often undergoes spallation. Therefore, centering the casing in the horizontal section of the irregular borehole is relatively difficult.Similarly, achieving a good cementflushing efficiency under complex borehole conditions is a complex task.Through technologies such as centralizer, efficient preflushing,multi-stageflushing and ductile cement slurry, better performances can be achieved. In this study,it is shown that the cementing rate in the DY2H horizontal section is 97.8%,which is more than 34%higher than that of adjacent wells. This cementing matching technology for sidetracking horizontal wells can be used to improve the cementing quality of continental shale and provides a reference for future applications in thisfield.Yudong Tian Gonghui Liu Yue Qi Jun Li Yan Xi Wei Lian Xiaojie Bai Penglin Liu Xiaoguang Geng 2023Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing2023,19,11:1
Experimental study of the movement of control fluid in compound perforation显示文摘The interaction between the high pressure gas and the control fluid and the movement mechanism of the control fluid in compound perforation were studied by a series of large-scale experiments, where the movement behavior of the control fluid was observed. The curves of measured pressure were analyzed,a mathematical model for the rigid movement of the control fluid was established, and the movement velocity of control fluid was analyzed. Moreover, the velocity from experimental results and velocity from an analytical solution were contrasted. The movement of the control fluid in the initial stage was similar to the rigid movement;however, the propagation of the pressure wave in the control fluid should be taken into account.Experimental results are significant for research on the movement mechanism of control fluid in compound perforation.Zhao Xu Liu Gonghui Li Jun Ding Qingxin 2009Petroleum Science2009,6,4:0
