5Evaluation of ischemic lesions after carotid artery stenting with diffusion-weighted imaging显示文摘BACKGROUND Almost 90%of cerebral thromboembolism cases are caused by atherosclerosis.Craniocervical atherosclerosis is often observed at the carotid bifurcation and is responsible for 20%-30%of all stroke cases.The course of atherosclerotic carotid artery stenosis varies depending on the grade of stenosis and characteristics of the plaque.Carotid artery stenting(CAS)can be used as a less invasive method in patients with symptomatic and asymptomatic high-grade carotid artery stenosis.Diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI)is an effective method for detection of silent or symptomatic acute ischemic lesions that may arise due to CAS or carotid endarterectomy.The number and volume of new ischemic lesions are determined using DWI.AIM To evaluate the number and volume of ischemic lesions and their cerebral parenchymal and vascular distribution after CAS using DWI.METHODS Forty-seven male(73.4%)and seventeen female(26.6%)patients(total,n=64)aged 42-84 years(mean 67.96±8.03 years)diagnosed with carotid stenosis between October 2006 and July 2012 were included in this retrospective study.Twelve of the cases(18.8%)were asymptomatic,while fifty-two(81.2%)were symptomatic.The area where the stenosis was highest was measured,and the stenosis rate was determined using the North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial method.DWI of the cases was evaluated by two radiologists experienced in neuroradiology(B.A.with more than 15 years of experience,E.G.with more than 10 years of experience).Routine DWI examinations were carried out by a 1.5 T MR device 1 h before and after the operation.Since the ischemic lesions that developed in the first hour and in the follow-up period of 5-24 h were assumed to be due to CAS,all lesions within the first 24 h were considered as new ischemias.RESULTS In the present study,39 new ischemic lesions were detected in 20 cases.The average number of new lesions after all CAS operations was 0.62.They were mostly located in the occipital lobes,followed by the frontal and parietal lobes.These new ischemic lesions were most common in the middle cerebral artery territory,followed by the posterior cerebral artery territory and middle cerebral artery-posterior cerebral artery watershed areas.New lesions were found in 31.2%(20/64)of patients,including 17(26.5%)in ipsilateral and three(4.6%)in contralateral hemispheres.New bilateral lesions were detected in one case(1.5%).The average volume of the new ischemic lesions detected by the two observers was 1.10 cm³.The numbers of newly appearing ischemic lesions in DWI after CAS were significantly higher in cases where stenting was applied on the left side of the carotid artery and in cases where longer plaques(>1 cm)were responsible for the narrowing in symptomatic patients.The stenosis rate was low in the group with ulcerated plaques.CONCLUSION New ischemic lesions due to CAS appear mostly in the main arterial territory but they may also occur in watershed areas.Murat Beyhan Berat Acu Erkan Gokce Mehmet Murat Firat 2020World Journal of Clinical Cases2020,8,10:1

11Emerging wet electrohydrodynamic approaches for versatile bioactive 3D interfaces显示文摘There is a compelling need for delicate nanomaterial design with various intricate functions and applications.Electrohydrodynamics applies electrostatic force to overcome the surface tension of a liquid jet,shrinking the jet through intrinsic jetting instabiity into submicron fibers or spheres,with versatilty from a huge selection of materials,feasibllity of extracellular matrix structure mimicry and multicompartmentalization for tissue engineering and drug delivery.The process typically involves the collection and drying of fibers at a solid substrate,but the introduction of a liquid phase collection by replacing the solid collector with a coagulation bath can introduce a variety of new opportunities for both chemical and physical functionalizations in one single step.The so-called wet electrohydrodynamics is an emerging technique that enables a facile,homogeneous functionalization of the intrinsic large surface area of the submicron fibers/spheres.With a thorough literature sweep,we herein highlight the three main engineering features integrated through the single step wet electrospinning process in terms of creating functional biomaterials:(i)The fabrication of 3D macrostructures,(ii)in situ chemical functionalization,and(iii)tunable nano-topography.Through an emerging technique,wet electrohydrodynamics has demonstrated a great potential in interdisciplinary research for the development of functional 3D interfaces and materials with pertinent applications in all fields where secondary structured,functional surface is desired.Among these,engineered biomaterials bridging materials science with biology have already shown particular potential..Mehmet Berat Taskin Lasse Hyldgaard Klausen Mingdong Dong Menglin Chen 2020Nano Research2020,13,2:1

13UPFC Based Real-Time Optimization of Power Systems for Dynamic Voltage Regulation显示文摘Flexible alternating current transmission system(FACTS)components are used to utilize the electrical transmission lines at their optimum capacity.The best way to achieve this optimization is to manage the active and reactive power flows.A unified power flow controller(UPFC)is one of the most significant devices developed for the effective control of power flows.Although conventional UPFC structures can be used to achieve this process,the expansion of power systems has led to the necessity of developing various UPFC devices.This paper focuses on an advanced real time control approach of UPFC for dynamic voltage regulation.The developed model is incorporated in the Gauss-Seidel(GS)power flow algorithm and the proposed method is validated on the IEEE-30 bus system that is designed under MATLAB/Simulink platform.As the proposed method was validated by comparing with the normal operating conditions,advantages were observed on two cases.In the first case,a generator outage is applied to system to observe behavior of proposed model in power loss conditions.In the second case,line fault conditions were used for observation.The results from testing the model for both cases prove that the approach has positive effects on dynamic power systems.Serhat Berat Efe 2018Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2018,,9:0
14An investigation into ball burnishing process of magnesium alloy on CNC lathe using different environments显示文摘Ball burnishing routine permits through a simple,fast and economical manner to obtain free chip on the manufactured parts.It generates a superior surface finish by rotating a ball tool against a workpiece.The burnishing process is commonly developed in industry in order to improve the surface quality,which is a critical issue in the manufacturing sector.An experimental study were carried out to determine the best surface quality for magnesium alloy subjected to d iff ere ni medium.Burnishing of magnesium alloy was performed varying four different mediums and combining different burnishing parameters.To design the experiment were used the classical Taguchi method through which were developed the L16 orthogonal array.This strategy allowed to detect the driving parameters that generate the best surface roughness value by computing the signal-to-noise ratio.The driving parameters values for this study are 400 N(force),0.05 mm/min(feed rate),three number of passes and boron oil as medium.The results are paramount important for designing heavy parts used in transportation vehicles such as automobiles,airplanes,high-speed trains etc.Suleyman Cinar Cagan Catalin Iulian Pruncu Berat Baris Buldum 2020Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2020,8,4:0
