| 1 | Is there a relationship between vitamin D with insulin resistance and diabetes mellitus?显示文摘Available data suggest a possible link between abnormalvitamin D level and abnormal glucose homeostasis,two of the most common chronic medical conditions.Both conditions are associated with inflammation,and the exact mechanism for role of either on the other is not well clear.Literature investigating the link between vitamin D and either pre-diabetic states or diabetes is reviewed.Vitamin D deficiency is detrimental to insulin synthesis and secretion in animal and human studies.In humans,it has been shown by majority of observational studies,that vitamin D is positively correlated with insulin sensitivity and its role is mediated both by direct mechanism through the availability of vitamin D receptors in several tissues and indirectly through the changes in calcium levels.Large number of,but not all,variable samples cross sectional human trials have demonstrated an inverse relation between vitamin D status and impaired glucose tolerance,insulin resistance or diabetes.To compliment this conclusively,evidence from intervention studies is critically warranted before we can frankly state that vitamin D plays a role in diabetes prevention or treatment.Absence of both sizable prospective observational trials utilizing 25(OH)D as the main variable and the non-availability of randomized studies specifically designed to assess the effects of vitamin D on pre-diabetes and diabetes states,are the main obstacles to draw solid and conclusive relationships. | Kamal AS Al-Shoumer Thamer M Al-Essa | 2015 | World Journal of Diabetes2015,6,8: | 13 |

| 3 | Influence of diversion angle on water and sediment flow into diversion channel显示文摘Accumulation of the sediment in the stream of the diversion channels adversely affects its operational systems.Diversion channels are often constructed perpendicular to the main river.In this study,the water flow and sediment transport in the diversion channel with different angles were investigated in an attempt to maximize water discharge and minimize sediment discharge.A physical model with movable bed was used to simulate water and sediment flow with five diversion angles(θ)between(30°-90°).Moreover,three bed width ratios(Br)(the relation between diversion to main channel bed width)between 30%and 50%and five total discharges between(7.25 L/s to 12.25 L/s)were considered for each case of(θ).The results showed,up to 10%,increasing in proportion discharge ratios for 30 and 45 diversion angles compared with 90° diversion angle.The results also showed that the lowest diversion sediment concentration was provided by the(θ)of 30°.Across all scenarios,the average proportion concentration reduction was 64%,compared with 90diversion angle.Closer observation of the diversion system mechanism confirmed that decreased(θ)result in decreased sediment concentrations in the diversion channels.In conclusion,the diversion channel water and sediment discharge could be effectively managed by changing the(θ)to 30° or 45° instead of 90°. | Nashwan Kamalaldeen Alomari Badronnisa Yusuf Thamer Ahmad Mohammad Abdul Halim Ghazali | 2020 | International Journal of Sediment Research2020,35,6: | 4 |

| 6 | Broad bandwidth SOA-based multiwavelength laser incorporating a bidirectional Lyot filter显示文摘We demonstrate a broad bandwidth multiwavelength laser based on a bidirectional Lyot filter and a semiconductor optical amplifier with a mechanism of intensity-dependent loss as the flatness agent. A wide bandwidth of a multiwavelength spectrum of 32.9 nm within a 5 dB uniformity is obtained under optimized polarization parameters. For this case, the number of generated lasing lines is 329 with a fixed wavelength separation of 0.1 nm. The power stability of this multiwavelength laser is less than 1.35 dB within 200 min time frame.
