| 1 | Gas chromatography mass spectrometry based metabolic profiling reveals biomarkers involved in rice-gall midge interactions显示文摘The Asian rice gall midge(Orseolia oryzae WoodMason) is a serious pest of rice that causes huge loss in yield.While feeding inside the susceptible host,maggots secrete substances that facilitate the formation of a hollow tube-like structure called gall and prevent panicle formation.The present investigation was carried out to get an account of biochemical changes occurring in the rice plant upon gall midge feeding.Metabolic profiling of host tissues from three rice varieties,namely,TN1,Kavya,and RP2068,exposed to gall midge biotype 1(GMB1),was carried out using gas chromatography mass spectrometry(GC-MS).TN1 and GMB1 represented compatible interaction,while Kavya and GMB1 as well as RP2068 and GMB1 represented incompatible interactions.The current study identified several metabolites that could be grouped as resistance,susceptibility,infestation,and host features based on their relative abundance.These may be regarded as biomarkers for insect-plant interaction in general and rice-gall midge interaction in particular. | Ruchi Agarrwal Jagadish Sanmallappa Bentur Suresh Nair | 2014 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2014,56,9: | 5 |
| 2 | Antixenosis and Tolerance of Rice Genotypes Against Brown Planthopper显示文摘Nine genotypes were evaluated under greenhouse conditions for antixenosis and tolerance against brown planthopper(BPH, Nilaparvata lugens St?l). In antixenosis studies, proportion of insects settled on a test genotype in relation to the susceptible control TN1 was recorded, with significantly lower proportion of nymphs(55.22%–59.18%), adult males(60.33%–60.75%), and adult females(80.56%–79.26%) settled on RP2068-18-3-5 and Ptb33 in relation to those on TN1. Based on number of feeding sites, the test genotypes were ranked in order from the highest to the lowest as RP2068-18-3-5, Ptb33, MR1523, Rathu Heenati, Sinnasivappu, ARC10550, MO1, INRC3021 and TN1. The order was exactly reverse in terms of fecundity expressed as number of eggs laid per female. In tolerance studies, days to wilt, functional plant loss index and plant dry weight loss to BPH dry weight produced were recorded. RP2068-18-3-5, Rathu Heenati and Ptb33 performed better than the other test genotypes. These results helped in relative quantification of BPH resistance levels in the genotypes. | 3 | 地塞米松吸入法治疗呼吸道合胞病毒性毛细支气管炎:双盲安慰剂对照研究显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the effect of inhaled dexamethasone on hospitalization for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) bronchiolitis. Study design: A double-bli nd, placebo-controlled study compared nebulization of dexamethasone versus nebu lization of 0.9%saline. Both groups were treated with epinephrine nebulizations . Follow-up continued for 3 mo. Patients and methods: Sixty-one infants with b ronchiolitis aged 3 to 12 mo were included. They were randomly allocated to nebu lizations with 0.25 mg dexamethasone every 6 h (group 1) or an equivalent amount of normal saline (group 2). Results: No statistically significant differences w ith respect to clinical score, oxygen saturation, or IV fluid requirement betwee n the groups were noted. Using Kaplan-Meyer’s method, the cumulative proportio n of in-hospital stay was significantly lower in group 1 compared with group 2, mainly in days 5 and 6 post-hospitalization (p < 0.038). A subgroup of prematu rely born children in group 1 had a shorter hospitalization period (6.5 ±1.7 d) compared with group 2 children (9.1 ±1.9) (p < 0.018). Follow-up revealed sim ilar wheeze and hospitalization rates in the two groups. Conclusion: Inhaled dex amethasone may reduce the length of hospitalization among infants with acute vir al bronchiolitis, especially among those born prematurely. | Bentur L. Shoseyov D.
