| 3 | Hepatitis B virus infection and hepatocellular carcinoma in sub- Saharan Africa: Implications for elimination of viral hepatitis by 2030?显示文摘Elimination of viral hepatitis in sub-Saharan Africa by 2030 is an ambitious feat.However,as stated by the World Health Organization,there are unprecedented opportunities to act and make significant contributions to the elimination target.With 60 million people chronically infected with hepatitis B virus(HBV)of whom 38800 are at risk of developing highly fatal hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)every year,sub-Saharan Africa faces one of the greatest battles towards elimination of viral hepatitis.There is a need to examine progress in controlling the disproportionate burden of HBV-associated HCC in sub-Saharan Africa within the context of this elimination target.By scaling-up coverage of hepatitis B birth dose and early childhood vaccination,we can significantly reduce new cases of HCC by as much as 50%within the next three to five decades.Given the substantial reservoir of chronic HBV carriers however,projections show that HCC incidence and mortality rates in sub-Saharan Africa will double by 2040.This warrants urgent public health attention.The trends in the burden of HCC over the next two decades,will be determined to a large extent by progress in achieving early diagnosis and appropriate linkage to care for high-risk chronic HBV infected persons. | Edina Amponsah-Dacosta | 2021 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2021，27，36： | 2 |
| 4 | Surgical stress and cytoskeletal changes in lens epithelial cells following manual and femtosecond laser-assisted capsulotomy显示文摘AIM:To study the effect of mechanical stress on the cytoskeleton in lens epithelial cells following conventional phacoemulsification surgery(CPS)and femtosecond laserassisted cataract surgery(FLACS).METHODS:The cytoskeleton of the epithelial cells of the anterior lens capsules(ALC)removed by CPS and FLACS was examined by immunohistochemistry.Expression of the intermediate filament,glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP),and glutamine synthetase(GS)immunoreactivity were detected.In order to map the actin network of cells,fluorescently labeled phalloidin was used.The samples were examined using confocal laser scanning microscopy.RESULTS:GFAP expression was visible in a larger number of the epithelial cells after CPS compared to FLACS.In CPS sample’s epithelial cells,GFAP immunoreactivity indicated robust morphological change.Regarding the actin filaments,the presence of tubular elements connecting epithelial cells,regular actin pattern and marked cortical network after CPS were found.Following FLACS,the actin cytoskeleton of the epithelial cells remained densely structured,and the tubular elements were undetectable,however,the above-mentioned regular actin pattern and the marked cortical network were visible.CONCLUSION:The conventional removal of the ALC induces more robust changes of the cytoskeleton of the lens epithelial cells. | ANDrea Krisztina Sükosd Krisztina Szabadfi Edina Szabó-Meleg Beáta Gáspár Pavel Stodulka Gyorgy SétálóJr Róbert Gábriel Miklós Nyitrai Zsolt Biró Hajnalka Abrahám | 2020 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2020，13，6： | 2 |
| 5 | Chronic hepatitis B-associated liver disease in the context of human immunodeficiency virus co-infection and underlying metabolic syndrome显示文摘Globally,a shift in the epidemiology of chronic liver disease has been observed.This has been mainly driven by a marked decline in the prevalence of chronic hepatitis B virus infection(CHB),with the greatest burden restricted to the Western Pacific and sub-Saharan African regions.Amidst this is a growing burden of metabolic syndrome(MetS)worldwide.A disproportionate co-burden of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)infection is also reported in sub-Saharan Africa,which poses a further risk of liver-related morbidity and mortality in the region.We reviewed the existing evidence base to improve current understanding of the effect of underlying MetS on the development and progression of chronic liver disease during CHB and HIV co-infection.While the mechanistic association between CHB and MetS remains poorly resolved,the evidence suggests that MetS may have an additive effect on the liver damage caused by CHB.Among HIV infected individuals,MetS-associated liver disease is emerging as an important cause of non-AIDS related morbidity and mortality despite antiretroviral therapy(ART).It is plausible that underlying MetS may lead to adverse outcomes among those with concomitant CHB and HIV co-infection.However,this remains to be explored through rigorous longitudinal studies,especially in sub-Saharan Africa.Ultimately,there is a need for a comprehensive package of care that integrates ART programs with routine screening for MetS and promotion of lifestyle modification to ensure an improved quality of life among CHB and HIV coinfected individuals. | Edina Amponsah-Dacosta Cynthia Tamandjou Tchuem Motswedi Anderson | 2020 | World Journal of Virology2020，9，5： | 2 |

| 14 | Co-nanoencapsulated meloxicam and curcumin improves cognitive impairment induced by amyloid-beta through modulation of cyclooxygenase-2 in mice显示文摘Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive brain disorder and complex mechanisms are involved in the physiopathology of Alzheimer’s disease.However,there is data suggesting that inflammation plays a role in its development and progression.Indeed,some non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs,such as meloxicam,which act by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 have been used as neuroprotective agents in different neurodegenerative disease models.The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of co-nanoencapsulated curcumin and meloxicam in lipid core nanocapsules(LCN)on cognitive impairment induced by amyloid-beta peptide injection in mice.LCN were prepared by the nanoprecipitation method.Male Swiss mice received a single intracerebroventricular injection of amyloid-beta peptide aggregates(fragment 25–35,3 nmol/3μL)or vehicle and were subsequently treated with curcumin-loaded LCN(10 mg/kg)or meloxicam-loaded LCN(5 mg/kg)or meloxicam+curcumin-co-loaded LCN(5 and 10 mg/kg,respectively).Treatments were given on alternate days for 12 days(i.e.,six doses,once every 48 hours,by intragastric gavage).Our data showed that amyloid-beta peptide infusion caused long-term memory deficits in the inhibitory avoidance and object recognition tests in mice.In the inhibitory avoidance test,both meloxicam and curcumin formulations(oil or co-loaded LCN)improved amyloid-beta-induced memory impairment in mice.However,only meloxicam and curcumin-co-loaded LCN attenuated non-aversive memory impairment in the object recognition test.Moreover,the beneficial effects of meloxicam and curcuminco-loaded LCN could be explained by the anti-inflammatory properties of these drugs through cortical cyclooxygenase-2 downregulation.Our study suggests that the neuroprotective potential of meloxicam and curcumin co-nanoencapsulation is associated with cortical cyclooxygenase-2 modulation.This study was approved by the Committee on Care and Use of Experimental Animal Resources,the Federal University of Pampa,Brazil(approval No.02-2015)on April 16,2015. | Maria Eduarda Ziani Gutierrez Anne Suély Pinto Savall Edina da Luz Abreu Kelly Ayumi Nakama Renata Bem Dos Santos Marina Costa Monteiro Guedes Daiana SilvaÁvila Cristiane Luchese Sandra Elisa Haas Caroline Brandão Quines Simone Pinton | 2021 | Neural Regeneration Research2021，16，4： | 1 |
