| 1 | Bamboo charcoal addition enhanced the nitrogen removal of anammox granular sludge with COD:Performance,physicochemical characteristics and microbial community显示文摘The effects of different chemical oxygen demand(COD)concentrations on the anammox granular sludge with Bamboo Charcoal(BC)addition were evaluated in UASB reactor.The results showed that the average total nitrogen(TN)removal efficiency was reduced from 85.9%to 81.4%when COD concentration was increased from 50 to 150 mg/L.However,the TN removal efficiency of BC addition reactors was dramatically 3.1%-6.4%higher than that without BC under different COD concentrations.The average diameter of granular sludge was 0.13 mm higher than that without BC.The settling velocity was increased by elevated COD concentration,while the EPS and VSS/SS were increased with BC addition.The high-throughput Miseq sequencing analyses revealed that the bacterial diversity and richness were decreased under COD addition,and the Planctomycetes related to anammox bacteria were Candidatus Brocadia and Candidatus Kuenenia.The Metagenomic sequencing indicated that the abundance of denitrification related functional genes all increased with elevated COD,while the abundance of anammox related functional genes of decreased.The func-tional genes related to anammox was hydrazine synthase encoding genes(hzsA,hzsB and hzsB).The average relative abundance of hzs genes in the reactor with BC addition was higher than the control at COD concentrations of 50 mg/L and 150 mg/L.The functional genes of denitrification mediated by BC were higher than those without BC throughout the operation phase.It is interesting to note that BC addition greatly enriched the related func-tional genes of denitrification and anammox. | Menglei Guo Ying Jiang Junxiang Xie Qianfei Cao Qun Zhang Adams Mabruk Chongjun Chen | 2022 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2022,34,5: | 5 |
| 2 | Removal of nitrogen from wastewater with perennial ryegrass/artificial aquatic mats biofilm combined system显示文摘To develop a cost-effective combined phytoremediation and biological process,a combined perennial ryegrass/artificial aquatic mat biofilm reactor was used to treat synthetic wastewater.Influent ammonium loading,reflux ratio,hydraulic retention time(HRT) and temperature all had significant effects on the treatment efficiency.The results indicated that the effluent concentration of ammonium increased with increasing influent ammonium loading.The reactor temperature played an important role in the nitrification process.The ammonium removal efficiency significantly decreased from 80% to 30%-50% when the reactor temperature dropped to below 10°C.In addition,the optimal nitrogen removal condition was a reflux ratio of 2.The nitrate and ammonium concentration of the effluent were consistent with the HRT of the combined system.The chemical oxygen demand(COD) removal efficiency was at a high level during the whole experiment,being almost 80% after the start-up,and then mostly above 90%.The direct uptake of N by the perennial ryegrass accounted for 18.17% of the total N removal by the whole system.The perennial ryegrass absorption was a significant contributor to nitrogen removal in the combined system.The result illustrated that the combined perennial ryegrass/artificial aquatic mat biofilm reactor demonstrated good performance in ammonium,total N and COD removal. | Chongjun Chen Rui Zhang Liang Wang Weixiang Wu Yingxu Chen | 2013 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,4: | 5 |
| 3 | Parallel algorithm for viewshed analysis on a modern GPU显示文摘Spatial analysis,including viewshed analysis,is an important aspect of the Digital Earth system.Viewshed analysis is usually performed on a large scale,so efficiency is important in any Digital Earth application making these calculations.In this paper,a real-time algorithm for viewshed analysis in 3D scenes is presented by using the parallel computing capabilities of a graphics processing unit(GPU).In contrast to traditional algorithms based on line-of-sight,this algorithm runs completely within the programmable 3D visualization pipeline to render 3D terrains with viewshed analysis.The most important difference is its integration of the viewshed calculation with the rendering module.Invisible areas are rendered as shadows in the 3D scene.The algorithm process is paralleled by rasterizer units in the graphics card and by vertex and pixel shaders executed on the GPU.We have implemented this method in our 3D Digital Earth system with the DirectX 9.0c API and tested on some consumer-level PC platforms with interactive framerates and high image quality.Our algorithm has been widely used in related systems based on Digital Earth. | Fang Chao Yang Chongjun Chen Zhuo Yao Xiaojing Guo Hantao | 2011 | International Journal of Digital Earth2011,4,6: | 4 |

| 5 | The interaction between polyphyllin I and SQLE protein induces hepatotoxicity through SREBP-2/HMGCR/SQLE/LSS pathway显示文摘Polyphyllin I(PPI)and polyphyllin II(PII)are the main active substances in the Paris polyphylla.However,liver toxicity of these compounds has impeded their clinical application and the potential hepatotoxicity mechanisms remain to be elucidated.In this work,we found that PPI and PII exposure could induce significant hepatotoxicity in human liver cell line L-02 and zebrafish in a dose-dependent manner.The results of the proteomic analysis in L-02 cells and transcriptome in zebrafish indicated that the hepatotoxicity of PPI and PII was associated with the cholesterol biosynthetic pathway disorders,which were alleviated by the cholesterol biosynthesis inhibitor lovastatin.Additionally,3-hydroxy-3-methy-lglutaryl CoA reductase(HMGCR)and squalene epoxidase(SQLE),the two rate-limiting enzymes in the cholesterol synthesis,selected as the potential targets,were confirmed by the molecular docking,the overexpression,and knockdown of HMGCR or SQLE with siRNA.Finally,the pull-down and surface plasmon resonance technology revealed that PPI could directly bind with SQLE but not with HMGCR.Collectively,these data demonstrated that PPI-induced hepatotoxicity resulted from the direct binding with SQLE protein and impaired the sterol-regulatory element binding protein 2/HMGCR/SQLE/lanosterol synthase pathways,thus disturbing the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway.The findings of this research can contribute to a better understanding of the key role of SQLE as a potential target in drug-induced hepatotoxicity and provide a therapeutic strategy for the prevention of drug toxic effects with similar structures in the future. | Zhiqi Li Qiqi Fan Meilin Chen Ying Dong Farong Li Mingshuang Wang Yulin Gu Simin Guo Xianwen Ye Jiarui Wu Shengyun Dai Ruichao Lin Chongjun Zhao | 2023 | Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2023,13,1: | 2 |

| 10 | Generation of low-cadmium rice germplasms via knockout of OsLCD using CRISPR/Cas9显示文摘The OsLCD gene,which has been implicated in cadmium (Cd) accumulation in rice,might be a useful target for CRISPR/Cas9 editing.However,the effects of Os LCD gene editing on Cd accumulation,plant growth,and yield traits remain unknown.Here,we used CRISPR/Cas9to generate oslcd single mutants from indica and japonica rice cultivars.We also generated osnramp5 single mutants and oslcd osnramp5 double mutants in the indica background.When grown in Cd-contaminated paddy soils,all oslcd single mutants accumulated less Cd than the wild types (WTs).Consistent with this,oslcd single mutants grown in Cd-contaminated hydroponic culture accumulated significantly less Cd in the shoots as compared to WTs.This decrease in accumulation probably resulted from the reduction of Cd translocation under Cd stress.Oxidative damage also decreased,and plant growth increased in all oslcd single mutant seedlings as compared to WTs in the presence of Cd.Plant growth and most yield traits,as well essential element concentrations in rice seedling shoots,brown rice,and rice straw,were similar between oslcd single mutants and WTs.In the presence of Cd,Cd concentrations in the brown rice and shoots of oslcd osnramp5 double mutants were significantly decreased compared with WTs as well as osnramp single mutants.Our results suggested that OsL CD knockout may reduce Cd accumulation alone or in combination with other knockout mutations in a variety of rice genotypes;unlike Os Nramp5 mutations,Os LCD knockout did not reduce essential element contents.Therefore,Os LCD knockout might be used to generate low-Cd rice germplasms. | Huamei Chen Rong Ye Ying Liang Shuchang Zhang Xiulian Liu Chongjun Sun Fangbai Li Jicai Yi | 2023 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,4: | 1 |

| 15 | Comparative transcriptomics provide new insights into the mechanisms by which foliar silicon alleviates the effects of cadmium exposure in rice显示文摘Silicon(Si)has been shown to alleviate Cd stress in rice.Here,we investigated the beneficial effects of foliar Si in an indica rice Huanghuazhan(HHZ).Our results showed that foliar Si in-creases the dry weight and decreases Cd translocation in Cd-exposed rice at the grain-filling stage only,implying that the filling stage is critical for foliar Si to reduce Cd accumulation.We also investigated the transcriptomics in flag leaves(FLs),spikelets(SPs),and node Is(NIs)of Cd-exposed HHZ after foliar Si application at the filling stage.Importantly,the gene expression profiles associated with the Si-mediated alleviation of Cd stress were tissue spe-cific,while shared pathways were mediated by Si in Cd-exposed rice tissues.Furthermore,after the Si treatment of Cd-exposed rice,the ATP-binding cassette(ABC)-transporters were mostly upregulated in FL and SP,while the bivalent cation transporters were mostly down-regulated in FL and NI,possibly helping to reduce Cd accumulation.The genes associated with essential nutrient transporters,carbohydrate and secondary metabolite biosynthesis,and cytochrome oxidase activity were mostly upregulated in Cd-exposed FL and SP,which may help to alleviate oxidative stress and improve plant growth under Cd exposure.Inter-estingly,genes responsible for signal transduction were negatively regulated in FL,but pos-itively regulated in SP,by foliar Si.Our results provide transcriptomic evidence that foliar Si plays an active role in alleviating the effects of Cd exposure in rice.In particular,foliar Si may alter the expression pattern of genes associated with transport,biosynthesis and metabolism,and oxidation reduction. | Chongjun Sun Xiaoyu Liang Xiaomei Gong Huamei Chen Xiulian Liu Shuchang Zhang Fangbai Li Junliang Zhao Jicai Yi | 2022 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2022,34,5: | 0 |
