1Anthropogenic emission inventories in China:a review显示文摘The development of reliable anthropogenic emission inventories is essential for both understanding the sources of air pollution and designing effective air-pollution-control measures in China. However, it is challenging to quantify emissions in China accurately, given the variety of contributing sources, the complexity of the technology mix and the lack of reliable measurements. Over the last two decades,tremendous efforts have been made to improve the accuracy of emission inventories, and significant improvements have been realized. More reliable statistics and survey-based data have been used to reduce the uncertainties in activity rates and technology distributions. Local emission factors and source profiles covering various sources have been measured and reported. Based on these local databases, improved emission inventory models have been developed for power plants, large industrial plants and the residential,transportation and agricultural sectors. In this paper, we review the progress that has been made in developing inventories of anthropogenic emissions in China. We first highlight the major updates that have been made to emission inventory models and the underlying data by source category. We then summarize the sector-based estimates of emissions of different species contained in current inventories. The progress that has been made in the development of model-ready emissions is also presented. 3Air pollution characteristics and their relationship with emissions and meteorology in the Yangtze River Delta region during 2014–2016显示文摘With rapid economic growth and urbanization, the Yangtze River Delta(YRD) region in China has experienced serious air pollution challenges. In this study, we analyzed the air pollution characteristics and their relationship with emissions and meteorology in the YRD region during 2014–2016. In recent years, the concentrations of all air pollutants, except O3,decreased. Spatially, the PM2.5, PM10, SO2, and CO concentrations were higher in the northern YRD region, and NO2 and O3 were higher in the central YRD region. Based on the number of non-attainment days(i.e., days with air quality index greater than 100), PM2.5 was the largest contributor to air pollution in the YRD region, followed by O3, PM10, and NO2.However, particulate matter pollution has declined gradually, while O3 pollution worsened.Meteorological conditions mainly influenced day-to-day variations in pollutant concentrations. PM2.5 concentration was inversely related to wind speed, while O3 concentration was positively correlated with temperature and negatively correlated with relative humidity.The air quality improvement in recent years was mainly attributed to emission reductions.During 2014–2016, PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NOx, CO, NH3, and volatile organic compound(VOC)emissions in the YRD region were reduced by 26.3%, 29.2%, 32.4%, 8.1%, 15.9%, 4.5%, and0.3%, respectively. Regional transport also contributed to the air pollution. During regional haze periods, pollutants from North China and East China aggravated the pollution in the YRD region. 4Pathways of China's PM;air quality 2015–2060 in the context of carbon neutrality显示文摘Clean air policies in China have substantially reduced particulate matter(PM;) air pollution in recent years,primarily by curbing end-of-pipe emissions.However,reaching the level of the World Health Organization(WHO) guidelines may instead depend upon the air quality co-benefits of ambitious climate action.Here,we assess pathways of Chinese PM;air quality from 2015 to 2060 under a combination of scenarios that link global and Chinese climate mitigation pathways(i.e.global 2℃-and 1.5℃-pathways,National Determined Contributions(NDC) pledges and carbon neutrality goals) to local clean air policies.We find that China can achieve both its near-term climate goals(peak emissions) and PM;air quality annual standard(35 μg/m;) by 2030 by fulfilling its NDC pledges and continuing air pollution control policies.However,the benefits of end-of-pipe control reductions are mostly exhausted by 2030,and reducing PM;exposure of the majority of the Chinese population to below 10 μg/m;by 2060 will likely require more ambitious climate mitigation efforts such as China’ s carbon neutrality goals and global1.5℃-pathways.Our results thus highlight that China’s carbon neutrality goals will play a critical role in reducing air pollution exposure to the level of the WHO guidelines and protecting public health.Jing Cheng Dan Tong Qiang Zhang Yang Liu Yu Lei Gang Yan Liu Yan Sha Yu Ryna Yiyun Cui Leon Clarke Guannan Geng Bo Zheng Xiaoye Zhang Steven JDavis Kebin He 2021National Science Review2021,8,12:23
5Rapid improvement of PM2.5 pollution and associated health benefits in China during 2013–2017显示文摘Exposure to fine particulate matter(PM2.5)is known to harm public health.In China,after implementation of aggressive emissions control measures under the Action Plan of Air Pollution Prevention and Control(2013-2017),air quality has significantly improved.In this work,we investigated changes in PM2.5 exposure and the associated health impacts in China for the period 2013-2017.We used an optimal estimator of PM2.5 combining in-situ observations,satellite measurements,and simulations from a chemical transport model to derive the spatial and temporal variations in PM2.5 exposure,and then used welldeveloped exposure-response functions to estimate the premature deaths attributable to PM2.5 exposure.We found that national population-weighed annual mean PM2.5 concentrations decreased from 67.4μgm-3 in 2013 to 45.5μgm-3 in 2017(32%reduction).This rapid decrease in PM2.5 pollution led to a 14%reduction in premature deaths due to long-term exposure.We estimated that,during 2013-2017,the premature deaths attributable to long-term PM2.5 exposure decreased from 1.2 million(95%CI:1.0,1.3;fraction of total mortality:13%)in 2013 to 1.0 million(95%CI:0.9,1.2;10%)in 2017.Despite the rapid decrease in annual mean PM2.5 concentrations,health benefits associated with reduced long-term exposure were limited,because for many cities,the PM2.5 levels remain at the portion where the exposure-response function is less steeper than that at the lowconcentration end.We also found that the deaths associated with acute exposure decreased by 61%during 2013-2017 due to rapid reduction in the number of heavily polluted days.Our results confirm that clean air policies in China have mitigated the air pollution crisis;however,continuous emissions reduction efforts are required to protect citizens from air pollution.Tao XUE Jun LIU Qiang ZHANG Guannan GENG Yixuan ZHENG Dan TONG Zhu LIU Dabo GUAN Yu BO Tong ZHU Kebin HE Jiming HAO 2019Science China Earth Sciences2019,62,12:17
6Impact of China’s Air Pollution Prevention and Control Action Plan on PM2.5 chemical composition over eastern China显示文摘China promulgated the Air Pollution Prevention and Control Action Plan(the Action Plan)in 2013 and developed stringent control measures to mitigate fine particulate matter(PM2.5) pollution.Here,we investigated the PM2.5 chemical composition changes over eastern China associated with the Action Plan during 2013-2017 using satellite-based PM2.5 chemical composition data derived using CMAQ simulations and satellite inputs.The PM2.5 concentrations decreased considerably during this time as a result of the reductions in all chemical species in PM2.5.The population-weighted mean concentrations over eastern China decreased from 11.1 to 6.7μgm-3 for SO42-,13.8-13.1μgm-3 for NO3-,7.4-5.8μgm-3 for NH4+,9.9-8.4μgm-3 for OM,4.6-3.8μg m-3 for BC and 12.9-9.6μg m-3 for other species in PM2.5.SO42-had the largest reduction of 40%,while NO3-had the lowest reduction of 5%,resulting in a greater fraction of NO3-and a smaller fraction of SO42-in PM2.5.Among the three key regions,Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei had the largest reduction in PM2.5 and its chemical compositions.The decrease in SO42-concentrations was in line with the reduction of SO2 emissions,and the major driver of the SO2 emission reductions was the industrial sector.The decrease in NO3 concentrations was limited because the decrease in SO2 emissions and the stable NH3 emissions facilitated the formation of NO3-from HNO3,which partially offset the reduction in NOx emissions driven by the power sector.To mitigate PM2.5 pollution more effectively,future efforts are needed to reduce NH3 emissions.Guannan GENG Qingyang XIAO Yixuan ZHENG Dan TONG Yuxuan ZHANG Xiaoye ZHANG Qiang ZHANG Kebin HE Yang LIU 2019Science China Earth Sciences2019,62,12:16
7DAZL is a master translational regulator of murine spermatogenesis显示文摘Expression of DAZ-like(DAZL)is a hallmark of vertebrate germ cells,and is essential for embryonic germ cell development and differentiation,yet the gametogenic function of DAZL has not been fully characterized and most of its in vivo direct targets remain unknown.We showed that postnatal stage-specific deletion of Dazl in mouse germ cells did not affect female fertility,but caused complete male sterility with gradual loss of spermatogonial stem cells,meiotic arrest and spermatid arrest.Using the genome-wide high-throughput sequencing of RNAs isolated by cross-linking immunoprecipitation and mass spectrometry approach,we found that DAZL bound to a large number of testicular mRNA transcripts(at least 3008)at the 3′-untranslated region and interacted with translation proteins including poly(A)binding protein.In the absence of DAZL,polysome-associated target transcripts,but not their total transcripts,were significantly decreased,resulting in a drastic reduction of an array of spermatogenic proteins and thus developmental arrest.Thus,DAZL is a master translational regulator essential for spermatogenesis.Haixin Li Zhuqing Liang Jian Yang Dan Wang Hanben Wang Mengyi Zhu Baobao Geng Eugene Yujun Xu 2019National Science Review2019,6,3:11
8Modified citrus pectin inhibited bladder tumor growth through downregulation of galectin-3显示文摘Modiled citrus pectin (MCP) is a carbohydrate enriched complex, which has been implicated in cancer treatment and prevention. However, the effects of MCP on urinary bladder cancer (UBC) are unknown. In this study, MCP was first tested in T24 and J82 human UBC cells and showed the inhibition of cell viability by the sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay. The MCP-treated UBC cells exhibited G2/M phase arrest with the decrease of Cyclin B1 and phosphorylated Cdc2. Caspase-3 was also activated, leading to the cleavage of Caspase-3 and PARP. We further explored the possible molecular mechanisms upon MCP treatment in UBC cells. Reduction of galectin-3 was observed and followed with the inactivation of Akt signaling pathway. Of note, galectin-3 knockdown by RNA interference recapitulated the MCP-mediated anti-proliferation, cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Moreover, oral administration of MCP to the T24 xenograft-bearing nude mice inhibited the tumor growth significantly (P<0.05). Quantification analysis of immunohistochemistry staining for Ki67 and cleaved Caspase-3 confirmed the decrease of proliferation index (P<0.05) and the increase of apoptosis index (P<0.01) in 700 mg/kg MCP-fed UBC xenografts. Using the information from TCGA database, we revealed that the overexpression of galectin-3 was associated with high tumor grade with lymph node metastasis, poor overall survival in UBC patients. 10Inhibition effect of magnetic field on nitrous oxide emission from sequencing batch reactor treating domestic wastewater at low temperature显示文摘This study aims to investigate the effect of a magnetic field on nitrous oxide(N2O)emission from a sequencing batch reactor treating low-strength domestic wastewater at low temperature(10℃).After running for 124 days in parallel,results indicated that the conversion rate of N2O for a magnetic field-sequencing batch reactor(MF-SBR)decreased by34.3%compared to that of a conventional SBR(C-SBR).Meanwhile,the removal efficiencies for total nitrogen(TN)and ammonia nitrogen(NH4-N)of the MF-SBR were 22.4%and 39.5%higher than those of the C-SBR.High-throughput sequencing revealed that the abundances of AOB(Nitrosomonas),NOB(Nitrospira)and denitrifiers(Zoogloea),which could reduce N2O to N2,were promoted significantly in the MF-SBR.Enzyme activities(Nir)and gene abundances(nos Z nir S and nir K)for denitrification in the MF-SBR were also notably higher compared to C-SBR.Our study shows that application of a magnetic field is a useful approach for inhibiting the generation of N2O and promoting the nitrogen removal efficiency by affecting the microbial characteristics of sludge in an SBR treating domestic wastewater at low temperature.Dan Xu Hongmin Ji Hongqiang Ren Jinju Geng Kan Li Ke Xu 2020Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,1:7

13High-density SNP genetic linkage map construction and quantitative trait locus mapping for resistance to cucumber mosaic virus in tobacco(Nicotiana tabacum L.)显示文摘Genetic linkage maps are essential for studies of genetics, genomic structure, and genomic evolution, and for mapping quantitative trait loci (QTL). Identification of molecular markers and construction of genetic linkage maps in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.), a classical model plant and important economic crop, have remained limited. In the present study we identified a large number of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers and constructed a high-density SNP genetic map for tobacco using restriction site-associated DNA sequencing. In 1216.30 Gb of clean sequence obtained using the Illumina HiSeq 2000 sequencing platform, 99,647,735 SNPs were identified that differed between 203 sequenced plant genomes and the tobacco reference genome. Finally, 13,273 SNP markers were mapped on 24 high-density tobacco genetic linkage groups. The entire linkage map spanned 3421.80 cM, with a mean distance of 0.26 cM between adjacent markers. Compared with genetic linkage maps published previously, this version represents a considerable improvement in the number and density of markers. Seven QTL for resistance to cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) in tobacco were mapped to groups 5 and 8. 15Preparation and Degradation Phenol Characterization of Ti/SnO_2-Sb-Mo Electrode Doped with Different Contents of Molybdenum显示文摘The Ti/SnO_2-Sb-Mo electrodes doped with different molar ratios of molybdenum(Mo) were prepared by sol—gel method in order to investigate the effect of Mo on the characterization of Ti/SnO_2-Sb—Mo electrodes.X-ray diffraction(XRD),field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM),energy dispersive spectrometry(EDS),and linear scanning voltammetry(LSV) were used to scrutinize the coating material and the electrochemical activity.The concentration of phenol,the value of total organic carbon(TOC),the mineralization current efficiency(MCE) and the ultraviolet—visible spectroscopy(UV-Vis) spectrum of phenol solution were measured over the electrochemical degradation process of phenol to confirm the phenol degradation characterization of Ti/SnO_2-Sb-Mo electrodes.Results showed that the electrode at the Mo content of 1 at.%provided optimal catalytic activity for phenol degradation and the longest life time.The removal percentage of phenol and TOC were 99.62%and82.67%,respectively.The Ti/SnO_2-Sb-Mo electrode with 1 at.%of Mo reached maximum MCE of phenol oxidation.The kinetic investigation of phenol and TOC degradation displayed the pseudo-first order reaction model.The Ti/SnO_2-Sb-Mo electrode coating with 7 at.%Mo presented the highest oxygen evolution overpotential,indicating the diverse effects for different Mo molar ratio doping.Jiyan Liang Cong Geng Dan Li Li Cui Xin Wang 2015Journal of Materials Science & Technology2015,31,5:2
16Comparison on the phytoextraction efficiency of Bidens pilosa at heavy metal contaminated site in natural and electrokinetic conditions显示文摘The plant samples of Bidens pilosa were collected from a coal gangue vacant site and its surrounding area,located in central China,to study the remediation effect of the plant species on heavy metal(HM)contamination in both natural and electrokinetic(EK)conditions.The analytical results showed that the effect of phytoextraction and bioconcentration on the heavy metals in the sample of the EK group is more significant than those in the other control group.Compared with the results of natural condition,under the EK condition the concentrations of cadmium(Cd),lead(Pb),copper(Cu)and zinc(Zn)in the stems and leaves of the Bidens pilosa increased to 0.40 mg/kg,4.23 mg/kg,7.27 mg/kg,830.24 mg/kg,respectively,with their increments of 292%,1731%,141%,2076%.For root samples,the Cd,Pb,Cu and Zn concentrations increased to 0.52 mg/kg,4.36 mg/kg,10.87 mg/kg,and 98.12 mg/kg and the increase rates were 1034%,140%,29%,and 181%,respectively.The phytoextraction efficiency of the Bidens pilosa was significantly higher than that of control group.The removal efficiency of Cd,Pb,Cu and Zn in soil increased to 26%,72%,27%,and 79%with the EK applied.In addition,the mechanism of HM migration,extraction and enrichment in Bidens pilosa under the EK condition was discussed.Yue-nan Li Yan-sheng Gu Man-zhou Li Guang-jie Huo Xi-ping Wang Zhi-jie Xu Jie Yue Dan Du Man-ge Geng 2021Journal of Groundwater Science and Engineering2021,9,2:1
