1古构造在东非裂谷形成和演化中的作用显示文摘通过对比东非裂谷与古构造的发育位置发现,各裂谷区段通常位于与岩石圈缝合线相关的前寒武纪地壳韧性前缘陡冲断层之上.地壳深部糜棱带的韧性伸展活化形成拆离断层,产生初始盆地.最初的断裂发生在岩石圈地幔的缝合带之上,地壳和地幔变形之间没有联系.转换断层带是由代表古横向陡冲断层的NW-SE向大型横推剪切带演化而成.而其它一些NE-SW向深部古老构造的活化形成了相当于大型张裂隙的盆地.自渐新世以来,因阿法尔热点引起的岩石圈大陆破裂(组成东非裂谷)自其起点逐渐向南扩展.从几个原始盆地开始的大陆破裂的扩展在时间和空间上是不连续的.这些原始盆地随后相互连接,形成横穿古前缘或横向陡冲断层及表层走滑断层的裂谷主干分支,当被切割的古大断裂与近NW-SE向的区域运动方向平行时,交会带就发育转换断层.Jean Chorowicz 黄凤鸣 1993地质科学译丛1993，10，1：2
