| 1 | Minimal hepatic encephalopathy matters in daily life显示文摘Minimal hepatic encephalopathy is a neuro-cognitive dysfunction which occurs in an epidemic proportion of cirrhotic patients,estimated as high as 80% of the population tested. It is characterized by a specific,complex cognitive dysfunction which is independent of sleep dysfunction or problems with overall intelligence. Although named 'minimal',minimal hepatic encephalopathy(MHE) can have a far-reaching impact on quality of life,ability to function in daily life and progression to overt hepatic encephalopathy. Importantly,MHE has a profound negative impact on the ability to drive a car and may be a significant factor behind motor vehicle accidents. A crucial aspect of the clinical care of MHE patients is their driving history,which is often ignored in routine care and can add a vital dimension to the overall disease assessment. Driving history should be an integral part of care in patients with MHE. The lack of specific signs and symptoms,the preserved communication skills and lack of insight make MHE a difficult condition to diagnose. Diagnostic strategies for MHE abound,but are usually limited by financial,normative or time constraints. Recent studies into the inhibitory control and critical flicker frequency tests are encouraging since these tests can increase the rates of MHE diagnosis without requiring a psychologist. | 3 | PIECEWISE RATIONAL APPROXIMATIONS OF REAL ALGEBRAIC CURVES显示文摘We use a combination of both algebraic and numerical techniques to construct a C1-continuous, piecewise (m, n) rational E-approtimation of a real algebraic plane curve of degree d. At singular points we use the classical Weierstrass Preparation Theorem and Newton power series factorizations, based on the tecdrique of Hensel lifting. These, together with modifled rational Pade approkimations, are used to efficiently construct locally approximate, rational parametric representations for all real branches of an algebraic plane curve. Besides singular points we obtain an adaptive selection of simple points about which the curve approalmations yield a small number of pieces yet achieve C1 continuity between pieces. The simpler cases of C-1 and Co continuity are also handled in a sbolar manner. | 4 | Combustion synthesis and luminescence characteristic of rare earth activated LiCaBO_3显示文摘Lithium calcium borate (LiCaBO3) polycrystalline thermoluminescence (TL) phosphor doped with rare earth (Tb3+ and Dy3+) elements was synthesized by novel solution combustion synthesis. The reaction produced very stable crystalline LiCaBO3:D(D=Tb3+ and Dy3+) phosphors. These rare earth doped phosphors material showed maximum TL sensitivity with favorable glow curve shape. TL glow curve of X-ray irradiated that LiCaBO3:Tb3+ and LiCaBO3:Dy3+ samples showed two major well-separated glow peaks. The TL sensitivity of these phosphors to X-ray radiation was comparable with that of TLD-100(Harshaw). Photoluminescence spectra of LiCaBO3:Tb3+ and LiCaBO3:Dy3+ showed the characteristic Tb3+ and Dy3+ peaks respectively. TL response to X-ray radiation dose was linear up to 25 Gy. | N.S. Bajaj S.K. | 8 | A Context Sensitive Multilevel Thresholding Using Swarm Based Algorithms显示文摘In this paper, a comprehensive energy function is used to formulate the three most popular objective functions:Kapur's, Otsu and Tsalli's functions for performing effective multilevel color image thresholding. These new energy based objective criterions are further combined with the proficient search capability of swarm based algorithms to improve the efficiency and robustness. The proposed multilevel thresholding approach accurately determines the optimal threshold values by using generated energy curve, and acutely distinguishes different objects within the multi-channel complex images. | 11 | The heterodimeric structure of heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein C1/C2 dictates 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D-directed transcriptional events in osteoblasts显示文摘Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein(hnRNP) C plays a key role in RNA processing but also exerts a dominant negative effect on responses to 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D(1,25(OH)2D) by functioning as a vitamin D response element-binding protein(VDRE-BP). hnRNPC acts a tetramer of hnRNPC1(huC1) and hnRNPC2(huC2), and organization of these subunits is critical to in vivo nucleic acid-binding. Overexpression of either huC1 or huC2 in human osteoblasts is sufficient to confer VDRE-BP suppression of 1,25(OH)2D-mediated transcription. However, huC1 or huC2 alone did not suppress 1,25(OH)2D-induced transcription in mouse osteoblastic cells. By contrast, overexpression of huC1 and huC2 in combination or transfection with a bone-specific polycistronic vector using a ‘‘self-cleaving'' 2A peptide to co-express huC1/C2 suppressed1,25D-mediated induction of osteoblast target gene expression. Structural diversity of hnRNPC between human/NWPs and mouse/rat/rabbit/dog was investigated by analysis of sequence variations within the hnRNP CLZ domain. The predicted loss of distal helical function in hnRNPC from lower species provides an explanation for the altered interaction between huC1/C2 and their mouse counterparts. Starting from a first order energy functional,we obtain a general level set formulation of geometric partial differential equation,and provide an efficient approach to solving this partial differential equation using a C2 spline basis. We also present a fast cubic spline interpolation algorithm based on convolution and the Z-transform,which exploits the local relationship of interpolatory cubic spline coefficients with respect to given function data values.
