| 1 | Acute Kidney Injury:Global Health Alert显示文摘Acute kidney injury(AKI) is increasingly prevalent in developing and developed countries and is associated with severe morbidity and mortality.Most etiologies of AKI can be prevented by interventions at the individual,community,regional and in-hospital levels.Effective measures must include community-wide efforts to increase an awareness of the devastating effects of AKI and provide guidance on preventive strategies,as well as early recognition and management.Efforts should be focused on minimizing causes of AKI,increasing awareness of the importance of serial measurements of serum creatinine in high risk patients,and documenting urine volume in acutely ill people to achieve early diagnosis;there is as yet no definitive role for alternative biomarkers.Protocols need to be developed to systematically manage prerenal conditions and specific infections.More accurate data about the true incidence and clinical impact of AKI will help to raise the importance of the disease in the community,increase awareness of AKI by governments,the public,general and family physicians and other health care professionals to help prevent the disease.Prevention is the key to avoid the heavy burden of mortality and morbidity associated with AKI. | Philip Kam Tao Li Emmanuel A Burdmann Ravindra L Mehta | 2013 | 肾脏病与透析肾移植杂志2013,22,1: | 14 |
| 2 | Contemporary role of multi-tract percutaneous nephrolithotomy in the treatment of complex renal calculi显示文摘Complex renal calculi remain to be a challenge for the treating urologist due to sheer bulk and the technicalities involved.Percutaneous nephrolithotomy(PCNL)remains the treatment modality of choice in dealing with these large and complex stones.The limiting factor in their treatment continues to be the need for using additional tracts or the use of flexible nephroscopy for complete stone clearance.This systematic review focuses on the need for multi-tract PCNL for complex renal calculi.The literature review was performed using PubMed database using the keywords“multiple tract PCNL”or“multiperc”.We identified original articles published on the usage of multiple tracts for stone clearance in renal calculi between January 2000 to October 2018,and the search was restricted to available literature in English language only.Ten studies with n>20 were included for the final analysis.We analyzed the technical efficacy with respect to the number of tracts and stages that were required for stone clearance,outcomes and complications,especially,procedural bleeding and post-procedure infective complications of multiple-tract PCNL for large burden renal stones.Multiperc is found to be safe,feasible and effective for the management of large burden complex renal calculi with respect to stone clearance and morbidity associated with the procedure.It is cost effective and complete stone clearance as a single procedure is higher in comparison to flexible ureteroscopy and shockwave lithotripsy. | Sudharsan Balaji Arvind Ganpule Thomas Herrmann Ravindra Sabnis Mahesh Desai | 2020 | Asian Journal of Urology2020,7,2: | 11 |
| 3 | Desulfurization of dibenzothiophene(DBT) by a novel strain Lysinibacillus sphaericus DMT-7 isolated from diesel contaminated soil显示文摘A new bacterial strain DMT-7 capable of selectively desulfurizing dibenzothiophene(DBT) was isolated from diesel contaminated soil.The DMT-7 was characterized and identified as Lysinibacillus sphaericus DMT-7(NCBI GenBank Accession No.GQ496620) using 16S rDNA gene sequence analysis.The desulfurized product of DBT,2-hydroxybiphenyl(2HBP),was identified and confirmed by high performance liquid chromatography analysis and gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy analysis respectively.The desulfurization kinetics revealed that DMT-7 started desulfurization of DBT into 2HBP after the lag phase of 24 hr,exponentially increasing the accumulation of 2HBP up to 15 days leading to approximately 60% desulfurization of the DBT.However,further growth resulted into DBT degradation.The induced culture of DMT-7 showed shorter lag phase of 6 hr and early onset of stationary phase within 10 days for desulfurization as compared to that of non-induced culture clearly indicating the inducibility of the desulfurization pathway of DMT-7.In addition,Lysinibacillus sphaericus DMT-7 also possess the ability to utilize broad range of substrates as sole source of sulfur such as benzothiophene,3,4-benzo DBT,4,6-dimethyl DBT,and 4,6-dibutyl DBT.Therefore,Lysinibacillus sphaericus DMT-7 could serve as model system for efficient biodesulfurization of diesel and petrol. | Ashutosh Bahuguna Madhuri K.Lily Ashok Munjal Ravindra N.Singh Koushalya Dangwal | 2011 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,6: | 8 |

| 9 | Mapping of dwarfing gene Rht14 in durum wheat and its effect on seedling vigor, internode length and plant height显示文摘Short coleoptiles associated with GA-insensitive Rht-1 alleles in wheat reduces yield due to poor seedling establishment under dry, or stubble-retained conditions. Hence there is a need for alternative dwarfing genes for wheat improvement programs. GA-sensitive dwarfing gene Rht14 confers semidwarf stature in wheat while retaining longer coleoptiles and early seedling vigor. Two RIL populations were used to identify the map position of Rht14 and to estimate its effect on plant height, coleoptile length, seedling shoot length,spike length and internode length. Rht14 on chromosome 6 A was mapped in the genomic region 383–422 Mbp flanked by GA2oxA9 and wmc753 in a Bijaga Yellow/Castelporziano RIL population. Recombination events between Rht14 and GA2oxA9 in the RIL population indicated that Rht14 might not be allelic to GA2oxA9. The conserved DNA sequence of GA2oxA9 and its flanking region in Castelporziano also suggested that the point of mutation responsible for the Rht14 allele must be a few Mbp away from GA2oxA9. The dwarfing effects of Rht14 on plant height, internode length and seedling vigor were compared with those of Rht-B1 b in an HI 8498/Castelporziano RIL population. Both genes significantly reduced plant height and internode length. Rht-B1 b conferred a significant reduction in coleoptile length and seedling shoot length, whereas Rht14 reduced plant height, but not coleoptile and seedling shoot length. | 16 | Primary hepatic amyloidosis:A case report and review ofliterature显示文摘We describe a case of 42-year-old female presenting with abdominal pain associated with loss of weight and fever for 8 mo. On evaluation she had gross hepatomegaly with raised alkaline phosphatase and raised GGT levels with normal transaminases and bilirubin. On imaging she had diffuse enlargement of liver with heterogeneous contrast uptake in liver. Her viral marker and autoimmune markers were negative. Liver biopsy depicted massive deposition of amyloid in peri-sinusoidal spaces which revealed apple green birefringence on polarizing microscopy after Congo red staining. Cardiac and renal evaluation was unremarkable. Abdominal fat pad and rectum biopsy was negative for amyloid deposit. There was no evidence of primary amyloidosis as bone marrow examination was normal. Serum and urine immunofixation electrophoresis were normal. Immunoperoxidase staining for serum amyloid associated protein for secondary amyloidosis was negative from liver biopsy. | 18 | Disaster Risk Reduction Including Climate Change Adaptation Over South Asia: Challenges and Ways Forward显示文摘South Asia is vulnerable to a variety of hydrometeorological hazards, which are often crossboundary in nature. Climate change is expected to influence many of these hazards. Thus, climate-related risks over South Asia make disaster risk reduction(DRR) and climate change adaptation(CCA) key policy goals.Recently there is an increasing consensus that DRR including CCA should be embedded in development planning. Disaster risk reduction including CCA has progressively gained importance in global governance. Across South Asia, however, such integration is only in a preliminary stage. This review was to assess the existing status and scope of DRR including CCA in development projects across South Asia, so that an effective and achievable deliberation may be made to regional policymakers. | 19 | Plasma cathepsin L:A prognostic marker for pancreatic cancer显示文摘AIM:To assess the prognostic significance of cathepsin L,a cysteine protease that degrades the peri-tumoral tissue,in patients with pancreatic cancer.METHODS:Plasma samples from 127 pancreatic cancer patients were analyzed for cathepsin L levels by ELISA.Out of these patients,25 underwent surgeryand their paraffin-embedded tissue was analyzed for cathepsin L expression by immunohistochemistry.Survival of patients and clinicopathological parameters was correlated with cathepsin L expression in plasma and tissue using appropriate statistical analysis.RESULTS:The mean(±SD)cathepsin L in plasma samples of pancreatic cancer patients was 5.98±2.5ng/m L that was significantly higher compared to the levels in healthy controls(3.83±0.45)or chronic pancreatitis patients(3.97±1.06).Using ROC curve,a cut-off level of 5.0 ng/m L was decided for survival analysis.Elevated plasma levels of cathepsin L were found to be associated with poor prognosis(P=0.01)in multivariate analysis.The plasma levels of the protease decreased after surgery.Though no significant correlation was seen between plasma and tissue expression of this protease,a trend did emerge that high cathepsin L expression in tissue correlated with its high levels in plasma.CONCLUSION:Cathepsin L levels in plasma of pancreatic cancer patients may be used as a potential prognostic marker for the disease. | Nidhi Singh Prasenjit Das Surabhi Gupta Vikas Sachdev Siddhartha Srivasatava Siddhartha Datta Gupta Ravindra Mohan Pandey Peush Sahni Shyam S Chauhan Anoop Saraya | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,46: | 2 |
| 20 | Revealing Genetic Relationship and Prospecting of Novel Donors Among Upland Rice Genotypes Using qDTY-Linked SSR Markers显示文摘A total of 17 simple sequence repeat(SSR) markers linked to QTLs(qDTYs) governing grain yield under reproductive stage(RS) drought stress were used to assess the genetic relationship and prospecting new donors for q DTYs among 32 popular upland rice genotypes. These SSR markers generated a total of 36 alleles with an average allele count of 2.1 per locus. Polymorphic information content value of the markers ranged from 0.376 to 0.662 with an average value of 0.484. The expected heterozyogosity ranged from 0.381 to 0.632. STRUCTURE analysis divided the 32 genotypes into three sub-populations. Subsequent phenotyping revealed that all the tolerant genotypes were grouped into one sub-population, whereas the moderately tolerant and susceptible genotypes were grouped into separate sub-populations. Phylogenetic tree constructed by the unweighted neighbour-joining method also divided the genotypes into three clusters. The grouping pattern of genotypes into the clusters was similar to that into the STRUCTURE analysis, on the basis of drought tolerance level. The average value of genetic dissimilarity coefficient among the genotypes was observed to be 0.486.
