1Notch signaling mediated by TGF-β/Smad pathway in concanavalin A-induced liver fibrosis in rats显示文摘AIM To explore the exact interaction between Notch and transforming growth factor(TGF)-β signaling in liver fibrosis. METHODS We established a rat model of liver fibrosis induced by concanavalin A. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs) were isolated from the modeled rats, and cultured with γ-secretase inhibitor DAPT and TGF-β inhibitor for 24 h. The m RNA levels of Notch and TGF-β signaling were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. Expression of Notch and TGF-β proteins was analyzed by western blotting.RESULTS Compared to control rats, Notch and TGF-β signaling was activated in PBMCs of model rats. Administration of DAPT and TGF-β inhibitor suppressed Notch and TGF-β signal transducer in PBMCs of model rats. DAPT reduced m RNA and protein expression of TGF-β signaling, such as TGF-β1 and Smad3. TGF-β inhibitor also downregulated Notch1, Hes1 and Hes5, and m RNA and protein expression of the Notch signaling pathway.CONCLUSION Notch and TGF-β signaling play a role in liver fibrosis. 3Recent developments of large diameter X80 UOE line pipes显示文摘High-strength pipeline steel and large diameter line pipes are often used to increase the capacity of transportation and reduce the cost associated with the construction and operation of long-distance gas pipeline projects. China's initiatives to construct long-distance natural gas pipelines has brought in new opportunities for the development of X80 line pipes. Baosteel has designed the optimum chemical composition of X80 with high niobium and low molybdenum content. In addition,a welding experimental platform and a finite element model(FEM) have supported the development of X80 UOE pipes in an efficient and economical way. The application and recent development of X80 UOE pipes were introduced in this paper. To comply with the requirements of the Second West-East Gas Pipeline Project(2ndWEPP),X80 pipeline steel with low carbon bainite microstructure was developed by utilizing the optimized composition and TMCP process. The matching welding material,welding procedure and UOE forming processes for 1219mm outside diameter X80 UOE pipes were also developed. More than 340000 t of X80 UOE pipes were produced and applied in the 2ndWEPP. Furthermore,to meet the prospective demand for long-distance gas pipelines with an annual transportation capacity of over 40 billion m3,larger size X80UOE pipes with 1 422 mm OD × 30. 8 mm WT were trial produced recently. DWTT performance,the main technical challenge for heavier wall pipes,was improved by using optimized microstructural design. 4Dislocations-induced precipitates and their effect on mechanical properties of Mg-Gd-Y-Zr alloy显示文摘Optical microscope(OM),scanning electron microscope(SEM),transmission electron microscope(TEM)and tensile machine were used to characterize the microstructures and mechanical properties of as-forged and aged Mg-9.5Gd-3.8Y-0.6Zr alloys.The results show that a novel kind of dislocation arrays,comprising parallel arranged dislocations,were obtained in the forged alloy.The arrays tend to extend parallel and are heterogeneously distributed with adjacent distances varying from 0.3μm to 1.4μm.After aging the alloy at 265°C,a large number of preferential-oriented phases were precipitated on the dislocation arrays,forming a structure of'precipitation chains'(PCs),which results in simultaneous increments of strength and ductility.Chao You Churning Liu Yingchun Wan Bei Tang Bizheng Wang Yonghao Gao Xiuzhu Han 2019Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2019,7,3:8

6Characterization of 500 Chinese patients with cervical esophageal cancer by clinicopathological and treatment outcomes显示文摘Objective: There are no comprehensive studies on survival outcomes and optimal treatment protocols for cervical esophageal cancer(CEC), due to its rare clinical prevalence. Our objective was to determine the relationship between pathological characteristics, treatment protocols, and survival outcomes in Chinese CEC patients.Methods: A total of 500 Chinese CEC patients were selected from our 500,000 esophageal and gastric cardia carcinoma database(1973–2018). There were two main groups: patients treated with surgery, and patients receiving non-surgical treatments(radiotherapy, radiochemotherapy, and chemotherapy). The Chi-square test and Kaplan–Meier method were used to compare the continuous variables and survival.Results: Among the 500 CEC patients, 278(55.6%) were male, and the median age was 60.9 ± 9.4 years. A total of 496 patients(99.2%) were diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. In 171(34.2%) patients who received surgery, 22(12.9%) had undergone laryngectomy. In 322(64.4%) patients who received non-surgical treatments, 245(76.1%) received radiotherapy. Stratified survival analysis showed that only T stage was related with survival outcomes for CEC patients in the surgical group, and the outcomes between laryngectomy and non-laryngectomy patients were similar. It was noteworthy that the 5-year survival rate was similar in CEC patients among the different groups treated with surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or radiochemotherapy(P = 0.244). Conclusions: The CEC patients had similar survival outcomes after curative esophagectomy and radiotherapy, including those with or without total laryngectomy. 8Hemosuccus pancreaticus:a rare cause of gastrointestinal bleeding显示文摘BACKGROUND: Hemosuccus pancreaticus (HP) is defined as upper gastrointestinal (GI) hemorrhage from the papilla of Vater via the pancreatic duct and is a rare cause of digestive bleeding. DATA SOURCE: A PubMed search of relevant articles published from January 1967 to September 2011 was performed to identify current information about HP in terms of its etiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis and management. RESULTS: A variety of etiological factors, most commonly chronic pancreatitis but also tumors and vascular diseases, can lead to this condition. Appropriate endoscopic or radiologic procedures should be chosen to establish a precise diagnosis for patients, especially those with a known history of pancreatic disorders, who present with abdominal pain, GI hemorrhage and hyperamylasemia. There are two main therapeutic options for this condition: angiographic embolotherapy and surgery. Both treatments can stop bleeding, but angiographic embolotherapy is the treatment of choice for stable patients. Recently, new and less invasive treatments have emerged to treat this condition. CONCLUSIONS: Because of its rarity and broad spectrum of causes, HP is difficult to diagnose accurately. However, appropriate endoscopic and radiologic procedures are extremely helpful for establishing a correct diagnosis. Both angiographic embolotherapy and surgery are reliable treatment options for this condition, and transcatheter intervention is the treatment of choice for clinically stable patients. 10Quality of terrestrial data derived from UAV photogrammetry:A case study of Hetao irrigation district in northern China显示文摘Most crops in northern China are irrigated,but the topography affects the water use,soil erosion,runoff and yields.Technologies for collecting high-resolution topographic data are essential for adequately assessing these effects.Ground surveys and techniques of light detection and ranging have good accuracy,but data acquisition can be time-consuming and expensive for large catchments.Recent rapid technological development has provided new,flexible,high-resolution methods for collecting topographic data,such as photogrammetry using unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs).The accuracy of UAV photogrammetry for generating high-resolution Digital Elevation Model(DEM)and for determining the width of irrigation channels,however,has not been assessed.A fixed-wing UAV was used for collecting high-resolution(0.15 m)topographic data for the Hetao irrigation district,the third largest irrigation district in China.112 ground checkpoints(GCPs)were surveyed by using a real-time kinematic global positioning system to evaluate the accuracy of the DEMs and channel widths.A comparison of manually measured channel widths with the widths derived from the DEMs indicated that the DEM-derived widths had vertical and horizontal root mean square errors of 13.0 and 7.9 cm,respectively.UAV photogrammetric data can thus be used for land surveying,digital mapping,calculating channel capacity,monitoring crops,and predicting yields,with the advantages of economy,speed and ease.Hongming Zhang Jiangtao Yang Jantiene E.M.Baartman Shuqin Li Bei Jin Wenting Han Xiaomei Yang Lingtong Gai Coen J.Ritsema Violette Geissen 2018International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018,11,3:4
11Hospital-Based Phenotypic Features and Treatment Outcomes of Chinese Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: The Effect of Body Mass Index and Geographic Distribution显示文摘Genetic,lifestyle,and environmental factors contribute to the etiology of polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS).Increased body mass index(BMI)exacerbates the reproductive and metabolic parameters and reduces the fecundity of women with PCOS.This is a secondary analysis of a large-sample,multicenter,randomized controlled trial conducted at 21 sites in Chinese mainland.A total of 1000 women diagnosed with PCOS were enrolled in this trial.Of these,998 women with PCOS were included in the analysis.Increased BMI was associated with more severe menstrual irregularities,elevated testosterone level,higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome,and poorer quality of life.The rates of ovulation per woman for the normal,overweight,and obese BMI groups were 83.0%,78.2%,and 63.6%,respectively(P<0.001),and the rates of live birth were 23.6%,18.1%,and 15.3%(P=0.030).Northern PCOS patients showed more severe reproductive,glucose,and lipid profiles;less exercise;and lower total ovulation rates compared with PCOS patients from Southern China(74.8%vs 81.2%,absolute difference 6.4%,95%confidence interval 1.2%–11.5%).The results show the typical phenotypic features of Han women with PCOS in Northern and Southern China.The women living in Northern China showed a higher BMI,more severe glycolipid metabolism profiles,and subsequently worse clinical outcomes by the same interventions than those living in Southern China.The difference in phenotypic features can be explained mostly by differences in BMI and the resulting difference in ovulation.Jingshu Gao Hongli Ma Yu Wang Xinming Yang Yijuan Cao Bei Zhang Conghui Han Xiaoke Wua 2021Engineering2021,7,2:3

14Evaluation and prediction of slope stability using machine learning approaches显示文摘In this paper,the machine learning(ML)model is built for slope stability evaluation and meets the high precision and rapidity requirements in slope engineering.Different ML methods for the factor of safety(FOS)prediction are studied and compared hoping to make the best use of the large variety of existing statistical and ML regression methods collected.The data set of this study includes six characteristics,namely unit weight,cohesion,internal friction angle,slope angle,slope height,and pore water pressure ratio.The whole ML model is primarily divided into data preprocessing,outlier processing,and model evaluation.In the data preprocessing,the duplicated data are first removed,then the outliers are filtered by the LocalOutlierFactor method and finally,the data are standardized.11 ML methods are evaluated for their ability to learn the FOS based on different input parameter combinations.By analyzing the evaluation indicators R2,MAE,and MSE of these methods,SVM,GBR,and Bagging are considered to be the best regression methods.The performance and reliability of the nonlinear regression method are slightly better than that of the linear regression method.Also,the SVM-poly method is used to analyze the susceptibility of slope parameters.Shan LIN Hong ZHENG Chao HAN Bei HAN Wei LI 2021Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering2021,15,4:2
