1Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis: What every radiologist should know显示文摘Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis(XGC) is an uncommon variant of chronic cholecystitis characterized by xanthogranulomatous inflammation of the gallbladder. Intramural accumulation of lipid-laden macrophages and acute and chronic inflammatory cells is the hallmark of the disease. The xanthogranulomatous inflammation of the gallbladder can be very severe and can spill over to the neighbouring structures like liver, bowel and stomach resulting in dense adhesions, perforation, abscess formation, fistulous communication with adjacent bowel. Striking gallbladder wall thickening and dense local adhesions can be easily mistaken for carcinoma of the gallbladder, both intraoperatively as well as on preoperative imaging. Besides, cases of concomitant gallbladder carcinoma complicating XGC have also been reported in literature. So, we have done a review of the imaging features of XGC in order to better understand the entity as well as to increase the diagnostic yield of the disease summarizing the characteristic imaging findings and associations of XGC. Among other findings, presence of intramural hypodense nodules is considered diagnostic of this entity. However, in some cases, an imaging diagnosis of XGC is virtually impossible. Fine needle aspiration cytology might be handy in such patients. 2A Comparison of SWAT Model Calibration Techniques for Hydrological Modeling in the Ganga River Watershed显示文摘恒河是印度最长的河流,目前正遭受人类活动和气候变化的影响,其中瓦拉纳西区域所受的影响尤为严重。预计气候变化和不断扩张的人口会进一步影响水资源的有效利用。本研究利用水土评价工具(soil and water assessment tool,SWAT)模型进行水文模拟,研究区选择恒河流经的印度北方邦南部地区,覆盖面积达15 621.612 km^2。本研究主要目标如下:(1)检验SWAT模型在径流和产沙量预测方面的可行性和适用性,(2)对序贯不确定性分析(SUFI-2)、普适似然不确定性估计(GLUE)和并行求解(ParaSol)这3种常规校准算法进行对比分析,并确定出最佳校准算法。SWAT模型中输入数据的来源为航天飞机雷达地形测绘任务(SRTM)获取的数字高程模型(DEM)、Landsat-8卫星图像、土壤数据和逐日气象数据。首先,本研究将研究流域划分为46个子流域,使用土地利用/土地覆被(LULC)图和土壤图创建了水文响应单元(HRU)。然后,构建了基于SUFI-2、GLUE和ParaSol算法的模型,并基于5类标准对这些校准算法进行了比较,标准包括目标函数、使用概念、性能、P因子和R因子值。研究结果表明:(1) SUFI-2算法需要的运行时间较少,同时校准结果最好,ParaSol算法最差;(2)使用SUFI-2算法对模型进行校准后,获得对模拟结果影响最显著的5个敏感参数——主河道水力传导率(CH_K2)、USLE方程水土保持因子(USLE_P)、主河道曼宁系数值(CH_N2)、地表径流滞后时间(SURLAG)以及土壤有效含水量(SOL_AWC);(3) 40号子流域(SW#40)产生的径流量最大,土地利用类型为荒地的36号子流域(SW#36)的产沙量最大,达到50 t·a^(–1)。研究区的平均蒸散量为411.55 mm·a^(–1)。校准后的模型可以用于探究未来LULC的变化、气候变化和土壤侵蚀的影响。Nikita Shivhare Prabhat Kumar Singh Dikshir Shyam Bihari Dwivedi 2018Engineering2018,4,5:6
3Effects of 42-year long-term fertilizer management on soil phosphorus availability, fractionation,adsorption–desorption isotherm and plant uptake in flooded tropical rice显示文摘Soil phosphorus(P) fractionation, adsorption, and desorption isotherm, and rice yield and P uptake were investigated in flooded tropical rice(Oryza sativa L.) following 42-year fertilizer and manure application. The treatments included low-input [unfertilized control without N, P, or K(C0N0)], farmyard manure(FYM)(C1N0), NP(C0NP), NPK(C0NPK), FYM + NP(C1NP), and high-input treatment, FYM + NPK(C1NPK). Grain yield was increased significantly by 74%over the control under the combined application of FYM + NPK. However, under low- and high-input treatments, yield as well as P uptake was maintained at constant levels for 35 years.During the same period, high yield levels and P uptake were maintained under the C0 NP, C0 NPK,and C1 NPK treatments. These are unique characteristics of a tropical flooded ecosystem, which is a self-sustaining system for rice production. The Fe–P fraction was highest compared to the Ca–P and Al–P fractions after 42 years of fertilizer application and was significantly higher under FYM + NPK treatment. The P adsorption capacity of soil was highest under the low-input treatment and lowest under long-term balanced fertilization(FYM + NPK). In contrast, P desorption capacity was highest under NPK and lowest in the control treatment. 4Estimating stock closing indices using a GA-weighted condensed polynomial neural network显示文摘Accurate forecasting of changes in stock market indices can provide financial managers and individual investors with strategically valuable information.However,predicting the closing prices of stock indices remains a challenging task because stock price movements are characterized by high volatility and nonlinearity.This paper proposes a novel condensed polynomial neural network(CPNN)for the task of forecasting stock closing price indices.We developed a model that uses partial descriptions(PDs)and is limited to only two layers for the PNN architecture.The outputs of these PDs along with the original features are fed to a single output neuron,and the synaptic weight values and biases of the CPNN are optimized by a genetic algorithm.The proposed model was evaluated by predicting the next day’s closing price of five fast-growing stock indices:the BSE,DJIA,NASDAQ,FTSE,and TAIEX.In comparative testing,the proposed model proved its ability to provide closing price predictions with superior accuracy.Further,the Deibold-Mariano test justified the statistical significance of the model,establishing that this approach can be adopted as a competent financial forecasting tool.Sarat Chandra Nayak Bijan Bihari Misra 2018Financial Innovation2018,4,1:3
5Spatial pattern analysis for quantification of landscape structure of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve,Central India显示文摘Landscape structure is often regarded as an important factor that governs the distribution and abundance of species.Therefore it is critical to understand the landscapes and their dynamics.Patterns of landscape elements strongly influence the ecological characteristics.This study was designed to document and map the current status of the tropical dry deciduous forest of the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve(TATR),Central India,(using IRS P6 LISS IV data)and to describe its landscape structure at three levels of organization viz.landscape,class,and patch.The study area was classified into 10 land cover classes that include 6vegetation classes.The landscape structure was analyzed using FRAGSTATS using 12 set of indices.The TATR landscapes have a total of2,307 patches with a mean patch size of 25.67 ha and patch density of 1.7patches per km2.Amongst all land cover classes,mixed bamboo forest is dominant—it occupied maximum area(77.99%)—while riparian forest is least represented(0.32%).Mixed forest has maximum number of patches among all vegetation classes.Results have shown that despite being dominant in the area,mixed bamboo forest has low patch density(0.25/100 ha).Dominance of mixed bamboo forest is attributed to large patch sizes and not to the number of patches.This study has focussed on the approach of integrating satellite forest classification and forest inventory data for studying forest landscape patterns.Ambica Paliwal Vinod Bihari 2014Journal of Forestry Research2014,25,1:3
6Connecting Malfunctioning Glial Cells and Brain Degenerative Disorders显示文摘The DNA damage response(DDR) is a complex biological system activated by different types of DNA damage.Mutations in certain components of the DDR machinery can lead to genomic instability disorders that culminate in tissue degeneration,premature aging,and various types of cancers.Intriguingly,malfunctioning DDR plays a role in the etiology of late onset brain degenerative disorders such as Parkinson's,Alzheimer's,and Huntington's diseases.For many years,brain degenerative disorders were thought to result from aberrant neural death.Here we discuss the evidence that supports our novel hypothesis that brain degenerative diseases involve dysfunction of glial cells(astrocytes,microglia,and oligodendrocytes).Impairment in the functionality of glial cells results in pathological neuro-glial interactions that,in turn,generate a ‘‘hostile' environment that impairs the functionality of neuronal cells.These events can lead to systematic neural demise on a scale that appears to be proportional to the severity of the neurological deficit.Natalie Kaminsky Ofer Bihari Sivan Kanner Ari Barzilai 2016Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2016,14,3:2

8CEACAM-1 Induced CSF3-receptor Downregulation in Bone Marrow Associated With Refractory Neutropenia in Advanced Cirrhosis显示文摘Background and Aims:Cirrhosis patients exhibit cyto-penia,and,at times refractory neutropenia to granulocyte colony-stimulating factor(G-CSF),which acts through the CSF3-receptor(CSF3R),and changes in CSF3R can affect the response.We conducted this study to assess the CSF3R status and its relevance in cirrhotic patients.Methods:Cirrhotic patients(n=127)and controls(n=26)with clini-cally indicated bone marrow(BM)examination were stud-ied.BM assessment was done by qRT-PCR and immunohis-tochemistry(IHC)for CSF3R.Circulating G-CSF,CSF3R,and carcinoembryonic antigen cell adhesion molecule-1(CEACAM1)were measured.BM hematopoietic precursor cells and their alterations were examined by flow cytom-etry.The findings were validated in liver cirrhosis patients who received G-CSF for severe neutropenia.Results:The mean age was 48.6±13.4 years,and 80.3%were men.Circulatory CSF3R reduction was noted with the advance-ment of cirrhosis,and confirmed by qRT-PCR and IHC in BM.CSF3R decline was related to decreased hematopoietic stem cells(HSCs)and downregulation of CSF3R in the re-maining HSCs.Cocultures confirmed that CEACAM1 led to CSF3R downregulation in BM cells by possible lysosomal degradation.Baseline low peripheral blood-(PB)-CSF3R also predisposed development of infections on follow-up.Decreased CSF3R was also associated with nonresponse to exogenous G-CSF treatment of neutropenia.Conclu-sions:Advanced liver cirrhosis was associated with low CSF3R and high CEACAM1 levels in the BM and circula-tion,making patients prone to infection and inadequate response to exogenous G-CSF.Chhagan Bihari Sukriti Baweja Seggere Murlaikrishna Shasthry Deepika Lal Preeti Negi Swati Thangariyal Dinesh Mani Tripathi Shiv Kumar Sarin 2022Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2022,10,1:2
9Diagnostic assays developed for the control of foot-andmouth disease in India显示文摘Foot-and-mouth disease(FMD) is a highly contagious and economically devastating disease of livestock, primarily affecting cattle, buffalo and pigs. FMD virus serotypes O, A and Asia1 are prevalent in India and systematic efforts are on to control and eventually eradicate the disease from the country. FMD epidemiology is complex due to factors like co-circulation, extinction, emergence and re-emergence of genotypes/lineages within the three serotypes, animal movement, diverse farm practices and large number of susceptible livestock in the country. Systematic vaccination, prompt diagnosis, strict biosecurity measures, and regular monitoring of vaccinal immunity and surveillance of virus circulation are indispensible features for the effective implementation of the control measures. Availability of suitable companion diagnostic tests is very important in this endeavour.
