1Anti-fungal and anti-bacterial activities of ethanol extracts of selected traditional Chinese medicinal herbs显示文摘Objective:To evaluate in ritro antimicrobial activities of selected 58 ethno-medicinal plant extracts with a view to assess their therapeutic potential.Methods:A total of 58 traditional Chinese medicinal plants were carefully selected based on the literature review and their traditional use.The antimicrobial activities of ethanol extracts of these medicinal plants were tested against fungi(Aspergillus funigaius),yeast(Candida albicans),gram-negative(Acirelobacter haumannii and Pseudornnruis aeruginosa)and gram-positive bacteria(Staphglococcus aureus).The activities were tested at three different concentrations of 1.00,0.10 and 0.01 mg/mL.The data was analysed using Gene data Screener program.Results:The measured antimicrobial activities indicated that out of the 58 plant extracts,15 extracts showed anti-fungal activity and 23 extracts exhibited anti-bacterial activity.Eight plant extracts have exhibited both anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activities.For instance,Eucommia ulmoides,Pohgonum cuspidcrtum,Poria cocas and Uncaria rhineophylla showed activity against both bacterial and fungal strains,indicating their broad spectrum of activity.Conclusions:The results revealed that the ethanol extracts of 30 plants out of the selected 58 possess significant antimicrobial activities.It is interesting to note that the findings from the current study are consistent with the traditional use.A clear correlation has also been found between the antimicrobial activity and the flavonoid content of the plant extracts which is in agreement with the literature.Hence.the results presented here can be used to guide the selection of potential plant species for the isolation and structure elucidation of novel antimicrobial compounds in order to establish the structure-activity relationship.This in turn is expected to lead the way to the discovery of novel antimicrobial agents for therapeutic use.Lin Zhang Anjaneya S.Ravipati Sundar R Koyyalamudi Sang Chul Jeong Narsimha Reddy John Bartlett Paul T.Smith Mercedes de la Cruz Maria Cndida Monteiro ngeles Melguizo Ester Jimnez Francisca Vicente 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2013,6,9:23

7Diagnostic and therapeutic challenges of gastrointestinal angiodysplasias: A critical review and view points显示文摘Gastrointestinal angiodysplasias (GIADs), also called angioectasias, are the most frequent vascular lesions. Its precise prevalence is unknown since most of them are asymptomatic. However, the incidence may be increasing since GIADs affect individuals aged more than 60 years and population life expectancy is globally increasing worldwide. They are responsible of about 5% to 10% of all gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) cases. Most GIADs are placed in small bowel, where are the cause of 50 to 60% of obscure GIB diagnosed with video capsule endoscopy. They may be the cause of fatal severe bleeding episodes;nevertheless, recurrent overt or occult bleeding episodes requiring repeated expensive treatments and disturbing patient’s quality-of-life are more frequently observed. Diagnosis and treatment of GIADs (particularly those placed in small bowel) are a great challenge due to insidious disease behavior, inaccessibility to affected sites and limitations of available diagnostic procedures. Hemorrhagic causality out of the actively bleeding lesions detected by diagnostic procedures may be difficult to establish. No treatment guidelines are currently available, so there is a high variability in the management of these patients. In this review, the epidemiology and pathophysiology of GIADs and the status in the diagnosis and treatment, with special emphasis on small bowel angiodysplasias based on multiple publications, are critically discussed. In addition, a classification of GIADs based on their endoscopic characteristics is proposed. 8建立初级卒中中心的修订和更新意见来自脑卒中联盟的总结声明显示文摘背景和目的自从2000年脑卒中联盟发布首份关于建立初级卒中中心的推荐意见以来,初级卒中中心的组建和认证工作已出现迅速发展。本文的目的在于修订和更新我们关于初级卒中中心的推荐意见以反映最新资料和经验。方法我们使用MEDLINE和PubMed数据库回顾了相关文献(2000年3月至2011年1月),主要针对急性卒中的诊断、治疗和护理。如果发现有效且相关,同样对原始文献、汇总分析和其他治疗指南进行回顾并纳入分析。标明证据等级以反映当前指南发展的实际情况。结果基于文献回顾以及针对初级卒中中心的经验,一些要素的重要性已得到进一步的加强,同时增加了几个新的领域。这些内容包括:(1)急诊卒中团队的重要性;(2)配备遥测监控的卒中单元的重要性;(3)MRj和弥散加权序列进行脑成像的实施;(4)用磁共振血管成像或CT血管成像对脑血管系统进行评价;(5)心脏影像学检查;(6)康复治疗的早期启动;(7)由独立机构进行的认证,包括实地考察和疾病评价指标。结论基于上述证据,初级卒中中心的某些要素对于改善急性卒中患者的诊治特别重要。其他要素则集中于脑、脑血管系统和心脏的影像学检查。这些新的要素也许能改善在初级卒中中心接受诊治的卒中患者的治疗和转归。Mark J.
