Hepatogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells induced by insulin like growth factor-Ⅰ显示文摘AIM:To improve hepatic differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cell(MSC)using insulin growth factor 1(IGF-Ⅰ),which has important role in liver development, hepatocyte differentiation and function.METHODS:Bone marrow of healthy donors was aspirated from the iliac crest. The adherent cells expanded rapidly and were maintained with periodic passages until a relatively homogeneous population was established. The identification of these cells was carried out by immunophenotype analysis and differentiation potential into osteocytes and adipocytes. To effectively induce hepatic differentiation,we designed a protocol based on a combination of IGF-Ⅰ and liver specificfactors(hepatocyte growth factor, oncostatin M and dexamethasone).Morphological features, hepatic functions and cytological staining were assessed to evaluate transdifferentiation of human marrow-derived MSCs.RESULTS:Flow cytometric analysis and the differentiation potential into osteoblasts and adipocytes showed that more than 90% of human MSCs which were isolated and expanded were positive by specif ic markers and functional tests.Morphological assessment and evaluation of glycogen storage, albumin and α-feto protein expression,as well as albumin and urea secretion revealed a statistically signif icant difference between the experimental groups and control.CONCLUSION:In vitro differentiated MSCs using IGF-Ⅰwere able to display advanced liver metabolic functions, supporting the possibility of developing them as potential alternatives to primary hepatocytes. | Maryam Ayatollahi Masoud Soleimani Seyed Ziaadin Tabei Maryam Kabir Salmani | 2011 | World Journal of Stem Cells2011,3,12: | 10
Fuzzy expert system for diagnosing diabetic neuropathy显示文摘AIM To design a fuzzy expert system to help detect and diagnose the severity of diabetic neuropathy. METHODS The research was completed in 2014 and consisted of two main phases. In the first phase, the diagnostic parameters were determined based on the literature review and by investigating specialists' perspectives(n= 8). In the second phase, 244 medical records related to the patients who were visited in an endocrinology and metabolism research centre during the first six months of 2014 and were primarily diagnosed with diabetic neuropathy, were used to test the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of the fuzzy expert system.RESULTS The final diagnostic parameters included the duration of diabetes, the score of a symptom examination based on the Michigan questionnaire, the score of a sign examination based on the Michigan questionnaire, the glycolysis haemoglobin level, fasting blood sugar, blood creatinine, and albuminuria. The output variable was the severity of diabetic neuropathy which was shown as a number between zero and 10, had been divided into four categories: absence of the disease,(the degree of severity) mild, moderate, and severe. The interface of the system was designed by ASP.Net(Active Server Pages Network Enabled Technology) and the system function was tested in terms of sensitivity(true positive rate)(89%), specificity(true negative rate)(98%), and accuracy(a proportion of true results, both positive and negative)(93%).CONCLUSION The system designed in this study can help specialistsand general practitioners to diagnose the disease more quickly to improve the quality of care for patients. | Meysam Rahmani Katigari Haleh Ayatollahi Mojtaba Malek Mehran Kamkar Haghighi | 2017 | World Journal of Diabetes2017,8,2: | 5
调节基于老鼠样品改进人的间充质的干细胞的扩大显示文摘 AIM: To improve the isolation and expansion of human marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) based on rat samples. METHODS: Based on the fact that rat MSCs are relatively easy to obtain from a small aspirate, bone marrow-derived MSCs from rat were cultured and characterized to set up the different protocols used in this study. Then, accordingly, almost the same protocols were performed on human healthy bone marrow samples, after obtaining approval of the ethics committee and gaining informed consent. We used different protocols and culture conditions, including the type of basal media and the culture composition. The MSCs were characterized by immunophenotyping and differentiation. RESULTS: There was no difference in morphology and proliferation capacity between different culture media at the first passage. During the 5-7th passages, the cells gradually lost their morphology and proliferation potential on Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium (DMEM) high glucose and α modified Eagle’s medium. Although the cells expanded rapidly for up to 10 passages on DMEM low glucose containing 10% to 15% fetal calf serum (FCS), their proliferation was arrested without change in morphology and differentiation capacity at the third passage on 5% FCS. Flow cytometric analysis and functional tests confirmed that more than 90% of marrow cells which were isolated and expanded by our selective protocols were MSCs. CONCLUSION: We improved the isolation and expansion of human bone marrow derived MSCs, based on rat sample experiments, for further experimental and clinical use. | Maryam Ayatollahi Maryam Kabir Salmani Bita Geramizadeh Seyed Ziaadin Tabei Masoud Soleimani Mohammad Hosein Sanati | 2012 | World Journal of Stem Cells2012,4,1: | 5
Effect of water salinity on oil/brine interfacial behaviour during low salinity waterflooding: A mechanistic study显示文摘In recent years, controlling the salinity and composition of the injected water has become an emerging enhanced oil recovery(EOR)technique, often described as low salinity(LS)waterflooding. This work is done with the intention to contribute to the ongoing discussions about LS waterflooding mechanism(s).For this purpose,a series of different experiments were conducted. At first, the effect of salinity on the interfacial tension(IFT)and the contact angle was evaluated with a crude oil sample. Then to achieve more accurate results in observing oil/water interface, similar IFT experiments were also carried out on a synthetic oil containing asphaltenes.Thereafter, microscopic visualization using glass micromodel was performed on the interface of the synthetic oil sample and brines.Four brine solutions including Sea Water(SW),it's dilutions and formation water(FW)were used for various experiments. Finally,to investigate the presented mechanism by other authors,a series of Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy(ESEM)analysis on the synthetic oil was carried out to understand better the phase behaviour after contacting both synthetic oil and water phases from the micromodel experiment.Based on the existing mechanism, there exists an optimal concentration beyond which dilution is no longer an effective process. | Peyman Rostami Mohammad Fattahi Mehraban Mohammad Sharifi Morteza Dejam Shahab Ayatollahi | 2019 | Petroleum2019,5,4: | 5
The impact of connate water saturation and salinity on oil recovery and CO2 storage capacity during carbonated water injection in carbonate rock显示文摘Carbonated water injection(CWI)is known as an efficient technique for both CO2 storage and enhanced oil recovery(EOR).During CWI process,CO2 moves from the water phase into the oil phase and results in oil swelling. This mechanism is considered as a reason for EOR.Viscous fingering leading to early breakthrough and leaving a large proportion of reservoir un-swept is known as an unfavorable phenomenon during flooding trials.Generally, instability at the interface due to disturbances in porous medium promotes viscous fingering phenomenon.Connate water makes viscous fingers longer and more irregular consisting of large number of tributaries leading to the ultimate oil recovery reduction. Therefore, higher in-situ water content can worsen this condition.Besides, this water can play as a barrier between oil and gas phases and adversely affect the gas diffusion, which results in EOR reduction. On the other hand, from gas storage point of view,it should be noted that CO2 solubility is not the same in the water and oil phases. In this study for a specified water salinity, the effects of different connate water saturations(Swc)on the ultimate oil recovery and CO2 storage capacity during secondary CWI are being presented using carbonate rock samples from one of Iranian carbonate oil reservoir. The results showed higher oil recovery and CO2 storage in the case of lower connate water saturation,as 14%reduction of Swc resulted in 20%and 16%higher oil recovery and CO2 storage capacity, respectively. | Mahmood Shakiba Masoud Riazi Shahab Ayatollahi Mostafa Takband | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2019,27,7: | 4
Accurate Classification of EEG Signals Using Neural Networks Trained by Hybrid Populationphysic-based Algorithm显示文摘A brain-computer interface(BCI)system is one of the most effective ways that translates brain signals into output commands.Different imagery activities can be classified based on the changes inμandβrhythms and their spatial distributions.Multi-layer perceptron neural networks(MLP-NNs)are commonly used for classification.Training such MLP-NNs has great importance in a way that has attracted many researchers to this field recently.Conventional methods for training NNs,such as gradient descent and recursive methods, have some disadvantages including low accuracy, slow convergence speed and trapping in local minimums. In this paper,in order to overcome these issues, the MLP-NN trained by a hybrid population-physics-based algorithm, the combination of particle swarm optimization and gravitational search algorithm(PSOGSA),is proposed for our classification problem. To show the advantages of using PSOGSA that trains NNs,this algorithm is compared with other meta-heuristic algorithms such as particle swarm optimization(PSO),gravitational search algorithm(GSA)and new versions of PSO.The metrics that are discussed in this paper are the speed of convergence and classification accuracy metrics. The results show that the proposed algorithm in most subjects of encephalography(EEG)dataset has very better or acceptable performance compared to others. | Sajjad Afrakhteh Mohammad-Reza Mosavi Mohammad Khishe Ahmad Ayatollahi | 2020 | International Journal of Automation and computing2020,17,1: | 4
Experimental investigation on CO_2-light crude oil interfacial and swelling behavior显示文摘A systematic series of experiments are designed and performed including interfacial tension(IFT) measurements concomitant with Bond(BN,the ratio of gravity forces to capillary forces) and swelling/extraction measurements.Dynamic IFT, BN and swelling/extraction are measured as a function of pressure at temperatures of 30,50 and 80 ℃.In addition, in the light of measured IFT the minimum miscibility pressure(MMP) of CO_2 and light crude oil is determined based on a method called vanishing interfacial tension(VIT). The obtained results interestingly revealed that equilibrium IFT decreases linearly with pressure in two distinct pressure intervals while equilibrium BN shows an increasing trend as a function of pressure for all of the studied cases while no obvious trend is observed for swelling of crude oil and extraction of light-components regarding time, temperature and pressure. | Mostafa Lashkarbolooki Shahab Ayatollahi | 2018 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2018,26,2: | 2
Experimental and modeling investigation of dynamic interfacial tension of asphaltenic–acidic crude oil/aqueous phase containing different ions显示文摘In this way, after experimental measurement of interfacial tension, different models including mono-exponential decay, dynamic adsorption models and empirical equation are used to correlate this time-dependent behavior of interfacial tension(IFT). During the modeling approach, the induction, adsorption, equilibrium, and mesoequilibrium times as well as diffusivity of surface active components known as natural surfactant including asphaltene and resin from crude oil to the interface are obtained. In addition, the surface excess concentration of surface active components at the interface and Gibbs adsorption isotherm are utilized to analyze the measured dynamic IFTs. Finally, the mechanisms of crude oil/aqueous solution IFT including(a) the activity of surfaceactive components and(b) surface excess concentration of them at fluid/fluid interface are proposed and discussed in details. | Mostafa Lashkarbolooki Shahab Ayatollahi | 2017 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2017,25,12: | 2
Activating solution gas drive as an extra oil production mechanism after carbonated water injection显示文摘Enhanced oil recovery(EOR)methods are mostly based on different phenomena taking place at the interfaces between fluid–fluid and rock–fluid phases.Over the last decade, carbonated water injection(CWI)has been considered as one of the multi-objective EOR techniques to store CO2 in the hydrocarbon bearing formations as well as improving oil recovery efficiency.During CWI process,as the reservoir pressure declines, the dissolved CO2 in the oil phase evolves and gas nucleation phenomenon would occur. As a result,it can lead to oil saturation restoration and subsequently, oil displacement due to the hysteresis effect. At this condition,CO2 would act as insitu dissolved gas into the oil phase, and play the role of an artificial solution gas drive(SGD).In this study, the effect of SGD as an extra oil recovery mechanism after secondary and tertiary CWI(SCWI-TCWI)modes has been experimentally investigated in carbonate rocks using coreflood tests. The depressurization tests resulted in more than 25%and 18%of original oil in place(OOIP)because of the SGD after SCWI and TCWI tests, respectively. From the ultimate enhanced oil recovery point of view, the efficiency of SGD was observed to be more than one-third of that of CWI itself.Furthermore, the pressure drop data revealed that the system pressure depends more on the oil production pattern than water production. | Mahmood Shakiba Shahab Ayatollahi Masoud Riazi | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,11: | 2
Dissociation of polar oil components in low salinity water and its impact on crude oil-brine interfacial interactions and physical properties显示文摘Despite many efforts into the study of fluids interaction in low salinity water flooding, they are not probing the basics of transport phenomena between the involved phases. This work is aimed to bring new understanding of fluid-fluid interaction during low salinity water flooding through a series of organized experiments in which a crude oil sample with known properties was kept in contact with different brine solutions of various ionic strengths. Measuring brine pH, conductivity and crude oil viscosity and density for a period of 45 days illustrates the strong effect of the contact time and ionic strength on the dissociation of polar components and physical properties of the crude oil and brine. Besides, the interfacial tension(IFT) measurements show that the interfacial interactions are affected by several competitive interfacial processes. By decreasing the ionic strength of the brine, the solubility of naphthenic acids in the aqueous solution increases, and hence, the conductivity and the pH of the aqueous phase decrease. To verify this important finding, UV-Vis spectroscopy and 'H NMR analysis were also performed on aged brine samples. Notably, there is an ionic strength of brine in which the lowest IFT is observed, while the other physical properties are remained relatively unchanged. | Rasoul Mokhtari Shahab Ayatollahi | 2019 | Petroleum Science2019,16,2: | 2
Viscous fingering and its effect on areal sweep efficiency during waterflooding: an experimental study显示文摘Viscous fingering is one of the main challenges that could reduce areal sweep efficiency during waterflooding in oil reservoirs. A series of waterflooding experiments were carried out in a Hele-Shaw cell at ambient temperature during which areal sweep efficiency was estimated and techniques to ease the fingering problem were examined. The onset and propagation of viscous fingers were monitored as a function of both injection rate and injection/production positions. Image processing techniques were utilized to quantitatively investigate the propagation of fingers. The experimental results show that, under specific conditions, increasing the number of finger branches could improve the areal sweep efficiency, whereas growth of a single narrow finger has a negative impact on oil displacement efficiency. According to the obtained results, increasing the injection rate improves the areal sweep efficiency up to a critical rate at which viscous fingers start to grow. The impact of heterogeneity of the medium on distributing the viscous fingers was also investigated by introducing two different arrangements of fractures in the model. The results show that fractures perpendicular to the direction of flow would distribute the displacing water more uniformly, while fractures in the direction of flow would amplify the unfavorable sweep efficiency. | Zahra Kargozarfard Masoud Riazi Shahab Ayatollahi | 2019 | Petroleum Science2019,16,1: | 2
