| 3 | Treatment method of hazardous pickling sludge by reusing as glass–ceramics nucleation agent显示文摘Heavy metal containing pickling sludge(PS) is one of the by-products of the stainless-steel-making industry,which has been considered hazardous due to contained chromium and nickel.Traditional methods of PS disposing are landfill and cement solidification.This research is aimed at disposing PS by solidification/stabilization and reusing it as a nucleation agent of glass–ceramics.The crystallization behavior and the properties of a glass in the CaO–MgO–SiO_2–Al_2O_3 system were studied by considering PS as the nucleation agent.Experimental results confirm that introducing 14 wt% PS as the nucleation agent of glass–ceramics can decrease crystallization temperature by 110.8 °C,refine the grain size by forming isometric crystals with size of 2 lm,enhance Vickers hardness by 2690 MPa and decrease water absorption from(1.21 ± 0.10) wt% to(0.04 ± 0.01) wt%.Therefore,it is reasonable to conclude that PS can be utilized as a nucleation agent to improve the crystallization and mechanical properties of the glass–ceramics.The testing results of US EPA toxicity characteristic leaching procedure(TCLP)confirm the safety of this reusing method. | Jian Yang Shen-Gen Zhang De-An Pan Bo Liu Chun-Li Wu Alex A.Volinsky | 2016 | Rare Metals2016,35,3: | 6 |
| 4 | Glycolysis in the control of blood glucose homeostasis显示文摘Glycolysis,a simple pathway of glucose metabolism,critically regulates insulin secretion and metabolic functions of various cells.Depending on cell types,rates of glycolysis are determined at various steps of glycolysis that are subjected to the control of key metabolic and regulatory enzyme(S),which include glucokinase,6-phosphofructo-I-kinase,and 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-bisphosphatase.These enzymes are regulated by both nutritional and hormonal signals at the levels of transcription,translation,and post-translational modifications.In hepatocytes,glycolysis is involved in the control of hepatic glucose production.The latter,when excessive,contributes to hyperglycemia in diabetes.In pancreatic β cells,glycolysis couples glucose-stimulated insulin secretion.Absolute or relatively low levels of circulating insulin causes hyperglycemia.In adipocytes,glycolysis generates metabolites for lipogenesis and channels fatty acids from excessive oxidation to triglyceride synthesis,thereby reducing oxidative stress.With increased proinflammatory status,adipocytes produce pro-hyperglycemic factors and bring about hyperglycemia and insulin resistance.In hypotha lamic neurons,glycolysis conveys nutrient sensing that is related to feeding control.Dysregulation of glycolysis occurs in conditions of insulin deficiency or resistance,and is attributable to inappropriate amount and/or activities of metabolic and regulatory enzymes of glycolysis.Targeting key metabolic and regulatory enzymes to enhance glycolysis may offer viable approaches for treatment of diabetes. | Xin Guo Honggui Li Hang Xu Shihlung Woo Hui Dong Fuer Lu Alex J.Lange Chaodong Wu | 2012 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2012,2,4: | 3 |

| 7 | Enhancing IoT anomaly detection performance for federated learning显示文摘Federated Learning (FL) with mobile computing and the Internet of Things (IoT) is an effective cooperative learning approach. However, several technical challenges still need to be addressed. For instance, dividing the training process among several devices may impact the performance of Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, often significantly degrading prediction accuracy compared to centralized learning. One of the primary reasons for such performance degradation is that each device can access only a small fraction of data (that it generates), which limits the efficacy of the local ML model constructed on that device. The performance degradation could be exacerbated when the participating devices produce different classes of events, which is known as the class balance problem. Moreover, if the participating devices are of different types, each device may never observe the same types of events, which leads to the device heterogeneity problem. In this study, we investigate how data augmentation can be applied to address these challenges and improving detection performance in an anomaly detection task using IoT datasets. Our extensive experimental results with three publicly accessible IoT datasets show the performance improvement of up to 22.9% with the approach of data augmentation, compared to the baseline (without relying on data augmentation). | 18 | Beyond fundamental resonance mode:high-order multi-band ALN PMUT for in vivo photoacoustic imaging显示文摘This paper reports on an aluminum nitride(AlN)piezoelectric micromachined ultrasound transducer(PMUT)array for photoacoustic(PA)imaging,where the high-order resonance modes of the PMUT are utilized to improve imaging resolution.A flexural vibration mode(FVM)PMUT is fabricated and applied in a photoacoustic imaging(PAI)system.Specifically,the microelectromechanical system(MEMS)-based PMUT is suitable for PA endoscopic imaging of blood vessels and bronchi due to its miniature size and high sensitivity.More importantly,AlN is a nontoxic material,which makes it harmless for biomedical applications.In the PAI system,the AlN PMUT array is used to detect PA signals,and the acousto–mechanical response is designed and optimized at the PMUT’s fundamental resonance.In this work,we focus on the high-order resonance performance of the PMUT PAI beyond the fundamental resonance.The acoustic and electrical responses of the PMUT’s high-order resonance modes are characterized and analyzed.The fundamental and three high-order resonance bandwidths are 2.2,8.8,18.5,and 48.2 kHz.Compared with the resolution at the fundamental resonance mode,the resolutions at third-and fourth-order resonance modes increase by 38.7%and 76.9%in a phantom experiment.The high-order resonance modes of the AlN PMUT sensor array provide higher central frequency and wider bandwidth for PA signal detection,which increase the resolution of PAI compared to the PMUT working at the fundamental resonance mode. | Junxiang Cai Yiyun Wang Daohuai Jiang Songsong Zhang Yuandong Alex Gu Liang Lou Fei Gao Tao Wu | 2022 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2022,8,6: | 1 |
