1耐旱玉米显示文摘有一句谚语叫“水是生命之源”,它提醒我们水是十分重要和珍贵的。目前,农业用水已经超过了世界淡水总量的70%(发展中国家为86%)。到2050年全球人口将从目前的67亿增长到90亿以上,世界范围内的水供应能力将持续萎缩。虽然人们每天只直接饮用1-2升水,但是我们每天正常摄入的食物及肉类却要通过消耗2000-3000升水来制造。人们需要同时运用传统和生物技术方法来改良农作物使其更高效利用水资源,从而更好的抵御干旱。G.O. Edmeades 李亮(翻译) 王金凤(翻译) 2009中国生物工程杂志2009,29,4:3
