1Advanced treatment of dyeing wastewater towards reuse by the combined Fenton oxidation and membrane bioreactor process显示文摘The performance of combined Fenton oxidation and membrane bioreactor (MBR) process for the advanced treatment of an effluent from an integrated dyeing wastewater treatment plant was evaluated. The experimental results revealed that under the optimum Fenton oxidation conditions (initial pH 5, H 2 O 2 dosage 17 mmol/L, and Fe 2+ 1.7 mmol/L) the average total organic carbon (TOC) and color removal ratios were 39.3% and 69.5% after 35 min of reaction, respectively. Results from Zahn-Wallens Test also represented that Fenton process was effective to enhance the biodegradability of the test wastewater. As for the further purification of MBR process, TOC removal capacity was examined at different hydraulic retention times (HRT) of 10, 18 and 25 hr. Under the optimum HRT of 18 hr, the average TOC concentration and color of the final MBR effluent were 16.8 mg/L and 2 dilution time, respectively. The sludge yield coefficient was 0.13 g MLSS/g TOC and TOC degradation rate was 0.078 kg TOC/(m 3 ·day). 2Efficacy and Economic Evaluation of Nonbiological Artificial Liver Therapy in Acute-on-chronic Hepatitis B Liver Failure显示文摘Background and Aims:Nonbiological artificial liver(NBAL)is frequently used as a first-line treatment for hepatitis B virus-associated acute-on-chronic liver failure(HBV-ACLF).This study aimed to compare the therapeutic efficacy and cost-effectiveness ratio(CER)of comprehensive medical treatment,plasma exchange(PE),and double plasma molecular adsorption system(DPMAS)plus half-dose PE(DPMAS+PE)in patients with HBV-ACLF.Methods:A total of 186 patients with HBV-ACLF randomly received comprehensive medical treatment,PE,or DPMAS+PE and were prospectively evaluated.Patients were divided into four subgroups based on the pretreatment prothrombin activity(PTA):Group I(PTA>40%),group II(PTA 30–40%),group III(PTA 20–30%),and group IV(PTA<20%).The main outcome measures were 28 day effectiveness;90 day liver transplantation-free survival;change of biochemical parameters;and CER.Results:DPMAS+PE treatment was associated with significantly higher 28 day effectiveness and 90 day liver transplantation-free survival compared with PE treatment in patients with group I liver failure.Clearance of serum total bilirubin(TBIL),AST,and creatinine(Cr)were significantly higher in the DPMAS+PE group than in the PE group.For subjects with group I liver failure,DPMAS+PE treatment had advantages of lower CER values and better cost-effectiveness.Conclusions:Compared with comprehensive medical treatment and PE alone,DPMAS with halfdose sequential PE treatment more effectively improved TBIL,AST,and Cr in HBV-ACLF patients,improved 28 day effectiveness and 90 day survival rates in patients with group I liver failure,and was more cost effective.DPMAS+PE is a viable NBAL approach for treatment of HBV-ACLF.Cichun Wu Wenting Peng Da Cheng Huimin Gu Fei Liu Shifang Peng Lei Fu 2023Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2023,11,2:5
3S100 protein expression during induced Schwann cell-like cell differentiation of rat bone marrow mesenchymal cells in vitro显示文摘BACKGROUND: S100 protein can promote axonal growth. Therefore, transplantation of induced bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) that can secrete S100 may provide a beneficial microenvironment for neural regeneration. OBJECTIVE: To explore the changes in S100 expression during rat MSCs differentiation into Schwann cells in vitro. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: This cytology experiment was performed at the Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Neuroregeneration, Nantong University in China, from January 2006 to May 2007. MATERIALS: The rabbit anti-S100 polyclonal antibody was purchased from Dako, Denmark; the mouse anti-rat S100 monoclonal antibody was purchased from Sigma, USA. METHODS: MSCs were cultured from adult Sprague-Dawley rat femur and tibia. Cell proliferation was determined by the MTT method and CD markers, and cell cycle was meas-ured by flow cytometry. MSCs were induced to differentiate into SC cells. SC cells were stained for S100 protein, glial fibrillary acidic protein, and low-affinity nerve growth factor receptor. S100 protein and mRNA levels were evaluated by flow cytometry, Western blot, and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: S100 protein and mRNA expression. RESULTS: MSCs exhibited high amplification potential over eight passages. Prior to induction, the majority of MSCs were at the G0/G1 phase of the cell cycle. After induction, MSCs displayed morphology changes similar to Schwann cells. Moreover, induction increased S100 mRNA levels. Immunofluorescence showed that MSCs expressed S100 protein, glial fibrillary acidic protein, and low-affinity nerve growth factor receptor at 7 days of induction. Induction also increased S100 protein levels compared with untreated MSCs. 5Pay-it-forward gonorrhea and chlamydia testing among men who have sex with men in China:a study protocol for a three-arm cluster randomized controlled trial显示文摘Background:Gonorrhea and chlamydia testing rates are poor among Chinese men who have sex with men(MSM).A quasi-experimental study suggested that a pay-it-forward strategy increased dual gonorrhea/chlamydia testing among MSM.Pay-it-forward offers an individual a gift(e.g.,a free test)and then asks the same person if they would like to give a gift to another person.This article reports the protocol of a randomized controlled trial to evaluate dual gonorrhea/chlamydia test uptake and other outcomes among MSM in three arms-a pay-it-forward arm,a pay-what-you-want arm,and a standard of care arm.Methods:Three hundred MSM will be recruited at three HIV testing sites in Guangzhou and Beijing.Testing sites include two hospital-based MSM sexually transmitted diseases clinics and one MSM community-based organization.Eligible participants will be born biologically male,aged 16 years or older,reporting previous anal sex with another man,having never participated in the pay-it-forward program,without previous gonorrhea and chlamydia testing in the past 12 months,and residing in China.Following a cluster randomized design,every cluster of ten participants will be randomly allocated into one of three arms:(1)a pay-it-forward arm in which men are offered free gonorrhea and chlamydia testing and then asked whether they would like to donate('pay it forward')toward testing for future testers;(2)a pay-what-you-want arm in which men are offered free testing and told to decide how much to pay after receiving the test;(3)a standard of care arm in which men can pay the full price for dual gonorrhoea and chlamydia testing.The primary outcome is dual gonorrhoea/chlamydia testing as verified by administrative records.Secondary outcomes include incremental cost per test,incremental cost per diagnosis,community connectedness,and social cohesion.Primary outcome will be calculated for each arm using intention-to-treat and compared using one-sided 95%confidence intervals with a margin of 20%increase defined as superiority.Discussion:This study will examine the pay-it-forward strategy in comparison to the standard of care in improving test uptake for gonorrhea and chlamydia.We will leverage the cluster randomized controlled trial to provide scientific evidence on the potential effect of pay-it-forward.Findings from this study will shed light on novel intervention methods for increasing preventive health service utilization and innovate ways to finance it among communities.Trial registration:ClinicalTrials.gov,NCT03741725.Registered on 12 November 2018.Tiange P.Zhang Fan Yang Weiming Tang Marcus Alexander Laura Forastiere Navin Kumar Katherine Li Fei Zou Ligang Yang Guodong Mi Yehua Wang Wenting Huang Amy Lee Weizan Zhu Peter Vickerman Dan Wu Bin Yang Nicholas A.Christakis Joseph D.Tucker 2019Infectious Diseases of Poverty2019,8,4:1

7The Arrangement and Size of Cellulose Microfibril Aggregates in the Cell Walls of Sclerenchyma Fibers and Parenchyma Tissue in Bamboo显示文摘Understanding the assembly and spatial arrangement of bamboo cell wall components is crucial for its optimal utilization.Bamboo cell walls consist of aggregates of cellulose microfibrils and matrix.In the present study,the size and arrangement of cellulose microfibril aggregates in the cell walls of sclerenchyma fibers and parenchyma cells in moso bamboo were investigated with NMR and FE-SEM.The NMR measurement showed that the characteristic sizes of the microfibril aggregates of fibers and parenchyma cells were approximately 25.8 nm and 18.8 nm,respectively.Furthermore,high-resolution SEM showed the size of microfibril aggregates varied little across the cell wall of sclerenchyma fiber.However,there were significant size differences between the broad and narrow lamellae both in fiber and parenchyma cells,which is thought to be closely related to the orientation of microfibrils in these layers.The microfibril aggregates in the fibers mainly appear in a random arrangement,although occasionally in a radial or tangential arrangement in individual cell.Parenchyma cells have a relatively thinner cell wall layers,in which microfibril aggregates appear in a concentric lamellar arrangement.Wenting Ren Fei Guo Minghui Liu Haocheng Xu Hankun Wang Yan Yu 2021Journal of Renewable Materials2021,9,12:0
8Elucidation of the hepatoprotective effect and mechanism of Melastoma dodecandrum Lour. based on network pharmacology and experimental validation显示文摘Objective:To systematically explore the effect and mechanism of melastomatis dodecandri herba(Melastoma dodecandrum Lour.)in the treatment of hepatitis based on network pharmacology.Method:We evaluated the hepatoprotective effects of M.dodecandrum in concanavalin A(Con A)-induced hepatitis in mice by assessing survival rate,histological analysis,serum transaminases,and related cytokines.Then the mechanism of action was predicted by a network pharmacology-based strategy.Based on the results,we measured the hepatic expression of related genes at mRNA level and proteins related to the phosphoinositide 3-kinase(PI3K)/protein kinase B(Akt)and nuclear factorkappa B(NF-кB)pathways.Results:Our study results clearly demonstrated that M.dodecandrum pretreatment significantly alleviated liver injury.This was demonstrated by an increase in survival rate,decreased severity of liver damage,and reduced serum transaminase levels compared with those in the Con A group.Moreover,M.dodecandrum significantly reduced the serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-a,interleukin-6,and interferon-g and increased the liver levels of superoxide dismutase,which indicated that M.dodecandrum exhibits anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities.On the basis of network pharmacology,50 nodes were selected as major hubs based on their topological importance.Pathway enrichment analyses indicated that the putative targets of M.dodecandrum mostly participate in various pathways associated with the anti-inflammation response,which implies the underlying mechanism by which M.dodecandrum acts on hepatitis.Real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR analysis showed that M.dodecandrum downregulates the mRNA expression of interleukin-6,Toll-like receptor 7,interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase-4,NF-кB and tumor necrosis factor-a in liver tissues.Western blotting showed that M.dodecandrum pretreatment protected against inflammation through activating the PI3K-Akt pathway by upregulating phosphorylated Akt(p-Akt)expression and suppressing NF-кB activation by inhibiting the phosphorylation of IKK,IkBa,and p65.Conclusion:The present work demonstrated the hepatoprotective effects of M.dodecandrum by regulating the PI3K/Akt and NF-кB pathways in Con A-induced mice,which provide insights into the treatment of hepatitis using M.dodecandrum.Jinfeng Wang Linyuan Wang Zhihao Zhang Min Wu Wenting Fei Zhihui Yang Jianjun Zhang 2022Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences2022,9,1:0

11Influence of methanol additive on bio-oil stability显示文摘Methanol at different mass concentrations(1,6,11,16,21 wt%)was added into crude bio-oil to upgrade oil properties.Indexes including pH value,water content and viscosity were measured regularly during a storage period of 91 days.GC-MS analysis was conducted before and after storage.An addition of 21 wt%methanol was found to improve the pH value from 2.97 to 3.88,and decrease the water content and viscosity after storage by 35.02%and 81.35%,respectively.The GC-MS analysis result convincingly showed that methanol could inhibit aging reactions such as polymerization and esterification which created new compounds in the oil.The FTIR and NMR analysis showed that methanol caused some structural changes in bio-oil.Fei Wenting Liu Ronghou Zhou Weiqi Mei Yuanfei Yin Renzhan 2014International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2014,7,3:0
12Effect of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation(rTMS)Combined with Repetitive Magnetic Stimulation at Taichong Acupoint(LR3)on Depression:A Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Study显示文摘[Objectives]To explore the clinical treatment effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation(rTMS)combined with repetitive magnetic stimulation at Taichong acupoint(LR3)therapy in the treatment of depression.[Methods]60 patients who met the inclusion standard were chosen as the research subjects.They were split into two sets using a randomized parallel control method,with 30 cases each in the experimental and control groups.The experimental group adopted the treatment with rTMS+repetitive magnetic stimulation at Taichong acupoint(LR3),and the control group adopted the treatment with rTMS alone.The course of treatment was 8 weeks.Then the clinical efficacy,Hamilton Depression Scale 17 item score(HAMD-17),Symptom Check List-90(SCL-90),Patient Health Questionnaire-15(PHQ-15)and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)were compared.[Results]After treatment,the scores of HAMD-17,SCL-90,PHQ-15 and PSQI in the two groups were lower than those before and 4 weeks after treatment(P<0.05 or P<0.01),and the scores in the experimental group were inferior to those in the control group(P<0.01),The effective rate was 96.66%in the experimental group and 76.47%in the control group(P<0.05).In the course of treatment,no serious adverse reactions happened in either group.[Conclusions]The rTMS combined with repetitive magnetic stimulation at Taichong acupoint(LR3)can enhance the control of depression in the right frontal lobe,significantly improve the symptoms of depression and somatic discomfort,and improve the sleep quality of patients.It has a wide range of application,and is safe and noninvasive,so it is worthy of clinical promotion.Huitao SU Wenting LIU Jie YUAN Hui LI Lu ZHANG Fei CHEN Yaling LEI 2022Medicinal Plant2022,13,3:0
13Biomarker-targeted fluorescent probes for breast cancer imaging显示文摘Breast cancer has become a common tumor worldwide which seriously endangers people's health. Early diagnosis and treatment are particularly urgent in order to reduce the onset risk, mortality, and prolong the five-year survival rate. Therefore, we need a kind of diagnosis and treatment technology with high speci ficity, sensitivity and selectivity. In recent years, because of its unique properties in biological applications, fluorescence imaging has become an attractive research subject. Fluorescence imaging offers innovative ideas of targetable recognition of breast cancer cells, breast cancer imaging in vivo animal models, anticancer drugs delivery for guiding the mammary surgery via a noninvasive way with high sensitively and speci fically. 14Propofol protects against high glucose-mediated endothelial injury via inhibition of COX2 and iNOS expressions显示文摘Perioperative hyperglycemia is a common metabolic disorder in the clinic.Hyperglycemia,via upregulation of E74-like ETS transcription factor 3(ELF3),induces cyclooxygenase 2(COX2)and inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS)expressions,thus leading to endothelial apoptosis and vascular endothelial injury.Propofol is a widely used anesthetic.In the present study,we explored whether and how propofol protects against high glucose-induced COX2 and iNOS expressions in human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs).We found that high glucose level decreases cell viability and increases COX2 and iNOS expressions in HUVECs.Our data also indicated that ELF3 overexpression participates in high glucose-mediated cell viability reduction and high glucose-induced COX2 and iNOS expressions.Moreover,propofol treatment improves high glucose-mediated reduction in cell viability and decreases COX2 and iNOS expressions via inhibition of ELF3 expressions.Furthermore,specificity protein 1(SP1)was found to regulate ELF3 expression,thus mediating endothelial injury.Propofol inhibits high glucose-induced SP1 expression.High glucose increases the abundance of SP1 bound to the ELF3 promoter,which can be reversed by propofol treatment.The protective effect of propofol is reversed by SP1 overexpression.In conclusion,propofol downregulates high glucose-induced SP1 expression,thus attenuating high glucose-induced ELF3 expression,inhibiting high glucose-induced COX2 and iNOS expressions,and improving high glucose-mediated cell viability reduction in HUVECs.Jiayun Shao Juan Ding Lihong Lu Wenting Hou Fei Wang Zhirong Sun Hui Jiang Yanjun Zhao 2022Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2022,54,4:0
