1Comparative short-term effects of sewage sludge and its biochar on soil properties, maize growth and uptake of nutrients on a tropical clay soil in Zimbabwe显示文摘Soil application of biochar from sewage could potentially enhance carbon sequestration and close urban nutrient balances. In sub-Saharan Africa, comparative studies investigating plant growth effect and nutrients uptake on tropical soils amended with sewage sludge and its biochar are very limited. A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of sewage sludge and its biochar on soil chemical properties, maize nutrient and heavy metal uptake, growth and biomass partitioning on a tropical clayey soil. The study compared three organic amendments; sewage sludge(SS), sludge biochar(SB) and their combination(SS+SB) to the unamended control and inorganic fertilizers. Organic amendments were applied at a rate of 15 t ha^(–1) for SS and SB, and 7.5 t ha^(–1) each for SS and SB. Maize growth, biomass production and nutrient uptake were significantly improved in biochar and sewage sludge amendments compared to the unamended control. Comparable results were observed with F, SS and SS+SB on maize growth at 49 d of sowing. Maize growth for SB, SS, SS+SB and F increased by 42, 53, 47, and 49%, respectively compared to the unamended control. Total biomass for SB, SS, SS+SB, and F increased by 270, 428, 329, and 429%, respectively compared with the unamended control. Biochar amendments reduced Pb, Cu and Zn uptakes by about 22% compared with sludge alone treatment in maize plants. 2Significantly improved hydrogen storage behaviors in MgH_(2) with Nb nanocatalyst显示文摘The study explores the excellent modification effect of Nb nanocatalyst prepared via surfactant assisted ball milling technique(SABM)on the hydrogen storage properties of MgH_(2).Optimal catalyst doping concentration was determined by comparing onset decomposition temperature,released hydrogen capacity,and reaction rate for different MgH_(2)-ywt%Nb(y=0,3,5,7,9)composites.The MgH_(2)-5wt%Nb composite started releasing hydrogen at 186.7℃ and a total of 7.0wt%hydrogen was released in the dehydrogenation process.In addition,5wt%Nb doped MgH_(2) also managed to release 4.2wt%H_(2) within 14 min at 250℃ and had the ability to absorb 4.0wt%hydrogen in 30 min at 100℃.Cycling tests revealed that MgH_(2)-5wt%Nb could retain 6.3wt%H_(2) storage capacity(89.2%)after 20 cycles.Dehydrogenation and hydrogenation activation energy values were decreased from 140.51±4.74 and 70.67±2.07 kJ·mol^(−1) to 90.04±2.83 and 53.46±3.33 kJ·mol^(−1) after doping MgH_(2) with Nb,respectively.Microstructure analysis proved that homogeneously distributed NbH acted as active catalytic unit for improving the hydrogen storage performance of MgH_(2).These results indicate SABM can be considered as an option to develop other nanocatalysts for energy related areas.Farai Michael Nyahuma Liuting Zhang Mengchen Song Xiong Lu Beibei Xiao Jiaguang Zheng Fuying Wu 2022International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2022,29,9:3
3Modeling the role of public health education in Ebola virus disease outbreaks in Sudan显示文摘Public involvement in Ebola Virus Disease(EVD)prevention efforts is key to reducing disease outbreaks.Targeted education through practical health information to particular groups and sub-populations is crucial to controlling the disease.In this paper,we study the dynamics of Ebola virus disease in the presence of public health education with the aim of assessing the role of behavior change induced by health education to the dynamics of an outbreak.The power of behavior change is evident in two outbreaks of EVD that took place in Sudan only 3 years apart.The first occurrence was the first documented outbreak of EVD and produced a significant number of infections.The second outbreak produced far fewer cases,presumably because the population in the region learned from the first outbreak.We derive a system of ordinary differential equations to model these two contrasting behaviors.Since the population in Sudan learned from the first outbreak of EVD and changed their behavior prior to the second outbreak,we use data from these two instances of EVD to estimate parameters relevant to two contrasting behaviors.We then simulate a future outbreak of EVD in Sudan using our model that contains two susceptible populations,one being more informed about EVD.Our finding show how a more educated population results in fewer cases of EVD and highlights the importance of ongoing public health education.Benjamin Levy Christina Edholm Orou Gaoue Roselyn Kaondera-Shava Moatlhodi Kgosimore Suzanne Lenhart Benjamin Lephodisa Edward Lungu Theresia Marijani Farai Nyabadza 2017Infectious Disease Modelling2017,2,3:2
