| 2 | Inflammatory model in patients with primary open angle glaucoma and diabetes显示文摘AIM: To assess the inflammatory cytokines expression in aqueous humor in diabetic primary open angle glaucoma(POAG) patients. METHODS: A cross-sectional study on 87 eyes, distributed as following: 26 eyes from diabetic patients, 16 eyes with POAG and 21 eyes from diabetic POAG patients; healthy controls(24 eyes) were recruited from patients undergoing conventional cataract surgery. A volume of 100 μL of aqueous humor(AH) was collected during phacoemulsification and 21 inflammatory markers were quantified using a Luminex~? cytometric bead assay: IL-1 Ra, IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-5, IL-6, IL-10, IL-17, GM-CSF, IFNγ, CCL2, CCL3, CCL4, CXCL5, CXCL8, bFGF, VEGF, TNFα. Main changes in cytokine profile were analyzed and compared between groups. Data on demographics, duration of glaucoma, intraocular pressure(IOP), number of anti-glaucoma substances were recorded for correlation analysis and prediction models. RESULTS: Significant differences in cytokine expression between groups were detected for CXCL5(P<0.001), CXCL8(P=0.004), IL-1α(P<0.001), IL-2(P<0.001), CCL4(P=0.003), CCL5(P<0.001) and TNFα(P=0.05). Post-hoc analysis identified IL-2(P=0.009) and CXCL5(P<0.001) as 'separation markers' between POAG and diabetic POAG eyes. In POAG patients, the 'separation markers' could highly predict the TNFα levels F(1, 16)=14.639, P<0.001, whereas in diabetic patients F(1, 24)=4.844, P=0.006 and diabetic POAG patients F(1, 19)=2.358, P=0.05 the level of prediction was inferior.CONCLUSION: Our results reveal an inflammatory model based on increased TNFα levels in POAG eyes.Simultaneous co-stimulatory molecules and additional inflammatory pathways need to be further explored in diabetic POAG cases, since the prediction model could only partially explain the increased TNFα level in this category of patients. | Anca Pantalon Otilia Obada Daniela Constantinescu Crenguta Feraru Dorin Chiselita | 2019 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2019，12，5： | 4 |
| 3 | Prolonged hypernatremia triggered by hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state with coma: A case report显示文摘A man with past lithium use for more than 15 years, but off lithium for two years and not carrying the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus or nephrogenic diabetes insipidus(NDI), presented with coma and hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state(HHS). Following correction of HHS, he developed persistent hypernatremia accompanied by large volumes of urine with low osmolality and no response to desmopressin injections. Urine osmolality remained < 300 m Osm/kg after injection of vasopressin. Improvement in serum sodium concentration followed the intake of large volumes of water plus administration of amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide. Severe hyperglycemia may trigger symptomatic lithium-induced NDI years after cessation of lithium therapy. | 8 | Psychophysics of the hoverfly: categorical or continuous color discrimination?显示文摘There is increasing interest in flies as potentially important pollinators. Flies are known to have a complex visual system, in eluding 4 spectral classes of photoreceptors that con tribute to the perception of color. Our current understanding of how color signals are perceived by flies is based on data for the blowfly Lucilia sp., which after being conditi oned to rewarded mono chromatic light stimuli, showed evidenee of a categorical color visual system. The resulting opponent fly color space has 4 distinct categories, and has been used to interpret how some fly pollinators may perceive flower colors. However, formal proof that flower flies (Syrphidae) only use a simple, categorical color process remains outstanding. In free-flying experiments, we tested the hoverfly Eristalis tenax, a Batesian mimic of the honeybee, that receives its nutrition by visiting flowers. Using a range of broadband similar-dissimilar color stimuli previously used to test color perception in pollinating hymenopteran species, we evaluated if there are steep changes in behavioral choices with continuously increasing color differences as might be expected by categorical color processing. Our data revealed that color choices by the hoverfly are mediated by a continuous monotonic function. Thus, these flies did not use a categorical processing, but showed evidenee of a color discrimination function similar to that observed in several bee species. We therefore empirically provide data for the minimum color distanee that can be discriminated by hoverflies in fly color space, enabling an improved un derstandi ng of plant-poll in ator interactions with a non-model insect species. | Lea Hannah Adrian G.
