Physical exercise in the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease显示文摘Dementia is one of the greatest global challenges for health and social care in the 21st century.Alzheimer’s disease(AD),the most common type of dementia,is by no means an inevitable consequence of growing old.Several lifestyle factors may increase,or reduce,an individual’s risk of developing AD.Much has been written over the ages about the benefits of exercise and physical activity.Among the risk factors associated with AD is a low level of physical activity. The relationship between physical and mental health was established several years ago.In this review,we discuss the role of exercise(aerobic and resistance)training as a therapeutic strategy for the treatment and prevention of AD.Older adults who exercise are more likely to maintain cognition. We address the main protective mechanism on brain function modulated by physical exercise by examining both human and animal studies. We will pay especial attention to the potential role of exercise in the modulation of amyloid b turnover, inflammation, synthesis and release of neurotrophins, and improvements in cerebral blood flow.Promoting changes in lifestyle in presymptomatic and predementia disease stages may have the potential for delaying one-third of dementias worldwide.Multimodal interventions that include the adoption of an active lifestyle should be recommended for older populations. | Adrian De la Rosa Gloria Olaso-Gonzalez Coralie Arc-Chagnaud Fernando Millan Andrea Salvador-Pascual Consolacion Garcıa-Lucerga Cristina Blasco-Lafarga Esther Garcia-Dominguez Aitor Carretero Angela G.Correas Jose Vina Mari Carmen Gomez-Cabrera | 2020 | Journal of Sport and Health Science2020,9,5: | 32
Fungal diversity notes 367-490:taxonomic and phylogenetic contributions to fungal taxa显示文摘This is a continuity of a series of taxonomic papers where materials are examined, described and novel | 3 | How utilizing the genes involved in drought tolerance could tackle the climate change-related food crisis?显示文摘The global population is expected to increase by 10 billion by 2050,the demand for food and water is also likely to increase.Several factors intensify the growing water scarcity, such as inefficient water use in the food value chain and inadequate infrastructure to save water. The changing climate also exacerbates the rising temperature by making the drier areas drier and negatively impacting agriculture production in most parts of the world.A decrease in precipitation has been observed in the tropics and sub-tropics,such as the Sahel region of Southern Africa, the Mediterranean,South Asia, and the Southwest of US since 1970(http://gffzz73fdc6a2db374da3sxqkux5wqf66p6p6k.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn). | Angela Fernando Michael Selvaraj Manabu Ishitani Kazuo Nakashima Kazuo Shinozaki Kazuko Yamaguchi-Shinozaki | 2021 | Molecular Plant2021,14,10: | 1

Agreement between IOLMaster 500 and Pentacam HR for keratometry assessment in type 2 diabetic and nondiabetic patients显示文摘AIM:To evaluate inter-device agreement of anterior keratometry obtained by the IOLMaster 500 and Pentacam HR in type 2 diabetic and non-diabetic patients.METHODS:Corneal measurements were sequentially performed in 60 diabetes mellitus(DM)and 48 age and sex-matched controls undergoing cataract surgery.Variables recorded included flat and steep keratometry, mean keratometry(Km),astigmatism magnitude, axis location,JO and J45 components.Bland-Altman plots and intraclass correlation coefficients were used for examination of agreement.Subgroup analyses were performed for astigmatism magnitude, diabetes duration, hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)levels and diabetic retinopathy(DR)stage.RESULTS:Agreement for Km and astigmatism magnitude were considered good and moderate, with 95%limits of agreement(LoA)of-1.09 to 1.23 diopters(D)and-0.83 to 0.86 D in DM group,respectively;and-0.59 to 0.72 D and-0.98 to 0.75 D in non-DM group, respectively. In contrast, the 95%LoA for corneal axis exceeded the clinically relevant margins in both groups. In the total sample, only 41 eyes(38%)had a smaller than 5-degree difference.Diabetes duration,HbA1c levels and DR stage were not found to significantly affect agreement.Logistic regression showed that higher corneal power(P=0.021)and astigmatism magnitude(P=0.011)were associated with a decreased risk of having a difference in axis location greater than 10-degrees.CONCLUSION:In both groups,IOLMaster and Pentacam agree well for corneal power and moderately for astigmatism. However, axis location disagreement is frequent in eyes with flatter corneas and small amounts of astigmatism. | Joao N Beato Joao Esteves-LeANDro David Reis Rita Matos Manuel Falcao Vítor Rosas Angela Carneiro FernANDo Falcao-Reis | 2020 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2020,13,6: | 1

Impact of hormonal modulation at proestrus on ovarian responses and uterine gene expression of suckled anestrous beef cows显示文摘Background: This study evaluated the impact of hormonal modulation at the onset of proestrus on ovarian response and uterine gene expression of beef cows. Methods: A total of 172 anestrous beef cows were assigned to one of four groups according to the treatment with estradiol cypionate(ECP) and/or equine chorionic gonadotropin(eCG) [CON(n = 43), ECP(n = 43), eCG(n = 44)and ECP + eCG(n = 42)].Results: ECP-treated cows(ECP and ECP + eCG groups) presented greater occurrence of estrus(44.6% vs. 65.4%; P = 0.01) and pregnancy per AI [47.1% vs. 33.3%; P = 0.07], but similar progesterone(P4) concentration at subsequent diestrus than cows not treated with ECP(CON and eCG groups). Nonetheless, eCG-treated cows(eCG and ECP + eCG groups) presented larger follicle at timed AI(12.6 ± 0.3 vs. 13.5 ± 0.3 mm; P = 0.03), greater ovulation rate(96.5%vs. 82.6%; P = 0.008) and greater P4 concentration at d 6(3.9 ± 0.2 vs. 4.8 ± 0.2 ng/mL; P = 0.001) than cows not treated with eCG(CON and ECP groups). Next, cows with a new corpus luteum 6 d after TAI were submitted to uterine biopsy procedure. Uterine fragments [CON(n = 6), ECP(n = 6)] were analyzed by RNA-Seq and a total of 135 transcripts were differentially expressed between groups(73 genes up-regulated by ECP treatment). Subsequently, uterine samples were analyzed by q PCR(genes associated with cell proliferation). ECP treatment induced greater abundance of PTCH2(P = 0.07) and COL4 A1(P = 0.02), whereas suppressed EGFR(P = 0.09) expression. Conversely, eCG treatment increased abundance of HB-EGF(P = 0.06), ESR2(P = 0.09), and ITGB3(P = 0.05), whereas it reduced transcription of ESR1(P = 0.05). Collectively, supplementation with ECP or eCG at the onset of proestrous of anestrous beef cows influenced ovarian responses, global and specific endometrial gene expression. Conclusion: Proestrus estradiol regulate the endometrial transcriptome, particularly stimulating proliferative activity in the endometrium. | Manoel Francisco de Sá Filho Angela Maria Gonella-Diaza Mariana Sponchiado Marcio Ferreira Mendanha Guilherme Pugliesi Roney dos Santos Ramos Sónia Cristina da Silva Andrade Gustavo Gasparin Luiz Lehmann Coutinho Marcelo Demarchi Goissis Fernando Silveira Mesquita Pietro Sampaio Baruselli Mario Binelli | 2018 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2018,9,1: | 0
Going deep:Roots, carbon, and analyzing subsoil carbon dynamics显示文摘Agricultural practices currently contribute to the emission of approximately 10%–12%atmospheric greenhouse gasses, with tillage agriculture accelerating soil disruption and carbon dioxide release.Nevertheless, various options exist, such as converting new lands for agriculture, promoting healthier plant-based diets, adopting advanced management technologies, and minimizing food loss. However, these measures alone are insufficient to ensure environmental sustainability within planetary boundaries. | Ezhilmathi Angela Joseph Fernando Michael Selvaraj Yusaku Uga Wolfgang Busch Hunt Bowers Joe Tohme | 2024 | Molecular Plant2024,17,1: | 0
The power of phenomics:Improving genebank value and utility显示文摘Genebanks are considered the'crown jewels'of research organizations,as they safeguard valuable plant genetic resources and address the emerging challenges posed by climate-related constraints(Anglin et al.,2018).Currently,7.4 million accessions have been conserved in 1750 gene banks worldwide.Of these, only 10%are being used for crop improvement(Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture,2010).The limited availability of passport data and the challenge of characterizing trait attributes of accessions at large scale are some of the challenges to relate their true value(Tadesse et al.,2019).Obtaining traits such as agronomic or nutritional characteristics requires extensive field phenotyping and multiple site testing over several seasons. This will create value with accurate evaluation of genotype-by-environmental variation in a given trait. The use of low-cost high-throughput phenotyping(HTP)methods to characterize the genotypic and phenotypic representations of genebank genetic resources, otherwise known as genebank phenomics, will help in understanding crops'potential for use in breeding programs with desirable traits. | Ezhilmathi Angela Joseph Fernando Michael Selvaraj Kioumars Ghamkhar | 2023 | Molecular Plant2023,16,7: | 0
