| 5 | Graft loss among renal-transplant recipients with early reduction of immunosuppression for BK viremia显示文摘AIM To review the incidence of graft loss and acute rejection among renal transplant recipients with early reduction of immunosuppression for BK viremia.METHODS We performed a retrospective analysis of consecutive de-novo kidney-only transplants from January 2009 to December 2012 to evaluate the incidence of Polyomavirus associated nephropathy(PyV AN). Recipient plasma was screened for BKV DNA via quantitative polymerase chain reaction(PCR) at months 1,3,6,9 and 12 post-transplant and on worsening graft function.Immunosuppression was reduced at ≥ 3-log copies/mL. Those with viremia of ≥ 4-log copies/mL(presumptive PyV AN) underwent renal transplant biopsy. Presumptive Py VAN(PP) and definitive Py VAN(DP; biopsy-proven) were treated by immunosuppression reduction(IR) only. RESULTS Among 319 kidney transplant recipients,the median age was 53 years(range 19-83),65.8% were male,and 58.9% were white. Biopsy-proven acute rejection was found in 18.5% within 0-168 wk. Death-censored graft loss occurred in 5.3%(n = 17) and graft loss attributable to PyV AN was 0.6%(n = 2). Forty-seven patients were diagnosed with PP(14.7%) and 18(5.6%) with DP. Graft loss among participants with PyV AN(8.5%) and those without(4.8%) was not significantly different. Deceased donor kidney transplantation(OR = 2.3,95%CI = 1.1-4.6) and AR(OR = 2.3,95%CI = 1.2-4.7) were associated with Py VAN in the multivariate analysis. BK viremia between 3 and 4-log copies/mL occurred in 27 patients,all of whom underwent IR. Of these,16(59%) never developed PyV AN while 11(41%) developed PyV AN(4 DP,7 PP) within a range of 11-39 wk. | 6 | The Palestinian Terrestrial Vertebrate Fauna Preserved at the Biology Exhibitions of the Universities of the Gaza Strip显示文摘The Gaza Strip(365 km^(2))of Palestine(27,000 km^(2))is home to a wealth of terrestrial vertebrate fauna.Some of these faunistic species find their ways to preservation at the local universities.Hence,the current study comes to document the Palestinian terrestrial vertebrate fauna acquired by the biology exhibitions(BEs)of Al-Azhar University,Islamic University of Gaza and Al-Aqsa University that are located at the Gaza City of the Gaza Strip.The amphibians,reptiles,birds and mammals preserved at BEs of the universities in question were surveyed and scientifically classified during a three-month period extending from January to March,2012.The study showed that all BEs of local universities are underdeveloped,lacking attention and suffer from specimen scarcity and good preservation.The BE at Al-Azhar University is the best in the arrangement and preservation of bird specimens.A total number of 200 specimens belonging to 54 terrestrial vertebrate fauna species,39 families and 17 orders was recorded at BEs.Reptiles constituted 40.7%of the total species recorded,followed by birds(38.9%),mammals(14.8%)and amphibians(5.6%).The Islamic University of Gaza was considered the best in terms of the number of preserved species(39.8%),followed by Al-Azhar University(36.3%)and Al-Aqsa University(23.9%).The Common Toad(Bufo viridis)was the most preserved among the amphibian species recorded.Squamata was the biggest reptilian order,comprising 20 species(8 lizards and 12 snakes),with the Syrian Black Snake(Coluber jugularis asianus)was the commonest.The Palestine Viper(Vipera palaestinae)is endemic to Palestine and most venomous and dangerous to human health.The Great White Pelican(Pelecanus onocrotalus)was the largest Palestinian bird preserved at BE of Al-Azhar University.The Egyptian Mongoose(Herpestes ichneumon)and the Common Badger(Meles meles)were the biggest mammalian specimens preserved,while the Palestine Mole-rat(Spalax leucodon ehrenbergi)was the only Palestine endemic species encountered among the preserved mammals.Finally,the improvement of BEs of local universities and the construction of a Central Museum of Natural History is highly recommended in order to change the Palestinians’attitudes toward a sustainable ecological conservation in the Gaza Strip. | Abdel Fattah N Abd Rabou Nour J Musallam Eman J Musallam Kamal E Elkahlout Kamal J Elnabris Tarek A El-Bashiti Ismail I Abdel Aziz Reham M Ishneiwra Eqbal S Radwan Hana S Saada Ashraf A Shafei Nedal A Fayyad Saleh N Mwafy Huda E Abu Amra Ramy A Abu Alajeen Mohammed F Abu Owda Randa N Alfarra Haifaa A Hassouna Reem A Hassouna Mohammed R Al-Agha Mohammed A Abd Rabou | 2020 | Research in Ecology2020,2,4: | 0 |
