1Colorectal cancer:Metastases to a single organ显示文摘Colorectal cancer(CRC) is a common malignancy worldwide. In CRC patients, metastases are the main cause of cancer-related mortality. In a group of metastatic CRC patients, the metastases are limited to a single site(solitary organ); the liver and lungs are the most commonly involved sites. When metastatic disease is limited to the liver and/or lungs, the resectability of the metastatic lesions will dictate the management approach and the outcome. Less commonly, the site of solitary organ CRC metastasis is the peritoneum. In these patients, cytoreduction followed by hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy may improve the outcome. Rarely, CRC involves other organs, such as the brain, bone, adrenals and spleen, as the only site of metastatic disease. There are limited data to guide clinical practice in these cases. 4Two-dimensional MXenes for lithium-sulfur batteries显示文摘Rechargeable lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries have attracted significant research attention due to their high capacity and energy density.However,their commercial applications are still hindered by challenges such as the shuttle effect of soluble lithium sulfide species,the insulating nature of sulfur,and the fast capacity decay of the electrodes.Various efforts are devoted to address these problems through questing more conductive hosts with abundant polysulfide chemisorption sites,as well as modifying the separators to physically/chemically retard the polysulfides migration.Two dimensional transition metal carbides,carbonitrides and nitrides,so-called MXenes,are ideal for confining the polysulfides shuttling effects due to their high conductivity,layered structure as well as rich surface terminations.As such,MXenes have thus been widely studied in Li-S batteries,focusing on the conductive sulfur hosts,polysulfides interfaces,and separators.Therefore,in this review,we summarize the significant progresses regarding the design of multifunctional MXene-based Li-S batteries and discuss the solutions for improving electrochemical performances in detail.In addition,challenges and perspectives of MXenes for Li-S batteries are also outlined.Chuanfang(John)Zhang Linfan Cui Sina Abdolhosseinzadeh Jakob Heier 2020InfoMat2020,2,4:16
5Assessment of the anterior chamber parameters after laser iridotomy in primary angle close suspect using Pentacam and gonioscopy显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the changes in the anterior segment parameters of the subjects with primary angle closure suspect(PACS) before and after laser iridotomy(LI) using the Pentacam and gonioscopy. METHODS:Forty-eight eyes of 48 PACS were included.Anterior chamber angle(ACA),central anterior chamber depth(ACD),anterior chamber volume(ACV) and central corneal thickness(CCT) were recorded from the Pentacam before and one month after LI.ACA was graded according to Shaffer classification using Goldmann gonioscopy.RESULTS:ACA increased significantly from 25.59±4.41 to 26.46±4.33 degrees(P=0.009) and ACV changed from 85.97±16.07mm3to 99.25±15.83mm3(P=0.000).The changes in ACD,CCT and intraocular pressure were non-significant(P>0.05).Gonioscopy showed significant widening of the Shaffer angle in 4 quadrants(P<0.001).CONCLUSION:Pentacam can serve as the objective instrument in assessing the efficacy of LI.Alireza Esmaeili Behzad Barazandeh Sina Ahmadi Alireza Haghi Seyed Mahdi Ahmadi Hosseini Fereshteh Abolbashari 2013International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2013,6,5:8

7Progress in the development of vaccines for hepatitis C virus infection显示文摘The hepatitis C virus(HCV), first described in 1989, is now a leading cause of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. With more than 170 million people infected globally, this virus is a major public health issue. The current standard therapy is based on interferon in combination with ribavirin. This costly therapy often fails to completely clear the infection and is associated with adverse side effects. Recent anti-HCV therapies are interferon-free direct-acting antiviral(DAA) regimens for HCV, including simeprevir, sofosbuvir, and ledipasvir, which have effects on non-structural proteins. DAA regimens have several advantages, such as specifically targeting HCV viral replication, accompanied by very high sustained virological response rates and lower side effects like flu-like syndrome. These facts plus the fact that most HCV cases progress to chronic infection suggest the potential need for an efficient HCV vaccine. Different innovative methods, including methods based on peptide, recombinant protein, DNA, vector-based, and virus-like particles, have been introduced for the development of HCV vaccines. An extensive number of studies have been published on these vaccines, and some vaccines were even tested in clinical trials. 8Failed biliary cannulation: Clinical and technical outcomes after tertiary referral endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography显示文摘AIM: Prospective evaluation of repeat endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for failed Schutz grade 1 biliary cannulation in a high-volume center. METHODS: Prospective intention-to-treat analysis of patients referred for biliary cannulation following recent unsuccessful ERCP. RESULTS: Fifty-one patients (35 female; mean age: 62.5 years; age range: 40-87 years) with previous failed biliary cannulation were referred for repeat ERCP. The indication for ERCP was primarily choledocholithiasis (45%) or pancreatic malignancy (18%). Successful biliary can- nulation was 100%. The precut needle knife sphincterotomy (NKS) rate was 27.4%. Complications occurred in 3.9% (post-ERCP pancreatitis). An identif iable reason for initial unsuccessful biliary cannulation was present in 55% of cases. Compared to a cohort of 940 nave pa-pilla patients (female 61%; mean age: 59.9 years; age range: 18-94 years) who required sphincterotomy over the same time period, there was no statistical difference in the cannulation success rate (100% vs 98%) or postERCP pancreatitis (3.1% vs 3.9%). Precut NKS use was more frequent (27.4% vs 12.7%) (P = 0.017). 11Sodium alendronate loaded poly(L-lactideco-glycolide)microparticles immobilized on ceramic scaffolds for local treatment of bone defects显示文摘Bone tissue regeneration in critical-size defects is possible after implantation of a 3D scaffold and can be additionally enhanced once the scaffold is enriched with drugs or other factors supporting bone remodelling and healing.Sodium alendronate(Aln),a widely used anti-osteoporosis drug,exhibits strong inhibitory effect on bone resorption performed by osteoclasts.Thus,we propose a new approach for the treatment of bone defects in craniofacial region combining biocompatible titanium dioxide scaffolds and poly(L-lactide-co-glycolide)microparticles(MPs)loaded with Aln.The MPs were effectively attached to the surface of the scaffolds’pore walls by human recombinant collagen.Drug release from the scaffolds was characterized by initial burst(2466% of the drug released within first 24 h)followed by a sustained release phase(on average 5 mg of Aln released per day from Day 3 to Day 18).In vitro tests evidenced that Aln at concentrations of 5 and 2.5 mg/ml was not cytotoxic for MG-63 osteoblast-like cells(viability between 8166% and 9863% of control),but it prevented RANKL-induced formation of osteoclast-like cells from macrophages derived from peripheral blood mononuclear cells,as shown by reduced fusion capability and decreased tartrateresistant acid phosphatase 5b activity(5665% reduction in comparison to control after 8 days of culture).Results show that it is feasible to design the scaffolds providing required doses of Aln inhibiting osteoclastogenesis,reducing osteoclast activity,but not affecting osteoblast functions,which may be beneficial in the treatment of critical-size bone tissue defects.Lucja Rumian Cornelia Wolf-Brandstetter Sina Roβler Katarzyna Reczynska Hanna Tiainen Havard J.Haugen Dieter Scharnweber Elzbieta Pamula 2020Regenerative Biomaterials2020,7,3:5
12Influence of alumina on mineralogy and environmental properties of zinc-copper smelting slags显示文摘An iron-silicate slag, from a zinc-copper smelting process, and mixtures of this slag with 5wt%, 10wt%, and 15wt% alumina addition were re-melted, semi-rapidly solidified, and characterized using scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The FactSage TM 6.2 thermodynamic package was applied to compare the stable phases at equilibrium conditions with experimental characterization. A standard European leaching test was also carried out for all samples to investigate the changes in leaching behaviour because of the addition of alumina. Results show that the commonly reported phases for slags from copper and zinc production processes (olivine, pyroxene, and spinel) are the major constituents of the current samples. A correlation can be seen between mineralogical characteristics and leaching behaviours. 15Effects of humidity on shear behavior of bamboo显示文摘Bamboo is a naturally occurring biological composite, however its microstructure and hence its properties are very complex compared to the manmade composites. Due to optimization, it can be assumed that the variation in properties along the thickness of the culm be a smooth transition for better bonding strength between layers and to prevent non uniformity in stress concentration. As a consequence,biological structures are complicated and functionally graded. Hence, a realistic model that can capture the mechanical performance of bamboo is valuable in future design of robust multifunctional composites.This paper presents the results of experimental and numerical studies on the torsional(shear) properties of bamboo. The hierarchical and multi-scale structure of bamboo and the distribution of micro-scale fibers are revealed via laser scanning and atomic force microscopy. This information was incorporated into a finite element model to analyze the mechanical behavior of bamboo under torsion and to estimate the shear modulus of bamboo along the fibers. Moreover, the effects of humidity and therefore water content on the mechanical properties of bamboo were evaluated by performing torsion tests on samples maintained in environments with different humidities. Increasing the humidity does not cause a drop in the shear modulus, however, a jump in the shear modulus did occur at around 60% humidity. Results of this study indicate that the highest strength values in samples occurred in environments with humidity levels between 60% and 80% and undergo a significant drop after that. 16Phlebotomus papatasi and Meriones libycus as the vector and reservoir host of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Qomrood District,Qom Province,central Iran显示文摘Objective:To determine the sand flies species responsible for most transmission of Leishmania major(L major) to human,as well as to determine the main reservoir hosts of the disease. Methods:Sand flies were collected using sticky papers and mounted in Puri’s medium for species identification.Rodents were trapped by live Sherman traps.Both sand flies and rodents were subjected to molecular methods for detection of leishmanial parasite.Results:Phlebotomus papatasi(P.papatasi) was the common species in outdoor and indoor resting places.Employing PCR technique only three specimens of 150 P.papatasi(2%) were found naturally infected by parasites with a band of 350 bp which is equal to the L major parasite.Forty six rodents were captured by Sherman traps and identified.Microscopic investigation on blood smear of the animals for amastigote parasites revealed 1(3.22%) infected Meriones libycus(M.libycus). Infection of this animal to L.major was confirmed by PCR against rDNA loci of the parasite. 18Reliability-based robust multi-obj ective optimization of a 5-DOF vehicle vibration model subjected to random road profiles显示文摘Ride and handling are two paramount factors in design and development of vehicle suspension systems.Conflicting trends in ride and handling characteristics propel engineers toward employing multi-objective optimization methods capable of providing the best trade-off designs compromising both criteria simultaneously.Although many studies have been performed on multi-objective optimization of vehicle suspension system,only a few of them have used probabilistic approaches considering effects of uncertainties in the design.However,it has been proved that optimum point obtained from deterministic optimization without taking into account the effects of uncertainties may lead to high-risk points instead of optimum ones.In this work,reliability-based robust multi-objective optimization of a 5 degree of freedom(5-DOF) vehicle suspension system is performed using method of non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-Ⅱ(NSGA-Ⅱ) in conjunction with Monte Carlo simulation(MCS) to obtain best designs considering both comfort and handling.Road profile is modeled as a random function using power spectral density(PSD) which is in better accordance with reality.To accommodate the robust approach,the variance of all objective functions is also considered to be minimized.Also,to take into account the reliability criterion,a reliability-based constraint is considered in the optimization.A deterministic optimization has also been performed to compare the results with probabilistic study and some other deterministic studies in the literature.In addition,sensitivity analysis has been performed to reveal the effects of different design variables on objective functions.To introduce the best trade-off points from the obtained Pareto fronts,TOPSIS method has been employed.Results show that optimum design point obtained from probabilistic optimization in this work provides better performance while demonstrating very good reliability and robustness.However,other optimum points from deterministic optimizations violate the regarded constraints in the presence of uncertainties.Abolfazl Khalkhali Morteza Sarmadi Sina Yousefi 2017Journal of Central South University2017,24,1:2
19Effect of Low-Pressure Nitrogen DC Plasma Treatment on the Surface Properties of Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene, Poly (Methyl Methacrylate) and Polyvinyl Chloride Films显示文摘In this study, commercial biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) films were treated with nitrogen plasma over different exposure times in a Pyrex tube surrounded by a DC variable magnetic field. The chemical changes that appeared on the surface of the samples were investigated using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR- FTIR) spectroscopy after treatment for 2 min, 4 min and 6 min in a nitrogen plasma chamber. Effects of the plasma treatment on the surface topographies and contact angles of the untreated and plasma treated films were also analyzed by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and a contact angle measuring system. The results show that the plasma treated films become more hydrophilic with an enhanced wettability due to the formation of some new polar groups on the surface of the treated films. Moreover, at higher exposure times, the total surface energy in all treated films increased while a reduction in contact angle occurred. 20Machine-learning driven global optimization of surface adsorbate geometries显示文摘The adsorption energies of molecular adsorbates on catalyst surfaces are key descriptors in computational catalysis research.For the relatively large reaction intermediates frequently encountered,e.g.,in syngas conversion,a multitude of possible binding motifs leads to complex potential energy surfaces(PES),however.This implies that finding the optimal structure is a difficult global optimization problem,which leads to significant uncertainty about the stability of many intermediates.To tackle this issue,we present a global optimization protocol for surface adsorbate geometries which trains a surrogate machine learning potential on-the-fly.The approach is applicable to arbitrary surface models and adsorbates and minimizes both human intervention and the number of required DFT calculations by iteratively updating the training set with configurations explored by the algorithm.We demonstrate the efficiency of this approach for a diverse set of adsorbates on the Rh(111)and(211)surfaces.Hyunwook Jung Lena Sauerland Sina Stocker Karsten Reuter Johannes T.Margraf 2023npj Computational Materials2023,,1:2
